Maybe can consider US navy Whidbey Island class dock landing ship 16000 tons， 2 off the this ship will retirement this year,  maybe RMN can buy it used as LPD.

I think the army also have this in their mind when doing large important purchases

RMAF had a bad time with getting spare parts for our Migs, even parts for our Suks is from China.

Russian stuff might be cheaper up front, but very poor after sales service support which makes it expensive in the long run.
At least with the americans/europeans service level is there even though up-front it's expensive.

Drones to be used to fight crime, smuggling and intrusion at sea

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Maritime En­­forcement Agency (MMEA) will use drones as eyes in the sky to fight crime, smuggling and intrusion at sea.

The agency’s director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish said the agency expected to rely on fixed-wing and rotary-wing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) as part of its strategy.

“We are still in the planning stages, but the UAV is the way forward for MMEA to ensure better surveillance of local waters.”
MMEA had five regions of jurisdiction nationwide, involving 4,492km of coast line where sea surveillance using ships was no longer sufficient, he said.

“We want to improve our operational efforts by using drones.

“We can further secure our borders, especially sea routes, with the drones,” he said, adding that MMEA hoped to acquire the aircraft by 2020.

Adm Mohd Amdan said criminals, especially cigarette smugglers, were becoming increasingly crafty and the agency needed to be ready to face such challenges.

“Cigarette smugglers will use a particular boat filled with contraband cigarettes as a decoy to lure authorities, allowing a group of boats with much more cargo to slip through.”

Adm Mohd Amdan said with Malaysia being used as a transit point for human smuggling, the smugglers were known to avoid arousing suspicion by using smaller fishing boats with fewer passengers to slip past the authorities.

“These smaller boats will then rendezvous with a larger ship that will then take a big ‘load’ of people to neighbouring countries.

“Each illegal immigrant is charged about US$200 (RM669) for their trip,” he said.

Despite being low in logistical capabilities, Adm Mohd Amdan vowed that the agency would give its all to improve the security of Malaysian waters as well as mount successful search and rescue operations.

WTF? The so-called ships from Aussie are destined for MMEA? In time where RMN sorely needed ships to patrol our long coasts, in which many of its assets donated to MMEA no less, MMEA snagged the procurement deal?

i couldn't agree more..imo, it's better to create a medium-sized specialize marine force like what we did to our elite airborne 10 Briged Para instead of large divisional-size marines like USMC..better just train the army with amphibious training rather than creating a whole new military branch.. 

if we do really wanna established our own marine Force, dun think it will more than 2 regiments strength..so maybe Royal Marines model is the way to go..

USS Denver is way too old, even as training vessel, maybe its maintenance cost will be high

Well given his clout anyway, I tend to put Marhalim atleast below Dzirhan in terms of defense procurement news. However at the end of the day, MINDEF still has the last say.

Both Dzirhan and Marhalim are credible sources, but both have also been proven wrong too by way of predicting military acquisition before.
