The Asus K551LB's battery is non removable... what's your thought on that?

How's the Lenovo Z510 (i5-4200M 4GB 1TB GT740 2GB 15.6")?

Asus or Lenovo? I heard Lenovo has overheating problems.

Is it better to go for an i7 with GT720M or i5 with GT740M? Gaming wise.
*
Well haven't used a laptop with non removable battery before,
but imho, the ability to interchange battery laptops are a good option,
just in case your battery is spoilt in any way

Overheating depends on the surrounding and the task that you are running atm
if its just mild work i dont think it would heat up that much.

As for the combo, id go for i5 and gt740m if purely gaming wise

just my 2 cents smile.gif

hi i am eyeing on

Dell Vostro 5470 & Accer E1-472g

which one better?
*
Most people would probably go for dell due to on site support
and ease of warranty claiming

Hi Sifu, I guess 13" is the best size to carry around, am I right?

Which one is the best? Spec and reliability wise?

and which has got longer extendedwarranty?
*
I already racked up a new list for you considering you'd be probably playing dota like u said
and u might want a dedicated gpu for that

Acer
V5-473PG-54204G50, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT740M +(1366x768;touch)@RM2299, 4GB, 500GB,W8 *no OD

Dell
Inspiron 14R, i7-4500U + Nvidia GT750M (GDDR5) @RM2499[2.32kg], 8GB, 1TB(5400rpm), Ubuntu 12.04 , 6 cell; W8SL@RM2699

Lenovo
Ideapad Flex 14, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M +(1366x768; touch) + 8GB SSHD + 500GB HDD@RM2299, 4GB, W8, 2 yrs; colors: black/orange

These are in the 14" range and would probably weigh around 2.5kg or less (u need to check the specific details on this one i forgot)

Among these picks, most would go to Dell for their superior warranty management.
Specwise also goes to dell inspiron 14r, newer cpu and gpu. though u might want to haggle
on the OS part

1. Preferred Brand

2. Budget
-10k-12k (Don't ask why it's this high)

3. Usage
-Programming, running simulations, matlab, mathematica

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
-Not sure, but she would like to use the screen for teaching purposes using teaching softwares

-Flip screen and touchscreen so that can use pen to teach.

Thanks again!

QUOTE(Gadget Empire @ Mar 2 2014, 02:33 PM)
Yup Sifu I read this but they are more than 2kg which is not nice to carry around  blush.gif

I would give up buying one just to be able to play dota as my current one serve me well  nod.gif

So out of the 4 brands for 13" which would be the best pick then?  notworthy.gif
*
Well if you want an ease of mind when facing problems and need asap support or a good warranty free headache,
go for dell smile.gif

QUOTE(phoenix24 @ Mar 2 2014, 05:15 PM)
Thanks sifu for your suggestion  notworthy.gif
Just wanna ask if Intel HD4000 is okay for my jobscope mentioned above? (Dunno why but got bad impression of intel graphic card)
After doing deeper research into your suggestion i realized that most of them have integrated battery ..
(Although i know its already a trend for the ultrabooks to have integrated battery)
i'm thinking of having removable battery since at times i could be working on the laptop for hours so i just wanna leave out the battery and straight use ac power outlet.
Can help recommend any laptop which does have removable battery?
SSD can be moved to the optional section of specs (don't mind if don't have) nod.gif
*
Well you are asking for a performance laptop, whilst wanting it to be thin and light,
which was.. never a good combination to begin with.. its bound to have problems..
overheat, stuff like that.
If you dont mind the weight, not that heavy though,
lenovo y410p or y510p would be good enough

QUOTE(-LoVe- @ Mar 2 2014, 06:10 PM)
Hi all sifus here, my sis need some help with laptop recommendations.
Hope u guys can help! Thanks you very much!
1. Preferred Brand-
- Doesn't matter as long as a reliable and established one.
- I'm using Lenovo Y410, which was also bought after get advice from sifus here, and i'm very happy and satisfied with it.  rclxms.gif

2. Budget
- around 2K

3. Usage
- do some Accounting.(Her job is accountant)
- downloading movie(heat issue?)
- play some games like maple story, Resident Evil 4, and some LAN or On9 games. (mid range graphic game i think)

4. Preferred laptop/screen size
- Normal one will do.

5. Other requirements
- lightweight is prefered, but normal weight also ok.

I hv 1 laptop in mind, but wonder why at lenovo website show that this model didnt have lan port, but the picture gallery show that it hv lan port?
S410p, i5-4200U + Nvidia GT720M@RM2099[2.1kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, 2 yrs
link: lenovo S410p

Hope for sifus reply asap. Thanks again!  biggrin.gif
*
It depends on the variants i guess, some have and some dont
but after a quick search, i think the s410p does have a lan port :/
U probably need to recheck with the seller before purchasing or visit a shop.
Its a good model with good spec for a good price tag smile.gif

QUOTE(The _RazorEdge @ Mar 2 2014, 06:23 PM)
Preffered Brand:MSI/Lenovo(Other brand is ok , brand is not a high concern)

Budget: RM3.5k-RM4.5k

Usage:Gaming(Crysis ,BF4, ....etc),lite video editing, multimedia.

Size: 15.6 (Bigger screen is acceptable but prefer 15.6)

Main concern is the PC spec for gaming and cooling (great spec but shitty cooling is not for me).
*
If you can fork out an extra 500, go for the Illegear RS-15 Lite, fits ur needs perfectly,
or you could try scouting for the msi ge60 series (depends on the 20c, 20d, 20e variant),
or the lenovo y510p (y50 is coming soon replacing this model)

Sunday afternoon, I was just about to buy the RM4,899 variant of the 13" Retina MacBook Pro. Then I thought I should ask you guys one more time before purchasing such an expensive laptop.

