Nope, 1TB 5400rpm standard HDD only. SSD is much better than SSHD.
u can add SSD to boost system response time. 

Only 2.5' standard sata HDD slot.

Lol..half a year...too long. You'll end up not buying anything coz there will always be newer, better models to choose from. I made my decision in approximately 3 weeks. JUST BUY IT..LOL

The Acer Nitro has really good specs but as Storm88 noted in his review that VERY limited units as its alot cheaper compared to the actual retail price in Singapore. Can check with Tech Armory and see if you're lucky or not.

What's missing from this thread is also the MSI GE60 2PE and GE70 2PE models. Both come with an extra 2 mSATA slots so you can easily upgrade with SSD and keep the existing HDD.

If your budget is around 3-4k.. you got plenty of choices..

MSI, Lenovo if you can tahan the serious heat issue of those laptop

Asus if you can tahan the after sales service

Acer if you can tahan the period to wait for your unit to have stock

Illegear/Aftershock if you can higher ur budget as most of their laptop come w/o OS (their laptop so far I felt that it's the best of buck compare to others, good service though)

Dell if you can tahan some of the laptop spec is not as good as other brand.. but aw so far the build quality and after sales service is really good

All got pros and cons, just pick 1 which you feel you can endure the cons the most..

I am getting my son a new notebook to play games, currently he has a Dell 17" with i7 8GB (bought 2 years ago) and he added a SSD card but complains that it overheat and shuts down. He plays games non-stop on weekends. So, was thinking of getting him a new notebook and was considering MSI GE60 2PE Apache Pro or ASUS G551.

Spent the last 3 hours reading the threads here in LYN and I noted that one person said the MSI a frying pan, hahaha, and ASUS G551 no slot for m.SATA or SSD.

So, need advise from you guys on ACER V Nitro which is good for my pocket.

1. ACER V Nitro got extra slot for m.SATA or SSD?
2. Any heat issue? Keyboard hot?

For me 4.3k not worth lar.. I rather get V15.. cheap 1k..
Of course if you don't want the Blue-Ray rom and extra 8gb ram lar.. 4gb vram no use.. You still can't play watch dogs at 1080p high settings

Can read write Blue-ray disc lo.. normal DVD player can't read or write BR disc.. It cost a few hundred bucks also.. if you didn't burn CD then can pass it.. no use.. For video, not like you want to buy original Blue Ray movie which cost 100+ right ? 

I found 17.3'' a bit big for me.. just your preference lo.. V15 also is LG-IPS screen.. just smaller

4GB vram for me not much use.. cause we cant play much high demanding game on ultra or high 1080p.. Cause only those high / ultra settings require so much vram.. For multi-monitor/rendering I not sure.. I think won't affect much ba.. rendering / editing stuff gtx series can't do much pun.. Quadro series is better 

Guys, May I know what kind of SSD does Acer nitro v black edition can installed for extra slot ? M.2 or Msata?

M.2 or msata ssds are notoriously expensive. Paid my plextor m6m 256gb for RM698. But that was when msatas was just fairly new. I think i got ripped off

Ge60. Pro version. Got 2 msata slots, but now 1 filled up. Needed a ssd to run laptop to save batt. My hdd drains batt power like a thirsty dog.

It was expensive cuz other than samsung evo there arent any ssds that produce good read/write speeds. I'd get a samsung but unfortunately tarak msata version when i want to buy last year. Got people offer me transcend but with such poor read/write rates i rather not... If u are using v15 nitro i think it uses m.2 ssd.
