i just got my hand on fujimi 1/700 full hull yamato and soryuu aircraft carrier, want to know how you all paint the ship or just leave it as it is?
airbrush seems expensive and no experience in using it, and matte paint looks difficult to hand paint

QUOTE(limfreelance @ May 18 2015, 11:02 AM) for military model especially ship, if u r looking for detail, u need to get PE (photo etch) for painting, u can get a budget airbrush, but the most killing your wallet is color paint & leveling thinner. leveling thinner is really expensive what i dont like about the photo etch is the shinning gold/silver color which make it a bit unreal although it is more detailed i doubt the real warships has such shinning color scheme with them

QUOTE(Khai62 @ May 27 2015, 08:43 AM) You need super glue for PEs since they are brass/ metal and not plastic which is why plastic cement don't stick. Also a few different type of tweezer tips can help to hold them while gluing. i see....but wont super glue be too thick for smaller parts?

QUOTE(limfreelance @ Jun 15 2015, 10:13 AM) nice build, but the gap line is so obvious. and some parts doesn't fit well especially those small turrets and i have to trim them 1 by 1 and the guide book didnt mention those parts are from which section (usually is A10, A20, A30), they just mention the number and i have to find it out from the die myself need to do something on the gap too, but i only got industrial putty, i dont think can be use for scaled model

QUOTE(Soft Rice King @ Jun 15 2015, 10:58 AM) While we're at ships topic....know of any place i can get PE locally? Coz not sure how much Kastam's gonna charge me if i bring in from the like of 1999 or hlj... looking for 1:350 PE. last time i order PE parts only from 1999, the shipment using EMS is around 1k yen, i think wont kena custom la unless is over 500 that is for both soryu and yamato at 1/700 scale, 1/350 should be same shipping fees also This post has been edited by amduser: Jun 15 2015, 11:33 AM

QUOTE(Soft Rice King @ Jun 15 2015, 11:33 AM) thanks bro. if really unable to find locally then guess no choice d.. i guess the easiest kit to find in malaysia is Aoshima waterline series, for PE is almost non-existent QUOTE(Khai62 @ Jun 15 2015, 01:38 PM) Sadly military kit is still a very niche market here. Finding a kit is already hard enough, let alone find the right PE for it. Meanwhile the PE for Shinano is abit pain in the arse... » Click to show Spoiler - click again to hide... « is that 1/700 scale? too bad shinano dont have full hull, it seems like the length of the ship in real life is close to yamato, which is freaking huge

QUOTE(Khai62 @ Jun 15 2015, 11:04 PM) Yep, it was 1/700 scale and as Exiled pointed out it IS based on the Yamato Class battleship. Funnily enough as i research the Shinano, the IJN planners have a "great" idea of using her as a forward floating refueling station for the Unryuu class planes to refit and rearm while supposedly sit closer to the frontline and taking hits (which is why her rated plane capacity is around 30+ which is actually crap for something of that size). Needless to say the admirals are not happy with that idea. well....the japanese has a lot of "great ideas" back then > use 4 CV as flagship to fight at the frontline without escort > Yamato as commanding ship at safe distance because it is too previously to be damaged nevertheless i still like their warships

QUOTE(limfreelance @ Jun 16 2015, 05:54 PM) 1/350 modern war ship or aircraft carrier is consider cheap. ONLY IJN ship r pricy, less option (propeller, PE pon tak kasi), less detail compared to other ww2 ship that made from trumpeter & hobby boss. but i see JMSDF doesn't come with much details due to their stealth design, and full hull version also not many around
