QUOTE(shinchan99 @ Feb 19 2014, 02:13 PM) Just another quick question, I will be renting either a MIFI or SIMcard for data usage on my smartphone. Can the android app like MAPS be able to guide me as my GPS and leave the car GPS aside? This will also mean to save all the POI before reaching Japan, and load it with the internet/data from MIFI / Simcard. Has anyone tried the Google MAPS app during their visit in Japan? i was planning the same thing. i'm almost certain it will work but just need some re-assurances.

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Feb 19 2014, 02:57 PM) I have used google map before but that was walking. It wasnt so accurate compare. Accurate means that its about maybe 10m behind. Most probably the issue is my device. I would suggest you used GPS for driving as you need to be as accurate as possible. Please note that unlike KL, you cannot simply "gostan" here if you miss a turn. how long ago did u use it? i used google maps 2 years ago (for walking) and it's quite accurate QUOTE(spicyfooty @ Feb 19 2014, 03:49 PM) believe me, google MAPS work just fine in Japan. It can show you train and bus schedule, the routes, and even the price. It can even suggest 'Fewer transfer' or 'Less Walking' routes as you like. That's why I get a b-mobile data sim card 1GB. without google maps, my travel in japan will be a mess! Thanks Google! good to know

QUOTE(sacwoc @ Feb 19 2014, 05:45 PM) I used it two weeks ago, though in Ginza. But as Sputnik says, its defenitely depends on your device and also I always get confuse with the orientation - is the arrow really pointing to the front or the back??? I have seen the GPS used by taxi here and its really easy to navigate. And to input Japanese address, its actually very simple. Just find the city and then input the address "numbers" like 1-2-11, which you can find in all japanese address. @shinchan99 - if you need a piece of mind of some screen shot, just PM me and will gladly send it to you. the orientation will follow your point of view mah. when u turn, the entire map will follow u to turn. there are 2 types of orientation that can be viewed in the google maps app. one is the map follow your turn, the other is the map is fixed, only the arrow will turn. usually for navigation, the default view is the first one.

QUOTE(terryykf @ Feb 25 2014, 01:56 PM) Going to Tokyo on 26March2015,reached at 10:30pm Leaving on 31March at 11:45pm Flight by AirAsia Hopefully can catch the Sakura season then it's not 6 days, only 5 days at the most because you "reach" Tokyo on 26th and "leaving" on 31st. I wouldn't recommend u go Kyoto, it's just too rush and will ruin your trip. 5 days is just nice for Tokyo and side trips. save Kyoto for your next trip, this time can include Osaka because they are quite near.

QUOTE(Human Nature @ Feb 26 2014, 06:40 PM) I am interested to know too. Been finding a reason to visit taiwan u don't need a reason to go taiwan, because it is AWESOME. one of the cheaper developed countries u can visit, the living standards in Taipei is similar to KL but the living quality is twice better. they have very similar cultures as Japan because they are so near, not to mention the super politeness of everyone. if u have 6-7 days, it's just enough to visit every part of Taipei. ok, back on topic now...

QUOTE(masterelr @ Feb 27 2014, 10:30 PM) Will it be weird if you eat a bowl of rice using a spoon instead of chopsticks? I can eat noodles with chopsticks but I always have a hard time with rice. Most of the time I have to put my mouth close to the bowl and use the chopstick to push the rice into my mouth. Or is it supposed to be done that way? Also, is it true that its normal to use your hand to eat sushi? If you do that here people will definitely stare and laugh at you. the Japs does this when they are hungry, it's normal u can use hand to eat sushi, no problem, but when u dip soy sauce make sure the rice is on top so that it doesn't get wet from the sauce

QUOTE(ping325 @ Mar 4 2014, 11:54 PM) will be travelling next year first week of february...8 days...is it a good time to go ? already bought ticket kl > tokyo return flight rm800 per person is it consider cheap ? BTW my itenary is likes this Tokyo >> Hokkaido >> NAGASAKI >> KYOTO >> FUJI >>TOKYO will i have enought time ? 8 days enought to visit all the place ? planning to go sapporo snow festival , see one piece in nagasaki , visit kyoto and Q highlands then back to tokyo shibuya, akihabhara,,harajuku, odaiba estimate spending RM8000 per person exclude flight ticket LOL i'll be going to Japan next month (10 days), my original plan was from Osaka - Tokyo - Hokkaido - Osaka (flight back) but it's just too rush because the journey from Hokkaido to Osaka takes too long (even with overnight bus or shinkansen), so now i'll skip Hokkaido.

QUOTE(RegentCid @ Mar 5 2014, 04:33 PM) Osaka to Tokyo are cheaper with JR Rail Pass. That mean travel state to state // Region to another region. Osaka to Kyoto are more cheaper if using Kansai Thru Pass. Travel with Kintetsu Rail. BTW, I never been Japan before. I dunno.....I guess only. i've calculated based on hyperdia info that for Osaka - Tokyo - Osaka -Kyoto (X2) using JR pass will save me at least 10k yen

QUOTE(deodorant @ Mar 5 2014, 04:36 PM) If you are planning to go tuna auction, you should consider that you'll be awake by like 3.30am, so a full day itinerary all the way til late night might be ... tiring. we won't be going for the auction, just go there for breakfast, get some fresh seafood meals

QUOTE(ericng19 @ Mar 7 2014, 06:07 PM) Early May, why? My travel dates are flexible travel from early May to mid may should be okay for us as long as I can get the cheapest flights other than airasia, the one I found online the cheapest was around 1450 for return flights each person, wonder if I can get a better deal at matta fair or not only. i don't know about last minute flight purchase, most of them are quite expensive. i always plan my trips at least 3 months ahead, meaning early flight bookings are quite cheap. managed to grab my MAS flight for next month for just RM800 (return). sometimes last last minute deals are available, because airline need to sell out those unbooked seats and they are super cheap but depends on your luck.

I will buy ''Local'' know only stuff i was wondering what kind of "local" stuff (preferably budget ones) that can only be found in Osaka / Tokyo to bring back as souvenirs most stuff i found (info on the internet) are either quite useless or quite expensive This post has been edited by stormlcc: Mar 14 2014, 12:35 PM
