not exactly right, underclock the cpu definitely going to save some juice.. underclock the max freq to 1728 and u'll see noticeable reduction on heating.. less heat less juice burn out..

anyway,@Bernard Yeo u can try 'No Frills CPU Control' app..
set
min freq: 300
max freq: 1728
IO scheduler: Row
Governor: OnDemand, or something else u want..

It does save battery, but it also means that you you're limiting the capabilities... it's a compromise. When looking at battery saving techniques I run a gain vs compromise ratio in my head... well that's the way I do it tongue.gif

In the pursuit for better battery life further and further on my old phones I find myself implementing solutions which resulted in minimal gain and with more inconvenience - in my case, dropping clock speeds or altering core wakeups did not do it for me in past tries, but I would certainly love to be proven wrong laugh.gif

I shall prove you wrong. I'll use my Note 2 LTE as an example.

• Removed all bloatware and minimise wakelocks
• Underclock to 600MHz when performance is not needed (web browsing)
• Undervolted to borderline stability
• Locked to 1 core
• Adjusted the CPU hotplug to only increase clock speed if necessary

Therefore, on stock configuration, I was only able to get 7 hours of screen time over WiFi. With such tweaks done, 10 hours easily, 12 hours on lowest possible brightness (enabling register hook to allow undervolting of LEDs)

That is great. smile.gif 10 hours on average is a whole lot of extra time. I managed poorly with my S2 though, it didn't have much tolerance to UV and lowering clockspeeds was even more of a disaster since the phone had to be on full speed with today's applications laugh.gif

Guys ,

I have some issue here, dont know if you guys also have it, i wonder why my Wifi sometime will auto disconnect and popup " wifi network available" even when the phone is connected to hat network, already formatted the phone and using .257 fw, is there any solution for this issue since i've search on xda and cant find one. quite annoying
*
There's a setting that tries to automatically connect to a WiFi network with a stronger signal - is that disabled? Sometimes there are hotspots with the same SSIDs, but you only see one in the settings but to the phone it's different and it tries to connect to that hotspot.

the main idea of underclocking is to reduce heat first, and from there battery will be discharge slower than hotter one.. anyway 1.7ghz is still quite alot for a phone, so far i hvnt met any performance issue or maybe its just me not having over heavy processes..
shouldnt really compare this with S2, its a dual core 1.2 vs quad core 2.1.. its almost double of a S2 already haha.. if apps can survive dual core 1.2, they definitely can survive quad core 1.7 tongue.gif
*
Fair enough tongue.gif But the phone does set its clock speeds and activated cores according to the current load, so unless Sony did a shoddy job of a good load balancing it wouldn't have to ramp up to max freqs just for the heck of it. But I also agree that Sony may have set a huge margin of tolerance to cater for varying qualities, so there's gains to be had when performing fine-tuning.

Ok I fixed my phone T9 problem by doing a factory reset under Settings. Now to pinpoint which is the offending app that broke my T9.

There's an app with a phone icon that does the T9 searching... can't remember the exact name but I read it a few days back. So don't remove that smile.gif