Of course, for now I am very biased towards the rMBP. But I would like to know non-Mac alternatives that:

• Is slim, light and portable
• Has an SSD (no hybrid nor mechanical disks please)
• Lasts for more than 6 hours per charge on web surfing
• At least a 1080p (full HD screen)
• IPS screen (or good TNs)
• Performance is the least priority but as fast as possible
• Budget isn't a thing  (but the laptop must worth its pricetag)

I'm considering:

Sony Vaio Pro SVP13218PGB but:
          - More expensive than the rMBP (Macs have better resale value)
          - 4GB of RAM is not enough for large projects in Photoshop/Illustrator

Sony Vaio Fit SVF15N18PG but:
          - Weighs a ton
          - Mechanical HDD
          - Short life span

Asus ZenBook UX301LA - DE016H but:
          - Not worth the price (IMHO. Then the DE017H variant has too little RAM and storage space)
          - Hear say the scaling issue is ridiculous
          - No HDMI! (thou it comes with adapters for the DisplayPort)
(UX302 has a mechanic HDD, so no)

Dell XPS 13-9333 but:
          - Like all other Dells, no numpad FN mode
          - Pricing

HP Spectre 13-3002tu but:
          - Price
          -  128GB of storage
Thank you.

If you are comfortable with mac os x and u really want the ssd. The mbp is a good choice as it is. Windows bootcamp is there if u want it

QUOTE(smithsonian13 @ Mar 3 2014, 03:36 AM)
Hi there all sifus...its good to know that here got some advice to get for buying new laptops...I also have an enquiry to be made

Preffered Brand:Lenovo/ASUStek/ACER/DELL (no HP or SONY)

Budget: RM3.4k

Usage:AutoCAD+Gaming (means beefy graphics is priority) like HAWX2|PES2014|COD MW3

Size: 14"

Concern: Should Have HDMI port|DVD Player/Writer|Beefy Processor+Graphics| Storage is not a concern but if good is a bonus smile.gif
*
Lenovo y410p biggrin.gif

QUOTE(Gadget Empire @ Mar 3 2014, 10:18 AM)
Bro why no HP specifically? I dont mean anything but Im considering to buy the HP out of the 4 13" laptop suggested by Sifu.

I havent tried HP before, have been using Acer for the apst 5 yrs.

Thanks
*
Its a matter of experience maybe. As an example alot of people would not like acer as a brand. But me myself using acer for 10years + had no problem whatsoever smile.gif

1. Asus, lenovo
2. 1.5k
3. dota 2
*
Very2 tight budget, i suggest u wait out and save some more around 2k-ish,
get a good laptop that could last u 3-4 years depending on usage

You could try
Lenovo
G400s, i3-3110M + Nvidia GT720M@RM1449, 4GB, 500GB, FreeDOS

But do note it does not come with an OS, u need to install urself (ehem2)
or let shop install ori which adds 200-350+

Hi guys. I am seriously considering buying the lenovo thinkpad helix cos of the convenience of just carrying the tablet. However on the lenovo forums there seems to be some problems with the fan. Does this issue affect the products here too, anyone with this helix can share some experience.

Other than this can anyone recommend other detachable hybrids that has 3g conn (a must) that runs on i7 core. Appreciate if can provide the price and where available too. Thanks alot.
*
Well in a logical sense. If u want portability u have to compromise on weight. If u want power u have to compromise portability. They just dont add up well.. So if u decide to cram a lot of turbo power in a kancil. Something is bound to go wrong. Fans problem are expected from such thin devices with powerful internal specs.. Just maintain regularly and apply the thermal space once in a while and u should be good

Hi kiva, thanks for the quick reply. :clap Ok, so if fan is the only issue then i think i can live with that. Just worried cos someone in the forum posted that the fan can run at hi speed non stop, cos will be lugging it with me whole day. Thanks again. notworthy.gif
*
It runs on high speed when there is intensive task going on in the pc
and the system goes turbo mode where the fans kick in to take out the heat.
If its casual use i dont think it would be much of a problem nod.gif

1. Any brand but I heard alot complaining lenovo always drag few months for the warranty issues?
2. Mainly gaming , school (BF4 on ultra set)
3. Good heat ventilation does not overheat easily after few hours
4. Weight is okay for me. Personally prefer heavier ones can feel "some weight" carrying it lol!

Or are there some other upcoming laptops I should wait for? Thank you

Not very sure about mobile Proc and GPU. unsure.gif

Nowadays all new laptop comes preloaded with win8.
If u want 7 u have to install urself but make sure got driver for the laptop first if not gg haha smile.gif

Among those two picks depends on what u want to do with it. Gaming go for asus (nvidia graphics win amd in the long run). Work intensive dell 15r (better proc)

So far ive been using nvidia based and amd based laptops hand in hand... Not sure why but the performance drop overtime in amd is slightly higher than nvidia.. Maybe its just me :/.. So yeah just based on my personal experience, u can google around about that if u want smile.gif

For sure the rmbp has a better life expectancy but lower spec wise. The illegear has more powerhouse built in it therefore draw more power. If u can use the macbook before and see that portability is a major factor go with it smile.gif

4. Preferred laptop/screen size: Probably none.

I think i7 is more preferred for my case right? or an i5 will do just fine?
I also wonder would graphic card matter to my works? And why are Macbooks more favourable than Window laptops for design students, other than its superb display and uniqueness..??

Well typically macbooks are relatively very light and have very long battery life, but its internal specs are somewhat a turn off to some people.

Yeah i agree that too.. The cost of the upkeep is something to take note on a tight budget too smile.gif
