No, I've not heard the 4c. But it shouldn't be too far off the 4.2. Obviously all horizontal centers are never going to be as good as their vertical brothers, but what choice do you have if you don't use an AT screen?

I guess I have to wait till I get the 4.2s and see if things sound a bit off with my small centre speaker. If they do sound off then will probably get the 4.C.

folks, need recommendation. i have 65 x90 (sony), and ps4, and nintendo switch, (later ps5) all going to TV thru HDMI. i realize that i wont be able to do the cabling for a true 5.1 setup. so would like to do a 2.1 setup, for a good movie experience.

this is def not HT setup, as the hall is big, and i would just up everything in the front.

Bookshelf is 180cm width. while the sofa are 280cm width, and distance from tv is around 300cm.

Shall i get receiver? which one?
for front speakers, which?

if the experience folks say that 2.1 is a waste of money for audio. then i'll just stick with TV speakers. :/

If you only plan to do 2.1 and not add more speakers, then I would suggest to look for a stereo amplifier with subwoofer output or 2 sets of speaker binding posts (this is for subwoofers which accept high level input meaning the sub also has speaker binding posts and can adjust cross-over). IMO it's a waste of money to get a receiver if you only plan to use 2.1 so I think a stereo amplifier will be a better choice and usually will sound better too.
Anyway, 2.1 or even just 2.0 is always a good choice over TV speakers and soundbars, provided that the amp and speakers are decent enough.

fair enough. recommendation for stereo amplifier with 2.1?

If you go used can get better value provided the amp is not so old and in good condition.
The A-S501 is a decent budget amp but I doubt its good enough for the evo 4.2. These speakers like power/current they sound very different with my receiver vs my creek amp. If you wanna get something in the same range as the yamaha, the q acoustics 3030i or the elac debut 6.2 will be better choices.

That said, the evo 4.2 is very good value for the money if you can pair it with a good amplifier. Some used units:

If buying new under rm3k maybe consider the yamaha rn803 also.

i dont mind used. but looking at these, they dont have optical in. which ill need for the TV to hook it up to.
*
As shown by Kevin above both the Audiolab & Cambridge Audio come with optical in. But the Cambridge amp was just sold yesterday so its out of consideration.
You can get a separate DAC with Optical input like the Topping E30, it actually sounds better than the DACs in most entry to mid level integrated amplifiers. But of course starting out you may not want to deal with so many devices and prefer to keep it simple. But the Roksan K2 is a good amp for the money if you're willing to get a separate DAC.

In case you're wondering, DACs convert digital signal to analog so that an amplifier (like the Roksan K2 without a built-in DAC) can send the signal to the speakers. Even amplifiers with a built-in DAC (like the Cambridge Audio CXA60) can also benefit from an external stand-alone DAC.

Guys, for a centre speaker, is monitor audio bronze c150 a good buy around 1.3k?
*
What are your front speakers? Try to match your front speakers exactly if possible, meaning buy a single unit and use as centre speaker. If not possible, the find a matching centre for your front speakers. If this also cannot then only find a centre speaker that at least uses similar drivers to your front speakers.

Hi Sifus,

Any review on Wharfedale Diamond 230 (or the 200 series) and Wharfedale Crystal 4 series ? Looking for a budget HT setup ....
*
Wharfedale Diamond series are quite good and value for money. Q Acoustics is also good, the reason its more expensive than Wharfedale is probably because the Diamond 230 is two generations older. Current generation is Diamond 12 series.

Hi. Need the sifu’s help here. Really a newbie in terms of HT. once bought a sony 5.1 many years ago which i stopped using after having problem with the dvd player. Then all the speakers not used. Threw it away after collecting dusts for 5 years.

Now, Want to buy a new system. Would like to ask your opinion which of my planned configuration is best for me for hometheatre mainly. I also use for listening music and ps5

1. Denon AVR 3700H + Kef LS50 meta. Since this is pricey, planning to add on centre speaker later with sub if needed. From reviews, this speaker is good enuf. This is where i’m hoping u guys can help me.

2. Denon 3700H + Dali speakers.  Either Oberon 3 + Dali Vokal centre + svs sub 1000 pro or dali oberon 5 + vokal centre

3. Denon 3700h + B&W 606 s3 + B&W centre speaker and svs 1000 pro

Basically, i’m not sure if i should choose KEF, Dali or B&W. Budget for speakers is 7k.

Any suggestion and recommendation is really appreciated. Tq

If primarily for home theatre, then look for speakers which also have a centre speaker in the family. Some suggestions will be the Dalis you have listed, Q Acoustics and SVS Prime or Ultra series.
KEF LS50 Meta and the B&W is more of a choice when your primary use is for music. They would need a better amp than an AVR to make them sing. I think it is important to have a good understanding of your use case in terms of music and HT. Also, how big is your space? The KEFs for example are smaller monitors that are more suited for small spaces. If big living room, should consider some bigger standmount speakers or floor standing ones. Whichever speakers you get, always best to also get a subwoofer as they make a big impact especially for HT.
