Hey guys,

New Z1 user here - after comtemplating it over the Nexus 5, I realised I couldn't live without the SD card and the N5's FUSE, so here I am with one of the best build quality phones I have ever owned.

My previous phone was an S2, with a custom ROM so things are definitely need getting used to tongue.gif Had to live with a few awesome features missing like Halo but I'm sure something aimilar will come about.

How many of you guys are already on 4.3?

Thanks ckchan smile.gif

Also, another question - how does the OTA update work? I notice some users are already getting the notification to update, but I'm not getting it yet.

for OTA, just go to the apps Update Centre and click refresh. if there is any OTA update, it will be shown here.

As for the availability of OTA update, i'm not sure why some got it early while others got it late.

yours are ori malaysia set right?

Mine's an AP, UK model I believe. If that's what blocking me then looks I will have to resort to manual intervention...

I was thinking of rooting it, but already update to 4.3, & I'm too lazy to roll back to prev firmware, will wait & see how it perform in 4.4 then I'll decide.
and I heard 4.4 will fixed the camera bug for unlocked phone.
*
You mean the bootloader? They fixed it in 4.3 wink.gif

Sorry man, only got a camera and that's on my Z1. It's a tad bulky with rubberized edges, but the fit is very snug and tight. Buttons are difficult to press, a problem with TPU cases though. And I foresee a problem with my skinny jeans tongue.gif

QUOTE(ZeneticX @ Jan 16 2014, 09:41 PM)
finally on 4.3 with FULL ROOT biggrin.gif , locked BL

just follow this guide, step by step carefully

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988
after the update you will find the nfc icon missing

go to system folder, look for build.prop

look for the section #NFC, and then the line  " ro.nfc.icon.enable " , set the value to true

reboot and u have the icon back
*
Just got on the 4.3 bandwagon with root as well wink.gif Followed the Youtube guide by SHEM and it's all good - and I have the NFC icon as well right out of the box. Now to use it for a few days to see improvements...

So for me who has the firmware 290 will need to flash firmware 534, root it, then follow the steps to update to 290? rclxub.gif
*
In essence, you will have to downgrade to the version which you can use the root exploit, then you re-upgrade to the current 4.3. Also I read somewhere that you will have to upgrade to 4.3 before proceeding to 4.4... doesn't sound plausible though.

For you guys with rooted phones, have you uninstalled any of the Sony and Google apps? I think I wouldn't be using stuff like Sony Select, Sony Movie, Sony Photo, Sociallife news, Walkman, Album, Voice dialer, Voice Search, Google+, Play Games app, Xperia Lounge, Xperia Privilege, Playstation Mobile and Sketch. What's a good uninstaller for these?
*
Done that a few days ago - if you have root, it's easy as going into the /system/app/ folder and delete them off. There are lists online which can guide you on which is safe to uninstall. Alternatively you can also use ES File Explorer to uninstall those apps.

QUOTE(terryfu @ Jan 20 2014, 02:55 PM)
But if just the message comes out then it could be the rubber cover is loose as the phone detects it being loose to make sure its waterproof tight though sometimes it says please mount back SD c card as well. I got the same problem as it occurs sometimes so far. It is an irritant.
*
Actually, I think the 'waterproof' message comes out periodically - I'm quite sure there is no sensor located on the door.

Also, finally got Xposed installed - Gravitybox, GEM Xperia Xposed and Xperia Flip Settings brought back all the AOSP-style shortcuts and customizations I've been wanting smile.gif

im wondering isit caused by xposed framework

I just installed Greenify free version today - will update you later on.

Mind sharing which apps on my list did you uninstall?  I'm concerned about uninstalling something important and cause a bootloop.  I can't seem to find the websites you mentioned.
*
Try doing a search in the XDA site, a few lists would come up but I would say to use your own judgment. In a nutshell, you can remove those Sony apps (I didn't remove Smart Connect, Sketch, Update Center, Albums, WALKMAN, FM Radio though), themes, plugins, and Chrome. You can use the Xperia Z lists as a reference as well, they are very similar.

I found a thread about removing Xperia bloatware and a couple of members suggested freezing the apps with Titanium Backup to test for potential problems before actually uninstalling the apps.
*
To be on the safe side you could do that as well, or you could just do a Nandroid backup before uninstalling them, it'll work the same way.

QUOTE(ckchan @ Jan 20 2014, 11:18 PM)
lilzany, please include this in the first page as i think this is the only method to root .290 fw

also the step to enable the NFC icons
*
Now I understood what you meant - the NFC at the statusbar smile.gif Icon is there now, thanks!

Anyone know, can this phone use "Samsung 64GB MicroSD XC Pro Class 10 UHS-1 Read Speed 70mb/s Write Speed 20mb/s Ultra Fast Speed Memory Card"?

I don't want after bought but cannot use.
*
SDXC cards are supported, so there shouldn't be any issue.

Yup... my touchscreen not working after fully submerged into the pools... but thats not the first time my z1 submerged... Have been fully submerged more then 15 times into the pools previously without any issue... I sent to SC and they changed the board after approval from Sony Malaysia...

I think as long as the water not sip through the port with flap, it shouldn't be a problem as for my unit there was no water traces sip through the flapped port.
*
Unfortunately the waterproofing is kind of a double edged sword for warranty - I've been told from numerous people that water inside wouldn't be honored in warranty as the phone is 'guaranteed' to work till its intended depth - if there's water inside it's bound to be user error, and not a problem with the phone. sad.gif

Hi All,

Could please advise any good application to install for minimize the usage of power button for screen lock and unlock screen. Would appreciate someone can share here.

Thanks
*
Gravitybox has a few options you can set at the navigation bar for double tapping and holding - I hold the Home key to sleep the phone, works great. There are apps which utilize the proximity sensor to wake the phone, but I would not suggest keeping the sensor on, plus you'd likely accidentally trigger it more than intended.

To those who often read-up xda-developers, you may have seen this:

http://www.xda-developers.com/android/get-...with-intelli3g/

So far, it's working great on my 4.3 .290 firmware - standby time has noticeably improved, but I will put it to the usability test tomorrow smile.gif

How is it working for you so far?
*
Not too bad - you'd save quite a bit when you're on standby or on WiFi as you will stay on 2G when it is not needed. On screen unlock it will jump back to 3G/LTE immediately after. Do play around the settings a little as you drain more battery switching from 3G to 2G too often.

I'd say this is a very good app without interfering too much - give it a try. smile.gif

I came from an S2 - if you have been doing mods it should be too familiar for you, just slightly more complicated that's all.

Which 3G/4G mode did you select? I select LTE, GSM/WCDMA. Is this correct for Maxis?

Anyone here use Tasker or a CPU manager to slow down the CPU to save battery? I'm trying to find out how to reduce the clock speed while the screen is off and bring it back to normal when the screen is on.
*
That setting should be correct. I'm on Digi, and yes WCDMA is also known as HSPA or HSPA+ here.

Coming to controlling clock speeds - I'd say that there is not much battery gain to be made from there since clockspeeds and core activation is a major factor in battery life, and I'm sure Sony has done much with it. I'd suggest not to tweak it as it results with very little benefit, and may interfere with other applications actively running at the background (for instance, music players where you will hear stutter if the clock speed is reduced too low).
