I am currently paying about RM110 per month to Astro with old beyond PVR box(the one with HDD).
I am on the process to go Legal Android box, I am thinking or in-the-process to cancel entire Astro.

But I giving Astro a chance to save itself, if I can downgrade using my same box only to watch AEC & CH 333 (I dont mind paying these 2 channels with low very monthly fees, I can sub for long term). I just dont wan to pay RM270+ on a new box, and I find RM99 conversion fee ridiculous too high with no hardware change.
Otherwise I think Astro can F themselves and get a RM0 from me.

So guys what are my options?

without comparing availability of the channels,
RM99/once vs RM270/once vs RM110/mth does not seem like a difficult decision to fuss over

It is obvious, out of Astro totally.

I honestly dont get why they wanna scam RM99 for flipping a switch.

they could have just tell me to sign up a couple of paid NJOI a few months as contract. If I have to pay RM99 + paying again for AEC/CH333 they might as well dont bother.

Astro: need to return everything back. decoder, dish, smartcard.

Njoi: the equipment is yours. decoder, dish, smartcard.

I don't see RM99/once for Astro to quit their claim on the equipment as too much. You can orherwise spend RM270/once to get completely new equipment.

CODE
2.1.6 Subject to Clause 8 below, if the Services are discontinued or terminated at any time for any reason whatsoever either by the Customer or Astro, the Customer shall allow Astro and/or its authorised agents to retrieve the Reception Equipment from the Customer’s premises, failing which Astro reserves the right to charge and the Customer shall be liable to pay Astro the cost of the Reception Equipment.

The Customer shall return and surrender the Reception Equipment to Astro in the same condition it was when it was initially provided to the Customer, fair wear and tear excepted, failure of which shall result in the Customer being liable to pay Astro the cost of the Reception Equipment.

If the Customer wishes to re-subscribe to the Services following termination, any Reception Equipment not returned by the Customer at the time of termination may not be authorised by Astro for use in respect of the new subscription.

you mean they are not using my same box & dish to view NJOI?
*
regardless if they'll leave you with your existing ex-Astro-turned-njoi box or they'll replace your box, RM99/once to keep it forever is better than RM270/once, right? You end up getting the same njoi service anyway.

--

End of October, I went to Astro Service Centre.
I told CS i want to terminate one of my box, later to install njoi.
Not the exact words, but basically she said "don't need to go round about it; can just pay RMxx/once to switch astro/monthly into njoi/once. Can continue using the box. When rosak later, then only encik buy new njoi to replace."

No, i did not end up switch permanent to njoi.
She enticed me to switch to last-promotion-day for ultra-low, basic RM20-ish/mth (discounts after discounts) than quitting altogether.

ok let me try to understand.

In other word I went from renting the box to owning the box with RM99. The box isnt mine to begin with, this isnt the same as TM unifi broadband where after we subbed for x years of contract we own the box.
*
.... errr, yes, like you said.
renting-forever vs owning-forever.
also read @joshhd's response right above your post.

Astro owns the equipments, you pay subscription to rent it. They have right to take it away or penalise you if you refused to return their equipments.
If you pay them RM99/once, the equipments will become yours for eternity. Astro won't come back demanding return.
When now-yours ex-Astro equipment broke, you buy new set of equipment.

Or you can terminate and let Astro took their existing equipment away.
Then you spend RM270/once to OWN fresh equipment.
When it's broken, you buy new set of equipment.

to use njoi, you need to buy and own the equipment.
it's no longer "rental" where Astro comes to replace when it breaks.
when njoi breaks down the years, you are to buy anew.

you choose:

RM270/everytime to (re)purchase and install fresh set of equipment.

or

RM99/once initially to purchase over current set of equipment, no installation fee; and later, RM270/everytime to (re)purchase and install fresh set of equipment.

If astro the device rosak, Can pay one time and enjoy whole life? Which option cheaper?
*
one-time fee is for you to own the hardware with 1yr warranty. if rosak, then it's your own responsibility to claim warranty or to fix on your own or to replace altogether.

it's your choice whether to install fresh njoi-labelled hardware, OR, to ask ASTRO (the company) to let you go and convert pre-existing ASTRO hardware into njoi hardware.

(you pay one-off for a vehicle and expect manufacturer to keep replacing it until you die? are you confused with car-as-a-subscription?)

I tot the 1 year warranty is only for RM270 option. RM99 option dont offer warranty, you convert today, next month rosak it is your fault.

circa last week of october 2021, right before ASTRO flipped finger to all of us customers on 9th november 2021.

when i wanted to terminate parent's ASTRO sub to replace with nJoi, the ASTRO cust care stopped me and say can convert w/ one-time fee instead of remove hardware (dish, decoder) only to have similar nJoi-branded hardware reinstalled again. RM99 vs RM270(?) sounds a bargain to nJoi, right?

if - IF - I recall correctly, there was mention of 1yr warranty even if convert.

in the end i didn't proceed, because the cust care offered me downgrade to 2yr of ~RM33/mth starter pack after RM30/mth discount. just nice, supposedly it was last day of the promotion. I'll review the decision whether to keep sticking depending on what ASTRO can offer later.

sure or not? I wanna save money...

I cant port out from Astro because got 1-2 channel is my mom favourite. think to go NJOI.

Call ASTRO. Ask them. I'm almost certain the custcare did mention 1yr warranty if switch from subscription, but that conversation happened last October and I didn't exactly jot it down back then in preparation for today's conversation....

njoi was touted to be non-subscription satellite tv service.

while i can understand offering additional paid content outside of FTA channel list, moving what is originally an FTA channel to become payable is bad. And I restraining myself from using more illustrious words.

Then why are you still using NJOI, knowing that it is rubbish?

Why not throw the box away?

I am thinking of going for njoi to replace ASTRO's exhorbitant pricing. But now even njoi goes payable route. *sigh* Probably have to go mytv route instead.

Moonbug Kids now available on NJOI (need purchase Kids Pack Baharu first)

end up with no difference between ASTRO monthly subscription and nJoi "only installation fee".

another government initiative gone to the dogs because pf corporate greed.

revenue base increased, yet ASTRO keep milking ASTRO customer base for more.

Guys, anyone know what is this error message about?

Background: this is nJoi decoder installed at in-laws.
Either it was switched off for far too long, OR, somebody had swapped the card. I didn't personally inspect the decoder+smartcard.
