If you are not concern about the bulkiness of the size and plain design, the G551 would be suitable for you. As for Lenovo more targeting towards almost ultrabook-like. And the weight for each laptops are different as weight would also affect mobility

Asus G551JM : 2.7 kg
Acer V Nitro : ~3.0 kg
Lenovo Y50-70 : 2.5 kg

Sources
G551JM
Acer
Y50-70
*
Acer is 2.4kg

The one you mentioned is the 17" version.

If you have the money for a 15", thin, light, and high performance notebook, you should wait for MSI GS60, Gigabyte P35 v3 and the new illegear(based on Clevo 650 & 651).

It will be based on GTX 970M(MSI GS60, Gigabyte P35W v3, and Illegear) & GTX 980M(Gigabyte P35X v3, and Illegear)
But it's going to cost you RM6k and above though.

Well, it comes with 3k display, 256GB SSD, 16GB RAM, Thinner, lighter, and almost twice more powerful in gaming than the Y50, Nitro, and G551.
Can't expect it to be cheap.

If they come out with a 1080p display, non SSD, it might be abit cheaper. Probably in the rm6k range.

Gigabyte and Illegear will also probably be in the rm6k range.

The 17" 1080p, 7200rpm is the cheapest one that costs 7299.

Sorry, was referring to GS60 that if they can reduce the spec of the GS60, it might reduce the price of RM7699 to something much cheaper.
Then again, they also might put it at the same price as the GS70, which is RM7299.

Wonder if they might put a GTX 970M into a GE60.
They did put a GTX 765M last time.
This would at least make a GTX 970M laptop more affordable.

The 880 and 870 series Nvidia already cost 800 - 1500 (illegear). it's so expected from the 9xx series to be in that price.
*
Yup, the GTX 970M is quite expensive compared to the GTX 870M when it first came out. Should be the same for the 980M.
Fortunately the improvement(faster and cooler) is justifiable.

Illegear 980m models from 6199 to 7399. Not bad, but they're all fat.

*
Illegear might sell a new clevo model similar to this video :

It is thinner and lighter.
Else, it's the Gigabyte and MSI.

Edited the youtube link.

Darn. Aftershock's prices are really competitive. Among the cheapest, in fact.

Very cheap indeed.
Looking at a similar spec(Example S15 w GTX 980M), it is almost RM1k cheaper!

Their price is going to be the game changer in Malaysia. I might reconsider my plan to purchase gaming desktop and might opt their rig with GTX980M instead laugh.gif

Yup. Illegear and others really need to do something with their prices.

You should go ahead! brows.gif

Hmm..many nice comments

Yeah i know.. Just add on few more to get 970 what i want. And at that price pushing the bdget abit.

I have surveyed all lol.. Now waiting my decisions and hopefully some persuasive comment here lol

Seriously, GTX 970M is the beast.

Z5(GTX 860M) vs S15(GTX 970M) :
You have to pay an extra 26% for an extra 70-90% performance.
If you can get the money, don't think anymore. biggrin.gif

Yeah for those who looking for new laptops better wait 1-2months... But still not bad if you choose a laptop with 860m cuz the increment in performance is only 15-20%.

GTX 965M vs GTX 860M

Unigine Heaven 3.0 = 34% faster
3DMark (2013) = 37% faster
3DMark 11 = 44% faster

So, it's quite a significant faster.

True. But the earlier post was regarding to 860m vs 965m laptop pricing. Its about 1k+ in comparison to v15 with 860m. If the user is keen to spend 4k+ for new tech of coz its worth it. And btw its not really that significantly faster...only comparable with 870m. Gtx965m 66fps vs gtx860m 50fps. 860m is still quite snappy considering laptops with this gpu cost lest than 4k. Good for the budget and for light-medium gamers.

P/s: sometimes % dont show the whole picture. Actually fps is much more accurate.
*
It's good for those who have extra money to spend for a bit of future proof, but couldn't afford a GTX 970M or higher laptop.

If it is let say RM1.2k more expensive than the V15(RM3.5k), meaning it is 34% more expensive for a 34% more faster GPU. Which is still ok, IMHO.
Meaning that both GTX 860M and GTX 965M have the same value.

Let's use 34% comparison.
23fps vs 30fps.
You will see quite a significant different. Not highly significant, but quite.

Yep if u say future proof then definitely go for 965m.
Was looking around and i saw desktop 960, 960ti and 965ti coming out end of this month. The 965ti is equivalent to 780 and should be priced at rm1200. Now this makes me wanna build a gaming desktop!

Nice info.
Btw, it'll probably be cheaper.
You can get a Gainward GTX 970 for just RM1090.

GTX 960M will replace GTX 860M

GTX 965M is somewhere between GTX 960M and GTX 970M, price and performance.
*
Yup. Leaks saying that a GTX 960M will just be a little bit faster than the GTX 860M.

Will the price of 965 be near 960 or 970?

FYI Nvidia GTX 965M price is only slightly lower than GTX 970M.

Frankly speaking, it's not worth, might as well get 970M.
*
I see.
I'm guessing you were referring to the clevo version rite?
Looking at your website, difference is around RM180, while Aftershock shows a difference of RM300.

But looking at Gigabyte's new laptop with GTX 965M, the difference is about USD200(P34K v3 at USD1,499).
Which is quite a big gap. hmm.gif

While the GE62 is priced at around almost the same price where the GE60 was last time. shocking.gif
I'm guessing it will be one of the cheapest laptop with a GTX 965M out there. RM4k-RM4.3k?

Quite a good price there.
Let's hope they don't have any issues with heat.

The price gap is so little.

But other Brand might have a bigger gap.
