That is quite a machine there..
But how does heat management goes? I heard that the msi laptops get quite hot, and when you turn the fan to max it becomes a whirlwind..
CNY promotion is over already for illegear? Aww.. sad.gif
Oh and is the difference between lite and the normal rs-15 only the backlit keyboard?

Yeah, Illegear machines are cooler than MSI ones in general  laugh.gif
Yalo, the promotion is quite good for some models i.e. free 120GB SSD  drool.gif
I don't think its just the backlit keyboard haha, but for more details, do find out friendly Illegear boss here- Prince J, he will be able to fill you in and perhaps gives some great offers too~  icon_rolleyes.gif

you have a hefty budget there, i will say the RS-15 Lite is a better deal. reasons to consider RS-15 Lite :
- Graphics card upgradeable in the future due to MXM ports
- Decent cooling system
- User accessible hardware for easy maintenance
- Professional look, not so flashy (a plus)
- Good hardware ergonomics
- Excellent aftersales service by Illegear

however, its up to you to consider which one is the best for you.
*
Well thank you for the suggestion, really appreciate it.. biggrin.gif
Guess I'll have to think for awhile and see if any "sudden" promotion comes haha

u can refer here,
by the looks of it its not that high i guess,
i dont know maybe other sifus can advice otherwise,
but from the looks of it.. not that big and probably minimal performance improvement

please recommend thumbup.gif

1. Preferred Brand: prefer asus/acer, lenovo and Toshiba still acceptable, apple is an absolute no no.

2. Budget: rm1200 - 1800(max is 2000 but prefer not to push it considering i have to buy the cooling pad and accessories as well.)

3. Usage:
a) sims 3 + all of it expansion/stuff packs (20 of them) (at high setting)
b) minecraft (at high setting)
c) photoshop cs6
d) heavy duty multitasking work (Photoshop cs6+Microsoft word+Music+Movie+Multiple notepad open+Emulator+Background appliction running+Browser all at the same time)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 15inch++

5. Preference :
a)for OS, i prefer to have Win.7 64Bit (ultimate if you could)
*please no mac OS or Win.8
even if the laptop is made for win 8,
i'm gonna change it system to win.7 64bit
but then it'll have license problem doh.gif

b)have ssd(120++GB) AND hdd(500gb - 1tb) for storage drive

c)have extra slot for RAM and storage drive so that i can add in more in the future.(since my current budget very tight, and i'm gonna try add up to 8gb~16gb in the future)

d) prefer the core family(intel i3 - i5 - i7) with the suffix M/QM. suffix U still ok tongue.gif

e) dedicated card as GPU

f) battery life for 4hour (i'll pluged it 90% of the time except when i'm at college though)

g) have bluetooth 4.0 and wifi be intergrated(wifi no need so troublesome to plug in d-link and i have a bluetooth headphone biggrin.gif)

6) things that can be ignored
a) its looks(i place performance and the capability to multitask as my priority)
b)optical drive (i rarely use it, i mainly use pendrive tongue.gif
c) weight

please recommend and thank for reading.

really thanks for your help biggrin.gif

AFAIK, ram are always upgradeable, to a certain extent that is. Not sure if hdd upgrade is possible but i think from what ive heard its manageable..?? And for windows 7 u could opt for a freeDOS and install windows 7 urself smile.gif

QUOTE(StarCandy @ Feb 19 2014, 07:25 PM)
Hi, thank you so much for all the recommendation
But, can any sifus suggest me some slightly cheaper but decent laptop?
Because I'm kinda not enough budget here since i'm just a student sad.gif

The price I would like is around RM2800+ or RM 3000+ and can do some uni stuff such as doing assignment, very slight gaming (like CD games),watching drama
Others (Must) = DVD rom ,Screen 14 or 15 ( not too small) , not too heavy ( since need to carry it always.) , smooth in operating, good and loud speaker
Optional = stylish design

Since my current broken laptop is Acer, so I would to try out other brand of laptop that have good reputation. smile.gif
Thank for the help ya!

How about this one

y410p (i7-4700MQ\DOS\14" HD WLED\4GB\1TB\Nvidia GT755M 2GB\2 years int. warranty) - RM2,599
Price quoted from bro storm88 thread,
do keep in mind its a freedos, so u need to search for windows as well,
which could set u at 2.8k in total

Or just go for
y510p (i7-4700MQ\W8.1\15.6" FHD LED GLARE(WEDGE)\8GB\1TB\Nvidia GT755M 2GB\2 years int. warranty) - RM3,199
quoted from bro storm88 as well.
but this one has w8.1 preinstalled

it states promotion ends on 28th august. so hurry up

PS : Sifu... please teach me how to tag names.. hahaha tongue.gif

QUOTE(Travis McCoy @ Feb 19 2014, 11:39 PM)
what I mean by dangerous,
I mean by unreliable sweat.gif
I never use before but it seem unreliable sweat.gif

and when they said device driver,
does it mean that it connect the software to the hardware and vice versa? sweat.gif

I still don't get about "provided there are drivers"
doh.gif
*
I dont know how reliable sshds are, so i wont comment on that part,

For the drivers ill just give an example,
When you format your laptop anew, per say you are currently using a lenovo y510p,
And you just happen to install windows xp (i know its old but for the sake of example),
But some functions dont work properly on ur computer such as graphic, sound, etc
So when you want to "update" the said hardware's driver to the latest to be compatible,
you can't find any windows xp driver for that said hardware, all thats left is windows 7 and 8,

So hence, for newer laptops, if u dont want windows 8,
make sure the drivers are available for windows 7 (if u want to install win7 of course),
if not... then sweat.gif sweat.gif

QUOTE(user @ Feb 19 2014, 11:44 PM)
user, if you have changed your budget/requirements, please start with a new inquiry ya laugh.gif
Lazy to read back haha XD

Okay, understood.

