Ok. I buy your mindset then. Like this I better get it directly from Sharp then. Else use vacumn cleaner to further clean it up.
I just want to minimize the dust and the Ionizer kills the bacteria for me.  biggrin.gif

what is the best bang for the buck air filter for bedroom?

Also need to check your room size, need to check CADR to match your requirement.

Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) is a figure of merit that is the cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air that has had all the particles of a given size distribution removed.

Many of you ask the same questions so we have listed the most important items you need to consider before buying your 1st or subsequent air purifiers.  Note that only 5% of the brands offered in this region offer H12 HEPA filtration which will capture dangerous particles set at the PM2.5 level to start and only a couple will do it at an efficient rate to move your air quality into a safe zone.

If you want to know if your air purifier is working you should significantly feel the difference even if for only preventative needs.  If you suffer from Allergies or Asthma or respiratory problems, these symptoms should basically be relieved within 48 hours if you've chosen a top air purifier.  Finally, if the brand or salesperson cannot show you the benefit of the air purifier in a real demonstration using a digital particle counter, how will you even know it's really working.  Don't be a victim of marketing or payment plans just to get you the product offered.  The PROOF must be offered!

At the very least, if you do not wish to do your homework carefully and follow a good guide like the below, then focus on buying air purification solution from companies who ONLY FOCUS on air purification.  Remove companies which offer multiple electronics, sell at retail level with very little in-store knowledge and look to companies that supply to the medical/commercial/corporate office clean air solutions level.

Good Luck, choosing the right Air Purifier can be exhaustive but not if your informed and educated!
Choosing An Air Purification Solution!

The following are the key point when making a smart decision;
• Minimum Filter Requirements (H12 Grade Certified HEPA) which sets the capture capabilities of the filter to the fine particle level as described under the EPA/WHO PM2.5 standard (0.3-2.5 microns).
• Total System Efficiency (TSE) which is a function of how well the air purifier performs using the above H12 HEPA filter.  This is of absolute importance when processing ambient particles far exceeding the allowable limits so you, under all circumstances, are within the safe/acceptable levels. To handle the air quality in Malaysia, look for 98%+ efficiency ONLY.
• Coverage – Each air purifier has as SQFT/SQM maximum floor area coverage.  This is a function of Air Flow, Speed and relates to performance based on how many air exchanges per/hr the unit can delivery. Don't be fooled by false coverage claims and make them test to support these claims.
• Duration to Safe Levels – This is a function of time (duration) of which an air purifier can initially process an un-purified space to a safe level.
• Noise – For spaces occupied by humans and where noise levels are important for the health and comfort of your teams, acceptable noise levels measured in dB are critical.  Note that for air purifiers to perform as stated above, higher motor speeds are needed and therefore cause unacceptable noise levels.
• Power Consumption – With energy costs rising and with numerous deployments (# of units) within corporate spaces, this is another very important factor.
• Safety – Related to the design and emissions of  air purifiers trust only the top brands/suppliers to delivery on safety.  Make sure the unit is RoHS compliant and meet the highest California Air Research Board (CARB) standards for lead free, ozone safe operation in the world.
• Initial Cost – While cost is not the only key measure when specifying an air purification solution, it’s obviously an important one so having both the cost per unit, cost per SQM of coverage and flexibility to right-size the complete solution is Smart Choice!
• Ongoing Cost – Now that you’ve procured your solution, the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) is in most cases as important as the initial event.
• Warranty – When procuring an air purification solution, the warranty of those devices based on the delivery of safe, purified air is crucial to your team health.
• Ease-Of-Use -  An air purifier by design should be intuitive and furthermore communicative as it relates to its function.  Choose brands which lead industry in this respect with the cleanest and clearest designs in the industry.  Furthermore, choose a brand which offers the Best-In-Class Technology.
Finally, how many times have you heard of someone buying an air purifier and NOT seeing results related to the reason they purchased it?  Almost always if they admit it!  How often do you hear about consumers unable to find replacement filters for their air purifiers?  Consumer Air Purification brands have short Life-Cycles and therefore your air purifier could only have a shelf life of 2-3 years if not supported by an AIR PURIFICATION ONLY BRAND!

Premium Air Purification brands in Malaysia are scarce at best but they do exist and they do offer LONG Life-Cycles and associated filter replacements for many years.  Most 5 years+, some even longer so that the cost of buying an air purifier that actually works which you will reasonably pay more for will likely cost you less year than the cheaper consumer brands which really offer little relief.

Buy Smart, Protect Yourself and your Family Properly!

Actually very simple, Atmosphere are a very good premium golden standard guildeline to pick an air purifier. So if you looking for cheaper or lower budget alternative. Should also follow the Atmosphere standard.

Like for example. Does it have HEPA filter, how many micron? etc and more..

Comments?

An air purifier is basically just a fan + HEPA filter (and sometimes particle counter) right?
*
Did you know, if the fan speed (RPM) are not strong enough, those things traps on HEPA would end up release back out once you have turn off the fan. sweat.gif

I mean his cheap diy Hepa filter method. At least those budget type air purifier are good enough power to pull them traps inside the Hepa.

I'm using the one "Atmosphere" from Amway company, it able to do the job of CADR 250 cubic feet per mins. (aka 7.1 cubic meters per minutes).

