i think he meant the switch on the hood itself
btw i got three switch -
the 13A socket got one switch up on top near the hood which cannot be reach unless you stand on a ladder or chair
i also got another 20amp double pole switch near the countertop
and then the switch on the hood itself
i didnt make it that way but since it is there, i use only lah

i know the double pole 20a is overkill in this situation
Remember the "problem" I had with the plug socket been outside the hood cover? Ok lah in the end cannot see too much. Had to cut a small lobang to pass the cable thru

The switch too crowded around the cooking place. And those switch behind the hob, later will be full of sticky oil and dirt from the cooking. You got to clean it up frequently. Got to becarefull.
If the hood switch is convenient to ON/OFF, it should be sufficient. You only need a socket for the plug hide away. That 1 always ON is ok since the hood already have switch.
My hood don't have the switch. When I want to use, I slight it out and it ON. Finish, slight it back and it OFF. The hood is built in cabinet type. Socket and plug always ON and hide into the cabinet.
