I'm still using the latest cmetal build. The most stable rom for me so far. Additional stuff I just use xposed module. Great battery life to boot.

Xposed framework allows xposed modules to make changes to system UI, apps, etc without actually altering those things. It's like the changes is made when the phone boots up.

Imagine...Without a custom rom, there's no way you have quicksettings. But with xposed, you can modify the system UI without actually modifying it complicated.

@some1 ask bout china phone, battery issue, software lag, memory slow, no play store, cannot sideload, locked bootloader (due to china govt), parts easy break, hardware easy spoil and many more

My next at the end of this year probably wont be nexus, battery and camera just drives me mad

my gnex just wont charge suddenly. when it happened the 1st time, i remove the cover and cleaned the charging port. after that, it can charge again. it charging became weird because the phone can only charged at certain % of the battery left. I can charged the fon at below 80%. after a couple of days, it went back to normal. then it happened for 2nd time. I did everything as I did when it happened 1st time but to no avail. i dunno want to revive it back or not. i'm pretty sure it's not the battery's fault. the only solution i can think of is buy a spare battery and wall charger.

springfall i just do normal stuff like editing the menu button icon, then hang and restart bootloop, using nova launcher and CNA 4.4

but i know many ppl experience reboot when using cna 4.4

most probably the usb port rosak, happened to mine recently and I replaced the part.

That's why I still stuck with the last version of PGM. Can't brain how Touch control works. PGM is just setup and forget.

My USB port is also not so good, I think I mentioned before. So far it lasts, seems like only the data pins are problematic. Keeps saying connected, disconnected, connected, disconnected... but it will still charge. But recently my GPS has stopped working. Sometimes it still gets 1 or 2 satellites, when it has very good view to the sky, so I think the GPS chip is still fine, just the antenna is broken. Anyone got experience with that...? I'm running 4.4, but I didn't change the ROM before it happened. It worked for a couple of days after I updated the phone, then it stopped working.

Not keen on changing the phone yet. Want to give the Chinese a bit more time to mature (and I want a chipset with Hi10P and HEVC support), now that Samsung and LG are... not what I want, HTC is over budget, ...

hi everyone, new to this thread as i just got myself a used gnex last 2 months or so ago. main usage personal and work, no gaming at all. it was running 4.2.1 when i got it and a few weeks back i finally took the jump and flashed 4.3 stock ROM. Seeing how easy it was to flash, i was on Omnimetal KITKAT in no time. anyways, some Force Closure and freezes forced me back to stock jellybean for stability.

I'm on crDroid right now and itchy wanna try other roms. wanna ask all you season players between cataclysm and purity. your input is highly appreciated.

many will say catalysm.. even though myself haven't use it.. yet

I'll come back to KITKAT eventually. Omni was stable until foolish me, i turned on ART on a working day, well Monday night and play with it and it ran fine, didnt spend some time to tweak kernel or do proper run through. Random reboots the whole day Tues cause I was multitasking a lot and camera not connecting a few times when I really need to use it. Worse was when I need to make calls, it just freezes and then reboots. Battery was really good on Omni compared to 4.2.1 stock.

So that's why I'm back to Jelly for the time being for my daily driver since most Jelly ROM are stable, but thanks for your suggestions so far, will definitely check them out. I've already downloaded PA, Cataclysm and Purity (all Jelly), just need to decide which one. Oh and today got battery drain from Google Search so I'm ready for some flashing. Maybe get another GNex and use that to play with ROMs...

Anyone on MIUI? Which version? Verdict?

DIY repair. Bought the part from Amazon and asked a friend to bring it back here.

cant get complete download on aokp gapps... still trying...
goo.im 100MB+ files are a problem with my PC and connection and aokp dont give alternative download source for gapps.

use the 2nd download link, goo is having server problems..
do not flash if u complete goo downloads, u will meet bootloops.
or search other 4.4.2 gapps.
if u can't find, i can upload but it takes time (10kbps upload speed here)

Completed gapps download finally, md5 matched. Will be flashing later today.

I read that other gapps might introduce bugs and its recommended to flash AOKP gapps only.
Gapps are downloadable only from goo, i dont see any other alternatives links on AOKP site. did google from other download sites but cant find the exact one. i do have PA gapps if anything goes wrong.

anyways i got 20140109 nightly and aokp-gapps-kk-20140110-signed, will update here after flashing.

