Spigen Ultra Crystal is memang damn durable one, even after 1 year of using my phone with it, still not that many scratches. Don't know what magic they put into that thing lol
+1
One on my n4 only score a scratch of 2mm length thus far, since applied on February.

So it's 3GB+. Pretty big. ty
Actually these are reserved space by OS. If you need to reduce storage capacity as much as you want, you may flash apps through recovery, coz it will install into those reserved OS storage. Problem is difficult to find flashable apps, may need to dig around forum.

Aih can't wait for malaysia launch. 2014! 3GB is big considering winXP fresh install is around that also. Not to mention the swap file space since it's linux base will need it also.

I dunno how people can manage with just 4GB (other phone that comes with 4GB ROM) space and still crying for the system to be slow. Too, this NAND memory is like SSD then it needs bigger ram, we're talking more than 2GB, so to improve overall system speed. IMO, at least 40% of space should be given so yea probably u can only utilize 4GB out of 12GB.

But do you guys see any system lag with 20% space remaining (like 2GB or so)?
We were told to leave 50% of your SSD capacity for optimal performance. My experience with phone NAND storage, cant seems to spot differences as my storage always turn red, maybe because NAND chip used in phone was slow.

I see. They could be stuffing DDR/DDR2 class mem instead of DDR3 but this is model comes with DDR3. Somehow I think Google dumbed Android's file system management so to not use too much power. I mean we're talking about NAND and 2.2Ghz snap 800, things should be lightning speed. Power usage issue hence the throttling effect/lag.
Spec found on Nexus 5 storage was Sandisk chip, no further details. However due to limited phone PCB space, there's one chip only so performance was pretty limited.
What you mentioned on DDR3 was actually the RAM, which is LPDDR3 1600. Although it's 2GB only but will have performance increase over Nexus 4's LPDDR2 1066

Yea, I'm mixing up the post with ram the first part then on to rom n soc. They skipped the 1333 spec and went straight to 1.6Ghz.

The biggest upset is that in Q1 2014, the release of 4GB ram, wouldn't make the system faster but probably more breathing space. EH wait, it should give a little bit of speed since the rom is nand. Meh, I wouldn't want phone to beat my i3 laptop.
*
I wouldnt care on larger RAM ( IMO ) as my phone in KitKat barely reach 512MB of RAM usage in idle. Just hope phone manufacturer able to work their magic to bring faster storage chip. Easiest way was to utilize Industrial grade chipset, but then the sudden increase of cost. Multiple chips would theoretically multiply performance as well, but they need to work magic to put even one extra chip into the tiny PCB.

In the end, it's what you'll do with it matters most. It's fast enough it its current state to netbrowse, watch videos and play monopoly.

Yup, cant complaint much, this is Nexus devices, so cost was an important aspect. I would happily pay more for better/improved spec though tongue.gif

What I know, that thing quite pricey, cost €30. Thought to share to those who wanted to use microSD card.

Hi,
StormTrooper (Nexus 5-32 GB white) reported in. I'm replacing my nexus one.
Currently owned:-
a) nexus one
b) nexus 5
c) Nexus 7 (2012)
d) Nexus 7 (2013)
* All items above get from USA and ship from there directly to MY.
Just got my package from USA. Stuck at custom for 4 days. Getting worry as the status keep mentioning custom clearance (import permit, import license, etc) but finally received it today. No tax and no permit require. i'm must be the lucky one.
So far no problem as reported when testing nexus 5. Quite strange as i just ordered my one during black friday deal (USD394- no tax, free shipping. Total cost is RM1.2k++ for 32 GB) - getting 820 model. Don't need LTE as i'm using maxis LTE modem.
Ordered Ultra Hybrid from Spigen (USD8.97) -came with cover, screen protector and 2 back colorful image). Put in and fit very well. So far tested no issue.
Here is my speedtest result on maxis LTE (plus download 1GB of files -complete within 10 min)

Congrats, nice to see one still owned Nexus One. My shipment also stuck at kastam now, same status as yours ( clearance delay ), might need to purchase SIRIM permit this Thurs cry.gif

Linaro which are based on Franco supports it too. If you asked me the double tap2wake, sweep2wake thing is just battery eater. Unless you use pouch or use unlock pattern/password when you put in your pants it sometimes unlock by itself because it detect my leg touching the screen and poaching my balls in the process. Having the phone constantly searching for touch response just eats the battery.

Stock Franco R24 really saves tons of battery, no need to underclock, no need to undervolt. I get 3hr+ SOT with 70% battery left on WiFi
*
I use TouchControl for long time, these swipe to wake thing does increase battery usage, but quite minimum IMO ( increase 5-10% full day ).
Tap 2 wake does had higher chance of unintentionally unlock your phone while in your pocket etc ( hence I dont use it ), but I never experience issue with Slide2Wake ever rclxms.gif

Franco does saves battery, I always leave if default.

Yeah the slide2wake is less susceptible to accidental unlocking inside pants but still 5-10% is a lot to someone who doesn't have the access to wallplug all day

Am still on Nexus4 ( nexus 5 still not reach my hand ), so doesnt matter if I save 10% batt, still cant last whole day cry.gif

scratch proof vs crack proof, I'm voting for crack proof anyday thumbup.gif

scratch is $25 to replace, crack is >rm200+ to fix cool2.gif

didn't know such sp existed, might get this when I get my n5
*
Just sharing my rusty physics knowledge from college sweat.gif

Basically display screen can be of two type :
elastic ( difficult to crack but easier to bend, for example PDA screen )
tough ( difficult to bend but easier to crack, for example glass )

Most modern smartphone with corning gorilla glass was of tough type. Putting a screen protector that is difficult to crack doesnt exactly able to protect phone's glass below. Those glass type screen protector will have higher chance to protect phone screen/glass, by taking the hit. Good glass also had scatter proof characteristic thus will reduce damage to screen/glass below as well.

so you are saying normal tempered glass sp is better than rhino shield type of sp?
Nah, I had no knowledge on Rhino shield. My believe was that I rather gamble on breaking another piece of glass. Generally it was the concept of bullet proof glass, by having multiple glass stack together.

I'm still hunting for what would protect front display of my yet-to-receive nexus 5.

That is what you called physics?!

Surely you didn't watched that video, did you?

It clearly has elasticity with the impact damping layer and the impact dispersion layer, and it looks pretty stunning with what they shown in the video.

And btw, the rhino shield was quoted to be stronger than the Gorilla glass, coupled with high transmission rate and some finger and scratch resistant properties, I think it's pretty cool for $25.
*
Chill bro, I didnt watch the video. I believe it is shield/film type. I believe you misunderstand functions of it.
Phone will have glass in front of display screen, most modern phone will be using Corning's product. It's not possible for you to replace Gorilla glass with Rhino shield or other. Purpose of Rhino shield or other screen protector ( film or glass type ) will be an extra layer on top of phone's glass.