1. Preferred Brand : Any except Acer.

2. Budget : Try cap at RM3500

3. Usage : Mainly use for gaming (Med-gaming-Dota/online games), Video/anime (HD/non-HD), surfing & normal usage/

4. Preferred laptop/screen size : No specific requirement

5. Other requirement: Game smoothness > good wifi strength > good heat management (desktop replacement)

Eyed on below recommended sets (preferably with windows)

1) Inspirion 15 7000 (With GPU GT750M)
2) MSI GE60-20C
3) Inspirion 15R (Not really favor of its design)
4) Lenovo Y410P (Not really favor of its design)

notworthy.gif Sifus raymondtong94 [PFT.J.], based on enquiry above, please advice which set & upgrade suit most with this budget. notworthy.gif
THANK YOU!!
*
Instead of Lenovo y410p, you could definitely go for y510p considering your budget is at 3.5k,
and personally with all the recommendations ive been hearing,
i'd say go for the y510p, the base number of users here is also huge,
so u should be able to get help quite easily.

If not, opt for the msi ge60-20c smile.gif

blink.gif wth........
then I still have many research to do before buying a laptop ;(
is the driver removable?! (since it is a hardware laugh.gif )
is there any other things I need to be aware before buying at lowyat ?
cause this is my first time visiting lowyat sweat.gif
and I'm very worry I'll get conned by the store person(since I'm not a tech pro doh.gif)
*
Just like azureknight94 said, its a software for ur hardware, sorry for probably confusing u with the terms i used :/,

Well if u want to go to lowyat to buy those laptops. I suggest u go to viewnet, or jackyyang's store on the 4th floor.. I may go there this weekend if nothing comes up to do some surveys haha smile.gif

Dear Sifus,

Toshiba, Lenovo, Asus or others
RM 2,000
work, research, HD online streaming, photo editing, maybe Dota 2?
15.6", Light

Currently I'm staying in SG, if I buy here izzit cheaper?  hmm.gif
*
Your budget is quite tight for a 15.6" preference.. Here are some 14 if u would consider

Dell Inspiron 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM1699 [1.99kg], 4GB, 500GB(5400rpm), Linux, 6 cell; W8.1SL@RM1899

Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14, i3-4010U + Nvidia GT720M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM1799, 4GB, W8, 2 yrs; color: black

If you could pump your budget a little bit more u could opt for some 15" like this one
MSI CX61-2OD-078MY, i5-4200M + Nvidia GT740M@RM2199, 4GB, 500GB, anti-glare, W8

As for buying in sg or my, im not so sure about that one... sweat.gif sweat.gif

Please help me sifus...
1.
Lenovo Y510P 5938-9550 – 15.6” FHD / i7-4700 / 1x8G / 1TB / Dual GT750M 2G D5 / W8 : RM3790/-

MSI GE40 2OC-433MY (Dragon Eyes) – 14” FHD / i7-4702MQ / 4GB / 750GB / GTX760M 2GB / W8 : RM3300/-

MSI GE60 2OD-437MY – 15.6 FHD Anti-G / i7-4700MQ / 8GB / 1TB 7200RPM / GTX760M 2G GDDR5 / W8 : RM3720/-

2. Budget: RM3k - RM3.8k

3. Usage: Heavy gaming, interwebz, movies, student stuff

4. Prefer: size <15.4 inch, gtx GPU, anything within above specs are ok regardless brands

Side notes:
- I'm gonna continue my studies overseas for 2 years so 2 years futureproof-ish for gaming is my priority
- Which is better in terms of stability and consistency in gaming? Dual-GPU (lenovo) or single GPU (msi)?
- Any commends or advice about other similar models are welcome

Thanks in advance
*
Im no sifu but i agree with raymond,
if u want it to be futureproof, and further upgrade instead of buying a new laptop, illegear rs-15 lite is the way to go,
if not msi ge60 is good enough

not far but just abit I think sweat.gif

and in advance,
I want thanks all the sifus for helping noobs like me sweat.gif
really appreciate for what you helped and taught me in my journey of buying laptop laugh.gif
thank you biggrin.gif

If want puas hati in the long run. Futureproof as in upgradeable and support round the clock go for rs-15 lite that could set u at RM4999

Or if u just want to use it to the limit and buy a new one in the future go for the lenovo y510p that could be around RM3k - RM3.2k, puas hati punya biggrin.gif
