I think even some people who can afford to fund both a DSLR system and a system like the fuji x series will have a hard time deciding to bring which camera for an event and end up bringing both! I have seen quite a number tourists while I was in Europe carrying a DSLR w/ a 24-70 or 70-200 and also carrying an x100/x100s/x-pro 1 with them, which i thought was pretty impractical as they will be super tired at the end of the day and not have fun on their holiday! (which is of course my opinion).

When I work, I usually bring a 3kg+ full DSLR and a Fujifilm X-E1, the combo works great.
For travel, get a mirrorless, any mirrorless but for the best "gentle" and quality, you can relax when it comes to Fujifilm.
