Just bought mine last friday. After spending a lot of moolah using many notebook from the past. From Crusoe, Intel MMX, to P2, P3, P4D, P4M, Centrino 1.4, 1.6. 1.86, Athlon M (Sorry never use Via). I truly believe this one top other model by value, performance and look.
Overall: I dunno why people willing to buy Lifebook or Viao or Thinkpad nowadays for that extra moolah. Why I said so? Toshiba is all about built quality. IBM is the super built ans super stable and yet the stealth look and the Thinkpad name. Sony and Fujitsu I believe is more like a normal overall package with killer price. I used them all already, yeah oh yea. You name it, all the major brand low end until high end. The V3010 built quality good, on par or better than fujitsu and toshiba. Keyboard tactile nice but cant top IBM. Looks, a viao killer anytime.
Notebook is going to be out dated soon esp the centrino processor which is not supporting the 64bit wagon. Why wanna spend more? For name and fortune? Naahh.
Buy now, use few years and sell it here loo. :-P
Processor: And its vista ready! 64bit computing, you wont worry if you wanna run Windows Vista with this baby. 1.6 x2 is more than enough for our daily computing need with torrent, limewire and mp3 running at the back. This is on of AMD best mobility effort. The athlon mobilty sucks and Turion rule. In term of performance, as par as my Centrino 1.86Ghz.
Heat: So far as the heat issue, I have been running in a warm room for more than 48 hours. Quite ok. Just make sure have some gaps underneath the notebook for the warm air to come out. Battery life, max with wifi 2 1/2 max. So if u want better battery life, get the 12 cell that can last 5 hours min.
Graphics: Gforce 6150 good enuff for online gaming. 64MB min and put some extra ram and you can up to 256MB!
Memory & Storage: First AMD using DDR2 finally! 5400RM 60GB SATA hardisk is quite good and the storage capacity is on par with the price of the notebook given,
The DVD-RW DL even support DVDRAM.
Cons: Only lacking I see in this notebook. No Bluetooth and Webcam. Other than that a dream come true for only 3K. For now I havent seen any other notebook in the market now that can top off this notebook in overall packing with the price.
Recommendation: Get 1GB RAM for better performance and just buy an external hardisk if ur storage is not enuff or burn it in DVD DL.
P.S. For the V3010 buyer. Dont download the driver at the HP webpage, its useless. Buy your notebook. Install OS and go to HP service center to get the driver.
Im running WinXP Pro (Ori) with service pack 2 and standard specs.
Im going to get 1gb pair of ddr667 and 12 cell battery plus a notebook cooling pad for my torrent download.
