First interview is normally by a HR officer who assess your general skills, personality among hundreds of other interviewees.
If you passes the first test (you are more qualifies than the 99 other people who came for interview), you will be called to meet your higher authority, such as your head of department or supervisor. If he/she likes your personality, you will get the job.
Sometimes second interview is called also because they had trimmed the applicants down to a few selected ones and the company would like to have a second chance to see which of the selected ones are more suitable for the job.

Look at it this way, you are better than the other applicant that interviewed for the same position.

^ Yeap. Sometimes they want to know you more in terms of characteristic, and technical knowledge (if applicable).

OR

To discuss about contract and stuff like that.

Yes, you will be asked some "deeply" question such as : Salary issue.
Get prepared before you go.

It depends on how long is your first session.

If your first session is short and asked about yourself, then second interview will ask more ... perhaps your skills and etc.

Yes, maintain an open mind for the second interview. Do not be overjoyed but keep your feet firm on the ground. If you have been impressive for your first interview, prepare yourself to be MORE impressive in your second. Also start preparing for your salary negotiation, which may be conducted during the second. But you should already know what you are willing to settle for when you apply.

Depend on the company interview level.
Some is 2 level where 2nd interview will be a salary discussion or offer you the job. While some is 3 level such as what they said. First interview is HR, then 2nd will be those higher management level. Then only decide to hire you or not.

2nd interview mean HIGHER chances of getting the job. biggrin.gif
GOOD LUCK!!!!

AGREE. I attend 4 interviews to get my current job. More interviews mean the job needs quality personnel and the pay will slightly higher compared to the standard market rate.
