About the hype on Sterling. No doubt the kid got lots of potential & pace and has been chipping in some important goals for team, but lest not we forget, most of the goals are tap ins and largely engineered by the other players. Not saying tap ins are no good but I have yet to see a goal created purely by his individual brilliance, worthy of such a degree of hype.
Lets dissect the goals scored by him yesterday. (Correct me if Im wrong , this is the first time in a match where Sterling managed to score 2 goals?)
First goal was an instinctive strike, another tap in. Could have let the ball pass and let Sturridge have it but his instincts told him to take the shot. Glad that went in. Sturridge would have tear him up to shreds if he missed out that one.
His second goal was a wee bit lucky; he got a clear shot on goal with only the keeper to beat, but his first attempt was weak and saved. Fortunately the ball rebounded back to his feet and he scored in the second attempt. What I felt he should have done in the first place is lay the ball to the unmarked Sturridge. That would have been the correct call.
Having said that, I hope the kid will continue to improve on skills, keep the scoring streak and make the correct crucial decisions on the field. He can outrun and dribble past defenders but hardly produce anything threatening at the end of his runs.
This is just the impetus we need to charge for top 4 spot and we need to SUSTAIN and BUILD on this form.
He still have a lot to improve regarding his finishing. But in term of beating defenders/his marker... he is up there among the best in EPL. And watching his attempt to score late on the match, that was some scary speed he has accelerating easily pass defender.Lets dissect the goals scored by him yesterday.
