Hi to all Symbian gurus,

I really need expert advice and help here. My 1 week-old X6 is having some problems, and it's sort of frustrating doh.gif
In the beginning the hp dealer installed Garmin XT. Later, I downloaded Opera Mini (through OVI store).

Condition: Phone with both Garmin XT and Opera Mini installed.
The main issue is the infamous white screen of death (WSOD). After I turned the phone off, I couldn't turn it on again. After searching some info in forum, I tried the charger and hard reset trick, and my phone was saved (temporarily). Both Garmin and Opera Mini were lost. However, the songs were still inside.

I read around, saying that most of the time Garmin XT is the 'culprit' of WSOD, so I decided to not install that, and just go on with the Opera Mini. So far so good (can be turned on and off properly). I installed Skype and Fring as well. No problems. Yesterday I went to the ask the hp dealer if can re-install the Garmin. The seller mentioned that there were virus in my hp. After he 'cleaned it up', he re-install Garmin. And I tried to off the phone again (to check if Garmin is the cause of WSOD). True enough it did not turn on anymore and no matter how the hp dealer tried to hard reset, it couldn't turn on at all. He asked me to send it to the Nokia Service Centre for reprogramming (?).

Upset that the phone couldn't be on, I tried to fiddle around with the phone, trying to see if I can hard reset it (pressing the power button + camera button + red + green), and it miraculously turned on. Surprisingly Garmin is still intact (the first time I did hard reset, it was gone). I on and off it again, so far so good too (turned on and off properly). However, when I installed opera again, it refuse to turn on. After trying few more times to do hard reset (s'times it works, s'times it doesn't), finally my X6 can be turned on. Currently my X6 has no Garmin, no Mini Opera, no Skype, no Fring.

From what I can observe, Garmin/Opera Mini+Skype+Fring = no WSOD ; Garmin + Opera Mini (without Skype + Fring) = WSOD

So, here're the things I would like to ask.

1) I can't access to webpages that require password (like facebook yahoo mail, gmail etc), so I need to download Opera Mini as I can access the webpages through OM. Is there other recommended browsers other than Opera Mini for Symbian phones? Anyone facing similar problems using the normal nokia browser?

2) I scanned my hp when I first got it with Avira Antivirus. Could it be that the normal PC antivirus is not able to detect hp viruses? Is it necessary to install antivirus for hp?

3) Is it possible that Garmin and Opera Mini programs are clashing with each other? Can I install both in the Mass Memory instead of C?

4) When I connect the phone to PC, I can still see Garmin files in it, but could not locate in anywhere on the phone by itself. Does this mean that Garmin is still in my hp? If it is, why isn't it showing up in anywhere? (I checked the apps folder, but it's not there).

5) Right now, I don't dare to use the phone (each time it resets, my data like contacts and personalized phone settings will be gone). icon_question.gif icon_question.gif icon_question.gif

Thank you in advance.

wow... that's quiite a complex one you have there...

just as a guide, i'm using 5800xm with both Garmin Mobile XT AND both Opera Mini & Mobile installed, but i have no problem like yours.

i'm just wondering, apart from mass memory, do you have microSD card in your phone too?

i would suggest you to do a hard reset on your phone, and to update to the latest firmware available.

then install Opera Mini into your phone's C:, but install your Garmin into Mass Memory (or MicroSD card, if available).

try that out and let us know how it fared.

Hi, thanks for replying.

No, there is no microSD in my phone. It's internal 8Gb. Tried hard reset already, results still the same. But now the phone would not on no matter what (even the power+red+green+cam button combi). My firmware is already updated to the latest V21.

This morning I sent my phone to Nokia Service Centre and they told me it's hardware problem - need to send to HQ. I got really pissed off (bcos now it feels like i'm going being played in a merry-go-round) so I called the dealer to ask if i could have a 1-to-1 exchange policy. But they keep giving me reasons like it's bcos I downloaded the apps that caused my phone hardware to be infected by virus (this I confirmed with the service center and they said no). Then, I said.. it's only a week and i hardly got to use it bcos of the many problems. N guess what the dealer said? it's because my name is already on the warranty card? what the? it's common sense to write your name on the warranty card once when you purchased an item, right? The dealer said, if the warranty card didn't have my name, they can actually exchange it??

nah... they just want to refuse to take up responsibility...
threaten them that you will make a complaint to Small Claims Tribunal.

but of course you better start doing it, get the complaints forms, etc etc...

Some updates: that same day I called the boss personally. Told her about all the problems and asked if i could exchange. She told me to bring the phone to let her check first. I did not waste a single minute, straight went to the service center to take my phone, and went to see the boss.

She told me, it may be the 3rd party softwares (games which her worker put in). after she deleted it, she told me to try another day (surprisingly the screen can on normally). I tried to switch on and off few more times until finally it suddenly can't on again.

Finally she changed the whole set for me. So, now I have a new set. But, if it's Garmin + mini opera, it is still the same thing. So, finally I deleted Garmin and so far it works perfectly fine.

1. i can access to webpages that require password by Nokia Bowser.
2. Not necessary to install Anti-Virus on phone. PC's anti-virus should be able to scan virus.
3. i install both at mass memory, no crashing at all. mayb the Garmin that dealer install to u has problem. Anyway, what ur garmin version?
4. some files in Garmin folder might missing , so cant show at apps folder there. u need 3rd File Manager like X-plore to move the system file. Nokia buil-in file manager cant view and manage system file(resource or system folder at c or e drive)

Now the new phone can access the webpages requiring password by Nokia Browser.
My Opera on the other hand, now can't even access to the internet.. *sigh*
Hm, I forgot which version because I deleted it, But, he said it's the latest one.
Oh, 3rd file manager? Aiks, no chance to explore that now though..

Thx for the feedback smile.gif

if you already have OviSuite installed, connect your fone via BT or cable, let OviSuite detect your fone and just run the SIS file frm your computer