I had problem with my USB port but now it's as good as new. My once can't be used original USB cable is now back alive again thanks to the USB port. I've done nothing except opening my phone up twice and done almost nothing then the USB port revived from water damage. As strong as a cockroach

itz a runtime tat make ur phone slightly faster since we run on dalvik, people say we are slower than ios

Hi everyone. Just wondering, anybody have extra galaxy nexus? Coz my galaxy nexus display isnt working anymore. I need to use another galaxy nexus display for awhile(few hours) only. Just to retrieve my data from the galaxy nexus. Maybe i can offer rent the phone for few hours. Anybody help will be much appreciated.

go to setting>dev settings
and look under runtime, if said dalvik then tap it and select art and reboot.

Can't use USB transfer? You don't even need to look at it. Or maybe you can boot into recovery by "feel" then use ADB pull. Some alternatives for you

Just need the display panel, i will temporarily put the display on my phone(will do it infront of the owner) to retrieve information from my galaxy nexus as my galaxy nexus screen shattered.. i dun plan to repair it permanently. Just need to backup my phone. by the way anybody nearby shah alam, subang jaya, kota damansara willing to help me...

My phone have a lockscreen pattern lock. I didnt think i enable my usb debugging option. Thanks for replying :-) and i didnt root as well.

You need to manually select ART. If you have not - you are running Dalvik.

ART is new with introduction of KitKat, a more optimised way for OS to run apps. You need to download optimised gapps - i think its calls banks - to fully appreciate ART, at the moment only a small number of apps are ART ready, most are from Google themselves.

Kernel sits between OS and hardware - the I/O. When you press a button, the kernel tells the hardware what was pressed. Kernel also control colors, memory, etc. So a tuned kernel can make your phone snappier, save battery, advance options to tune your colors, OC ur CPU, GPU, overvolt, undervolt, etc.

Most kernel are phone and android version specific, so choose the one made for your phone. On GNex the famous ones are franco, ASKP, Tiny, AK, Golden, etc. Some custom ROM has kernel recommendation or the other way round.

As of today I'm on AOKP 4.4.2 and ASKP Grande (non Linaro) kernel. ROM is running stable, no FC at all, which is very important if you use this ROM as a daily driver for work like me. I feel it shoots better pics (could be placebo, idk...). cutomisation is still minimal, they're upgrading with every nightly. Only complaint is the icons are BIG, no plan to install any 3rd party launcher. Currently tweaking kernel for best battery life and responsiveness.

camera is indeed better (in terms of the viewfinder bug) but i found macro to be less better compared to 4.0/4.1
4.4.2 camera is indeed better than 4.2+

Thanks again for the suggestion dude! Will tweak ASKP kernel until I'm happy and will report back. So far, out of the box, applications pops - it doesn't launch, it pops! Still need to see if battery life really improves.

Hmmm G2 vs N5... G2 battery seems damn impressive.

the problem is I think the next Nexus is going to be much better

N5 camera even though is huge improvement, but still so so compare to other flagship.

I think the next one they going to focus on camera gao gao, and I suspect is going to be Sony or other OEM besides LG, since they already did 2 version.

Main concern still battery and camera but I got power bank now and just bought a compact camera. Even RM300 compact can easily beats most phone camera


Look away from Galaxy Nexus. It's 2 years old device with battery sipping chipset, mediocre camera and once top of the line smoothness. Current advancement in SoC makes it fair pretty bad in user experience compared to newer phones.

Unless I'm the type that can afford all the new stuff that come out today. Everyone want to be a trendsetter, early adopter. Even companies wants to be in that position.

Regardless, this is the reason why forum like lowyat exist, to squeeze every single drop of performance & life out of your technology, hardware, software, etc. Gnex is still a capable piece of hardware for me, xda is still churning development for it daily. Comparison cant be avoided but lets compare orange to orange. To each his own...

I would really suggest to go with other better phone, i bet u can find a better and newer phone with Gnex's price now.

Unless u wan a phone just for calling, whatsapp, and normally web surfing but no game, Gnex is still a really good phone

I'm already reaching the state that Gnex's CPU power and RAM is no longer enuff for me

ive been looking at many other options, like I said in previous thread.
N5/lumia (high-end)/moto g/ dedicated camera...
but G2's UI is horrible and and back looks cheaper than Galaxy s series
