Some thoughts after the game...

When was the last time Liverpool conceded 3 goals? Yes...3-1 loss to Hull City and guess what? That was the last time Skrtel and Kolo were paired together before today.

Just 3 clean sheets in the last 16. Conceding at least 2 goals in 25 of 59 league games under Rodgers. Damn our defence is leaky!

sorry going abit off topic..never had the chance to see how bayern play under pep..

saw this video posted in K and im amazed at their tiki taka..

they played fast 1 touch passing..

and most of the time you could see 4 players forming a square perimeter...

hopefully we can be able to play this kind of football soon

Absolutely beautiful. Sadly we don't have the personnel to play this style. Bayern v Barca would be a dream CL final.

Also surprised to see BR sticking with this back four especially the center pairings considering our suicidal defense at dealing with crosses and targetman against Stoke. No surprise it was Kolo and Skrtel who conceded 3 against Hull 2 against Stoke now 2 against Villa.

Ex-Liverpool star John Aldridge has claimed his former club rejected the chance to sign Seamus Coleman before he moved to Everton for 60,000 pounds in January 2009.

“If Rafael Benitez had been a little more open-minded during his final year as Liverpool manager, Seamus Coleman could be wearing a red shirt at Anfield last night and not a blue Everton jersey,” Aldridge wrote.

“Back in my days as Tranmere manager, Liverpool-born Paul Cook was one of the players in my squad and he went on to manage Sligo Rovers during a period when a young Coleman emerged through the ranks and started to make a name for himself in the League of Ireland.

“Paul knew this kid was top drawer and he rang some contacts at Liverpool and tried to encourage them to take a look at Coleman, but Benitez rejected his advances and said he wasn’t interested. What a mistake that proved to be.

“Everton stepped in with an offer of just 60,000 pounds to sign Coleman and he has now established himself, in my eyes at least, as the best full-back in the Premier League this season.

“Every time I see him, I can’t help but lament what might have been for Liverpool because at a time when my old club are crying out for a quality attacking full-backs, we only have to look across Stanley Park to see who could and should have been doing that job right now.”

Lol. Salah to Chelsea..hes gonna warm the bench there. Chelsea dont even need him..clearly a case of hijacking, just because they can.

That's what we said when Willian joined Chelsea, though not setting the PL alight and yet to justify his 30m fee but he is playing a key role in their title hunt so far this season.

On the positive side, hopefully this deal will turn out to be more like Sigurdsson or Dempsey than Mkhitaryan. Maybe the money is being saved to strengthen much needed areas in defensive midfield and full backs the next window but that might be too late if MU pips us to the 4th spot. With Mata and 4th spot in the bag they are sending a strong message to strengthen even further with big name players whilst we have no CL football to show for to maybe finally lose Suarez once and for all. Vicious cycle?

i read the price that that chelsea pay is around 11mil which is cheap for nowadays transfer. if salah is eager to move to pools, he'll push for the move to materialise. just my 2cent though.

Yes I agree. Doesn't matter if Chelsea agreed a fee with Basel. If Salah really insists on moving to Liverpool and Liverpool only, Basel can't force him to agree personal terms with Chelsea.

More happy with the rare clean sheet than the flurry of goals scored. Stevie looks much more assured in his defensive positioning but still needs to work on that role. He has a tendency to overplay a pass in a dangerous position.

It's a non issue really. We see players bickering and having exchanges on the field all the time when they are not passed the ball when they feel they are in a good position.

Looking at it in a positive way, SAS is HUNGRY and it can only be good for us.

Coutinho and Sterling should work more on their finishing really.

Liverpool ultimately missed out on signing Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah because he did not want to come to Anfield, according to the club’s managing director Ian Ayre.

