Hi, I am Daniel. Me and few of my friends are planning to organise a charity for orphanage around KL area. But this is our 1st time and we do not know a lot of things so hope some forumer that been in some charity would be good to give us suggestion thanks.
- Which Orphanage? (KL Area, less donators, with friendly staff that take good cares of the children)
- What should we get for them (will not be donating cash, Would prefer educational items or food or any kinds)
At 1st i suggested stationeries for education like (mechanical pencil, led, eraser, gum, pencil box, excerse book, etc in a gift set) but after i enquire on some orphanage i notice the age range and i got no idea on what to give for age like 16-21.
Budget will depends on how much donation we will collect by the end of the day.
I heard from some people they say some orphanage age range is from 6months - 21yo so i also donno what should get for them. And some even say if we buy food supplies like Milo refill...... etc some bad orphanage staff would take home and use instate. And some would even abuse the children. That's why i would love to heard and get some suggestion on which orphanage should we go to.

QUOTE(klthor @ Dec 18 2013, 10:09 AM) my colleagues went to an orphanage last weekend. actually its preferable if u select 1 and then give their PIC a call see what they need. coz from what i know, they have tons of milo/stationeries/snacks... instead most of them lack of toiletries like toilet roll, floor cleaning, toilet cleaning... give them what they need not what you wanna give... i have seen a 60" LED TV locked in their store room becoz they dun want the children to watch tv at nite, imagine that... about which orphanage, i have no comment but i will give u a hint that those around KL are mostly over supplied with stuff... look for those out skirts 1, but they do have links btw each other so certain overflow will pass to rural area's. As long the orphanage is not too far then should be ok. Now most important is i need a orphanage then only we can go to the next step. Like to know on whats their age range.... I dont mind supplying toiletries as long their stuff wont take home and use... etc as i heard from others. Everything can be arrange. Thanks for the advise

QUOTE(Sophiera @ Dec 19 2013, 02:00 AM) Try to look for less publisized orphanages. The really popular ones are overflowing with funding/KFC, while the unknown ones are suffering thats why i start a post so that people could tell me which one is the suffering ones

QUOTE(TiramisuCoffee @ Dec 19 2013, 04:50 PM) Hi Daniel, I dunno much about orphanage. But since you are interested to do charity, you can also sponsor a child to further his/her study. The bright ones will somehow get scholarships, so go for the average category. A good education may not guarantee they 'd make it big in life, but at least it can give then a competitive start. Once my brother sponsored his very poor coursemate his first degree. Now the latter is a successful professional. It's a very satisfying feeling to be able to help another climb out of poverty , he told me. Just an idea. Good luck! cant really afford to sponsor a child as i have my family to deal with too. I am doing this just once a year with friends and representative
