Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz has been reliably reported to be top of Manchester City’s wishlist to replace 33-year-old Kevin De Bruyne, whom the club are ready to offer an extension on reduced wages owing to his desire to play for Belgium in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Wirtz is understood to prefer a move to either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich as City look to refurbish their squad amid a battle to finish in the Premier League top-four. There is also uncertainty around the future(s) of each of Bernardo Silva, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, John Stones, Ederson, Manuel Akanaji – with wholesale changes expected in Guardiola’s squad when Hugo Viana takes over from Txiki Begiristain as director of football. |