Have you guys heard of Stadler Form?

Stadler Form is a swiss based brand that is focused on air treatment products.

There is two product that i would like to share with you in regards to the thread.

An (Air purifier) called Viktor and an (air washer + air purfier) called Robert.

Viktor (Air Purifier) unlike most brands, uses HPP filter instead of the expensive HEPA Filters. HPP filters can be removed and washed, hence it can be reuse.

Also, it comes with an active carbon filter that removes odours.

Consider this two products as it is proven to have been extremely useful for air treatment.
*
What HEPA filtering method is the micron could be small as 0.009 microns like the one I'm using. So those particles or viruses or bacteria are trapped in there are dry till dead. Let's say yours one can be reuse and rewash for 1-2times (could be more). It might be just working as trapped those particles but not viruses/bacteria (SARS/H1N1 etc..)

really weird...
i ask around and seem like noone buy HEPA filter to replace the old one before

everyone use the filter for few years?
*
Not sure... mine is Atmosphere from Amway company, mine only need to be replace once around 3-5years based on the manuals, but my machine indicator haven't turn red, using since 2012, so once the filter indicator turn red, I just drop off to my nearby shop to buy the filter.

Edit: some people I know using from Coway company which have 3-4months for maintenance, so the owners might didn't know how much or how often the filter have been replace during the maintenance...

conventional company wasn't not good, is their always renew their existing model like 5 years later, so they phase out the previous model include those Hepa replacement parts.. Usually high-end model got parts while those entry level model they don't keep stock, so have to get from oversea or ebay etc...

Hi Nightfelix,

HPP filter systems uses electromagnetic fields to trap the dust particles. Hence, ALL particles will be trapped regardless of its micron size. Plus, it is inexpensive to replace the HPP Filter and could last up to 1 year to 1 year 6 months time.
*
So does it as efficient as HEPA filter?

Since now a days, those medical manufacturer or hospital are stil using HEPA filter technology, that is why I don't see much advantages over the HEPA efficiency and realibility. What are the average of CADR?

Prefilter = DIY wash, rinse, and dry so basically is FOC
Hepa Filter = RM510.90 , report claim life span up to 5 years.
Odour Filter = RM353.00, report claim life span up to 3 years (but I was using since 2012 till now 2015 still not yet changing)

spoke to a friend this evening about Air Purifiers and she said she using Sharp - good.. so is her friend. said can sleep better wo...

thought of getting 1 now with the haze and being a former asthma patient, i think good to put 1 in the bedroom..

problem is i have limited budget..

saw this in the Sales thread - https://forum.lowyat.net/index.php?showtopic=3608583&hl= ...

have back-read posts up to 1 year ago and am not sure if a common brand like those would be good? [NightFelix] [Onemorething] [zeb kew] can share some thoughts?  notworthy.gif
also the issue is when they change model, the filters they dont reproduce anymore?
how about the problem that it further dehumidifies the room yawn.gif
if its not a value buy, i might as well not buy it.
*
No. You need a HEPA based Air Purifier. Not a Ionizer. Plasmacluster is a "Marketing Name", is a more simple way to pronounce, we call it Ionizer. You can simply do a quick Google Search on Medical Studies found that, Ionizer doesn't help Asthma / Allergy people, it even worsen your situation. Xiaomi Air Purifier are budget alternative.

xiaomi cheapeast i found so far RM790 from Johor.... any1 seen cheaper? but warranty wise a bit  unsure.gif
11st street with discount slightly less.. but got warranty? couldnt find anywhere stating..
*
RM790 consider cheap. Lazada selling one RM899 with 3months warranty.

One of my friends bought himself one through Agents direct ship from China also RM720. Not sure about how warranty works if ship back to China, so if yours offer local warranty (mean he bear the costs ship back to China repair) means consider good.

Sharp seems popular, and hear some model sell until no stock....is that true?
*
Because not every consumer are like us who surf LYN or Google to do research on what their need or how it works. I'm not saying Sharp products was bad, but if you are Asthma / Allergy people, should not even think or use the Plasma Cluster aka Ionizer. Should pick those came with HEPA filter, if combo with Carbon filter would be even better.

Or else, you are pretty much good to go pick few of those.

interesting..

just like some said their air purifier can detect fart smell, if my room got odor of "men's" smell, do u think this will help eliminate it ? or will go back to square 1 after turn off?

also , i did some reading on other threads.. some point to consider b4 getting xiaomi:

1) warranty (short warranty - borne by importers)
2) filter spare part can get after few years?
should these by a concern or im thinking way too ahead? lol
*
To eliminate smell, you need Carbon Filter, just like the one inside Xiaomi Air Purifier, I'm using Atmosphere by Amway, got the same Carbon Filter to filter those Odour / VOC etc...

Warranty for Xiaomi, if got offer by importers like 3 - 6months considers good. Even spareparts can import from China too, well is made in China, nothing much to worry especially Xiaomi products. Those few years ago spareparts for Xiaomi Smartphone still do exists. So not much worry. If a electronics products can use up to 3years, and especially made in China, are considered very good. Most products are designed EOL within 2 years, or else how to make more money from consumers if the products can last 20years? Remember a Air Conditioner brand called "National" that are last long and good? Well that company no longer exists. LOL Mine using like almost 20years and still using in my master bedroom.
