Esscom command between Bukit Aman and Mindef, says Zahid
KAJANG: The command of the Eastern Sabah Security Command (Esscom) will be placed under the police and army on a rotation basis, rather than being an independent body as it has operated in the past. Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Saturday that the transition was still being studied by the Ministry and National Security Council (NSC), adding that the final decision on the matter would be made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. "But to me, this suggestion makes sense. Adjustments are being done to have the Esscom commandant be under Bukit Aman and Mindef. "As such to determine that the entire Esszone is controlled well, its best that the commandant is rotated between the two over the period of a few years. “So say PDRM will take command of Esscom first and then it is handed to the army after a few years," Dr Zahid told reporters. The announcement comes after call to replace Esscom director-general Datuk Mohammad Mentek with a uniformed senior security officer, after two women were kidnapped for ransom by gunmen at the Singamata Reef Resort last month. The incident, which is the second of its kind since Esscom was established, has cast a glare on the safe zone's effectiveness in preventing foreign intrusions. Zahid did not give a timeframe on when the lead role for Esscom will be handed over to either authorities, saying there was plenty of coordination that needs to be made before the transition. "What is being considered is the use of assets that were purchased by either the police, army or maritime agency. But the priority still remains in ensuring the safety of the Eastern Sabah people," he said. Zahid added that the role of Esscom may also be expanded to curbing the smuggling of subsidised goods out of the country, which has become a boon in the state. He said the Ministry's smuggling prevention unit and the Customs Department would be roped in for this. http://www.thestar.com.my/News/Nation/2014...rotation-Zahid/ Well, putting head of Immigration as the leader was a bad idea anyway, and it took two incidents for them to realize it. |

U.S Marines and Republic of Korea Completes Air Assault Mission
'Katchi Kapshida' or 'We go together,' doesn't only apply to the friendship between the Republic of Korea and United States Army. It also describes the relationship between all U.S. military branches stationed in Korea. Soldiers from 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade assisted the ROK and United States Marines in completing an air assault mission, March 13, 2014, at a multi-purpose range complex in Northern South Korean. Aviation Soldiers from 2nd Battalion (Assault), 2nd Aviation Regiment and 3rd General Support Aviation Battalion provided air support to more than 300 ROK and U.S. Marines on 25 UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for the air assault training. "In my three years with this unit, I have never been a part of such a large operation," said Richmond, Va. native Spc. Christopher E. Bodin, a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter repairer, assigned to Company B, 2-2nd Avn. Regt. "Seeing 25 helicopters take off at one time was simply amazing as well as a good show of force." All battalions in 2nd CAB had a part in making the mission a successful one. Even though 2-2nd Avn. Regt., had the lead, the brigade as a whole worked as a team to complete the mission. "All Soldiers from the youngest private that is pumping fuel, gathering parts, or turning wrenches in support of the mission gets to see and understand what it takes to support the war time mission," said Florence, Mo. native, Command Sgt. Maj. James Johnson, 2-2 Avn. Regt., senior enlisted advisor. Soldiers from Co. E, 2-2 Avn. Regt., established a 10-point forward area refueling point on a runway for all helicopters involved in the assault. Pilots from 4th Aerial Reconnaissance Bn. (Attack), 2nd Avn. Regt. flew AH-64 Apache helicopters, assisting Black Hawk pilots with overhead security and navigation to the landing zone. "This type of training ensures that the ROK- U.S. Alliance has faith in one another's ability to support and defend, should the armistice fail," said Johnson. The 2-2 Avn. Regt. and other units in 2nd CAB conduct assault training various times throughout the year and at least biannually there are chances to conduct air assaults with other branches of the U.S. and ROK military. ![]() Source: http://www.army.mil/article/124300/U_S_Mar...ssion/?from=RSS This post has been edited by wanvadder: Apr 25 2014, 02:42 PM |
