Well, i believe there's some truth to it. Alexander empire reached the banks of indus river. more like suku i think. like melayu kelantan, melayu kedah, melayu kabau, melayu johor.

Bataks are also part of astronesian group of ppl which inc malays, javanese, various indonesian tribes, champs of cambodia & vietnam; sulu ppl, filipinos, taiwanese tribes & polynesian.

The diff is there almost 100% christian. There 5 main bataks groups and the southermost bataks- mandailing ppl are almost 100% muslim and very respect ppl in nusantara especially those mandailing batak wth surname "Nasution"
