Good morning guys!

I was driving along NS hwy at about 100 kmph and all of a sudden, gear lowered to about 2 - 3 and could only cruise at around 40... A few lights came up around the speedometer (see pic) at the same time.

Stop at the nearest R&R which wasn't far and rang Subaru service center at PJ Section 51. The guy on the phone was very helpful and pretty much guide me step by step to get the car up and running again.

One tip is to have a normal 2B pencil (all my other pens couldn't fit through the tiny hole next to gear stick) to push the lever in the hole to release the gear stick to P. Also, you need something slim but strong to pry open the small cover located at the top left hand of the gear thing. After pushing the lever down, restart the car and the car should be able to drive like normal. Fingers crossed, i only drove around 15 km to my office after that. Later tonight when i go home, hopefully it doesn't give me problems... Plan to bring my car in for service this coming Tuesday.. Hopefully this would be covered under warranty.... sad.gifsad.gifsad.gif

Will keep you guys posted on what the actual problem is for my car once i know... According to the service center, its wiring problems in the gear box. Previous customer's wires were bitten by rats!

Anyway.... hopefully you guys wouldn't need to go through this, but its probably a good idea to get the service center to check the wiring next time you send your car in for service.

i was told to pump as often as possible and running the car with very low fuel is actually quite bad for the engine. Dont know how true is that though.. haha..

By the way, brought my car in to the service centre this morning and was told that there is no problem with the gear box wiring which caused the car to stall when i was driving on the highway the other day. So they just updated some software stuff and cleared the fault code for me. Fingers crossed, it doesnt happen ever again. Was quite dangerous when it happened the other day.

I always hear this strange metal clacking sound when starting the car in the morning. I am pretty sure the sound comes from the engine bay. does anyone here experience anything similar?
*
doesnt happen with my car... i think you should get it check. Most likely something minor with a quick fix.

Those considering a new XV might want to wait for this? Unsure whether we'll get the model here or not though..

RON 97 is not a requirement. But if you want maximum performance/power, you need it for this engine. There is no problem running 95 on it, just not for maximum performance.

Long term wise, I can't tell yet on the effects of RON 95 on this DI engine. But this DIT engine runs a relatively high boost even at stock. For comparison, the previous Forester stock boost target is 0.8bar max. This new FXT sets target boost at 1.3bar. Of course partially due to the fact that it is DI engine etc. But still it runs pretty high boost.

If your car is stock with no mods, the use of 97 will only give you marginal feel of improvement and definitely you will feel it is a waste of money.
*
I've recently switched over to RON 97 and used it for about a month already after using 95 for the past 4 - 5 months.. my experience is that it gives a smoother acceleration and therefore a quieter ride on my XV.

WOW. The service centre at section 51 have further upgraded the waiting area compared to the last time i was here for my first service. The area now have two additional computers with internet access for all to use. A lot more tidbits are available too on top of the instant hot drink machine. Very impressed.

i have done my first service last week, took me 3 hours ... i almost sapu all the junk food, good to have something for me to do while waiting. I saw the room with computer, doesn't know that is for internet, -.-"
*
Three hours?! I've done three services so far and all took around one and half hours so far. Those that arrived earlier than me took around 1 hr. I guess the tip is to book the earliest session.

u should try fill ur tyre with full nitrogen.. i somehow feel, my tyre noise was slightly, reduced... cos i always take note of the noise level...
becos now i notice, even at low volume, i can still hear my music clearly...
its either a psychological effect to justify the rm20 i paid for the nitrogen, or indeed the cooler tyre temperature has some effect on the tyre accoustic...

anyhow, i still prefer 100% nitrogen cos the car really feels different in terms of handling and comfort... plus no need to pump so often too....
*
cant wait to change my tyres... the road noise is very loud indeed..

by the way, by installing these soundproofing products, does it pose any warranty issues in the future...? Anyone here that could shed some light to this..?

Soundproofing the car might be a good idea. Just that choosing the right one is important. Whether it's foam or soundproof mats, there are bundles of them on the market. I'm thinking of doing just that after accessorising my car with the door sills, foot pedals, bumper & read guard, mud flaps, door visors and the works!
*
do share once the soundproofing is done.. Im still quite skeptical on soundproofing of the XV as i am really not sure how effective it can be! smile.gif

i only did my doors, for speaker sound..
next project is all wheel arches, then rear bonet, and finally, roof...
but the wheel arches alone will cost around 900, using stp mastic, applied from outside the car...  sweat.gif

how is it after doing the door..? good improvement..?

The zinc roof noise is also in my Impreza, both export and JDM models with my friends have this issue. They did not bother to pad the roof as once you remove to cabin cover, all you see is bare metal. They have never bothered to fix this issue even from the 1994 model Impreza (one of the oldest car in our subaru club) to the newest model and now the XV too.
*
Will sound proofing be able to fix this bare metal problem..?

what do you guys think about using the Motul engine oil on the XV? Will it be better or a waste of money..?

The SC allows you to bring in your own oil?
*
i took the 5 years free service package when i bought the car.. so one of the fine prints at the bottom of the service schedule is that we could pay extra if we wanted to use Motul engine oil for service instead of the castrol magnatec which is the one they would us as standard.

So im just wondering whether is it beneficial to pay the extra and go for motul or in fact its bad for the XV enginer if we use Motul..?