Ayre said: “We haven’t been held back from concluding a deal by finances. The player decided he didn’t want to come to Liverpool.

http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/1694892/...verpool?cc=4716

So did he not want to come to Anfield as soon as Chelsea is interested in him? If so I would rather not have him since he doesn't really have the hunger to come play for LIVERPOOL. Still doesn't hide the fact that we could have concluded this deal earlier before Chelsea came in. Not too disheartened though, don't think this is an area we need to strengthen at the moment.

well not saying that possession more important than results but in crucial game, u'd like to see the team holding the ball more and pass around to create chances. i still believe the team may be punished by other teams if they let them hold the ball like everton did.

Are you familiar with the term "gegenpressing"? A term that is catching up with "tiki-taka" in terms of popularity. A philosophy employed by Dortmund that led them to 2 titles and a CL final. Similar to "tiki-taka" it requires to team to aggressively press the opponent to win the ball back as soon as possession is lost. Difference is in how they move the ball up the field when the ball has been won. "Gegenpressing" aims to move the ball up quickly to counterattack before the opposition sets up their defensive shape which was what we were doing last night. Due to the nature of the quick passing in the final 3rd, it's easier to lose possession when attempting more ambitious through balls hence the lack of possession.

It didn't really matter if Everton had more possession though because in my opinion they didn't look threatening with those possession much like how we were last season with an over-emphasis on possession.

yarmelemko is good but sometime he's clueless.. rotating for nothing..

prefer kono coz he's more direct

I agree. Kono is perhaps more similar to Sterling and a better fit for our style. Still don't think that's a position we need to strengthen right now. Hopefully we get a DM or a LB in.

br wanna to fully play coutinho on central role i guess.. there's no coincidence that we target salah who is similar to play on left side.. reason why br reluctant to get dm coz he know gerrard wont get dropped as well as hendo.. so those 2 mf slot are certainly occupied by hendo and gerrard.. with allen and lucas just coming in less than a month

atm, there's no reliable lb are available.. and dm there probably we find cheaper option our just pass it,,
*
Allen might be back soon but Lucas is out for 2 months. I don't really wanna see a 34 year old playing 90 minutes every game especially at this stage of the season where there are more 2 game weeks. I do see the reasoning for Konoplyanka though, Sterling seems to be the only out and out winger type player in the first team.

As for LB, can't really think of any apart from Coentrao but Real might be reluctant to sell at this stage of the season.

in dm role i think br one some1 like makelele or essien.. a mobile dm.. which why he dont go for mvila and reges didnt he? or maybe with price tag factor..
dont think rubin and porto will sell cheap on these guy

coentrao is good attacker but there's no way we can go for him.. even with a loan his wage could be a heart attack

Fernando's contract is running out at the end of this season.

"The Ukrainian Messi," they call him in his homeland. For some bizarre reason, every country needs to have its own clone of the planet's most famous footballer. Mohamed Salah, for example, is "The Egyptian Messi," Gabriel Torje was supposed to be the Romanian Messi, and so on. In the case of Konoplyanka, though, his style of play is definitely different. It is much better to compare him to Arjen Robben.

Just look again at that phenomenal shot past Joe Hart last year. That is Konoplyanka's trademark movement -- getting the ball on the left, cutting into the middle, and unleashing a shot into the far corner with his much stronger right foot. He scored a similar goal against PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League last season. Put a mirror to that, and you will get Robben's favourite routine from the right. Similar to the Dutchman, Konoplyanka's game is based on speed, as he can beat almost any defender down the wing. Just like Robben, the Ukrainian is a supreme dribbler but is quite often accused of being too selfish and in love with the ball. In short, the midfielder is a new Robben.

An article from last September dug up in wake of our apparent transfer talks with him. Also note that the article also suggests that he isn't exactly a loyal person.

Wonder why we are willing to valus this player higher than Salah who is younger and cheaper?

Erm...don't quite understand how our "transfer commitee" work..

This dude is more of a finished article compared to Salah. Watch Salah's video off youtube and you will have an impression that he is very speedy and constantly making runs off the ball looking for scoring opportunities. Konoplyanka on the other hand is much more skillful on the ball and is able to score from outside the box.
