need recommendation,

brand : any brand

budget : 3k-3.5k

preffered GPU : 750M-765M

preffered screen : 14"-15"

how about lenovo y410p vs MSI ge40?
*
Unless if you really need the portability, 15.6" notebooks are usually better for gaming- better cooling, larger screen nod.gif
In which's case you can take a look at:
15.6"
Asus N550JV-CN077H, i7-4700HQ + Nvidia GT750M + (1920x1080; IPS matte)@RM3699[2.7kg], 4GB, 1TB, W8, backlit keyboard

MSI
GE60-ONC, i5-3230M + Nvidia GTX675M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM3299, 4GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8
GE60-2OC, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT750M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM3599,8GB, 750GB(7200rpm), W8, steel series KB

*Price in RRP

Am comparing these two:
Y510p, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT755M(GDDR5) + (1920x1080)@RM3399[2.7kg], 8GB, 1TB, W8.1, red backlit, swappable ODD, 120w psu, 2 yrs

GP60-2OD, i7-4700MQ + Nvidia GT740M + (1920x1080; anti-glare)@RM2999, 4GB, 750GB, W8, steel series KB

Is there any other difference between these two apart from GPU,RAM,250gb? Which one will you choose between these two if the few following specs can be ignored? Why? Keen to hear your opinion guys! smile.gif

For gaming, the 1st choice is definitely better nod.gif

Hello all, thanks for the recommendation given. Wife and i decided to get the LENOVO S410p, the I7 4500U,  Nvidia GT720M 2GB with 8GB RAM together with Windows 8.1 for RM2350 along with the usual Laptop bundle, a rucksack laptop bag and a Yes4g Doogle with RM50 Credit.

The laptop weigh at 2.1 Kilo is fitting enough for her and she is quite happy with the overall performance of it.
Downside, i dont think that it has a HD display on it. Hahaha.

Grats on your purchase thumbup.gif

Noted and thanks, Nexus2238.

FYI, I did check through all the manuals and also google forums before asking. It's just that HP outlet is saying otherwise. Will go to another store and check it out again.

1. Preferred Brand : Asus/Toshiba/Dell/ (mac?)/other reputable ones.
2. Budget: RM3k to 3.5k
3. Usage: light fb gaming, blu-ray movies, light photoshopping, uni presentation slides & documents etc
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 11 to 13

My brother had an Asus UX31A. It is pretty smooth and all but he said it lags when streaming videos on fullscreen (youtube). Playing videos using 3rd party program like VLC or windows media player works fine though.

Can anyone recommend/show me some options? smile.gif should i get a mac?
*
Don't think lags when streaming videos on Fullscreen has to do with the laptop, but rather the internet provider? hmm.gif
Anyways, I think an MBA13 will work just fine, provided you are ready/already know how to use Mac OSX nod.gif

MacBookAir 13", i5-4250U + Intel HD5000 + 128GB SSD + (1440x900)@RM3299[1.35kg], 4GB, backlit keyboard, Mac OSX

A good Windows-based alternative would be:

Lenovo
IdeaPad Yoga 13, i5-3337U + Intel HD4000 + 128GB SSD@RM3399, 4GB, 2 years; colors: grey/orange

Hehe thanks for the advice icon_rolleyes.gif
Hmm seems good, especially 1TB HDD, that'll ensure I have plenty of storage for my audio production needs as well as media consumption of videos.

But I'm still skeptical about Lenovo though, maybe in the future I might get one. All about the brand thumbup.gif .

Anyways, I found one here http://www.lelong.com.my/asus-n-series-not...4-03-Sale-P.htm an Asus. Seems like a dream deal biggrin.gif

Asus? haha
See here: https://forum.lowyat.net/topic/2337458

As for storage device, don't just judge based on the capacity, but rather the speed nod.gif

Hi Sifus,

Here's my requirement

1. Preferred Brand: Any brand except Toshiba, Acer, HP, Compaq (horrible experience with these brands)
2. Budget: Less than RM2000
3. Usage: MS Word and MS Excel, lot of number crunching, surfing and watching downloaded movie/music
4. Preferred laptop/screen size: 14 inch and above, the bigger the better.
5. Hardware built-up should also have additional RAM slot for future RAM upgrades, Bluetooth and webcam.
6. OS: Prefer Windows 8 and above, 64-bit
7. Above mentioned budget should also include license to use Windows 8 and the latest MS Office.

Thanks!

What are my options??

mba 2013 13" is just starting from 3299... at that price point i dont see any laptop is better ones in the market (at least the list above)... i agree with TJ most probably lagging in youtube is due to slow internet in meresia... more than the hardware itself... this is 2013 leh, not 2005, all intel processor (even those new type celerons or B960 etc...), i believe is capable handling 1080p video
my colleague dell mobo change twice, daugtherboard once, harddisk twice... even adapter and battery changed once (at 2nd years 9 months, not sure how he nag the dell to change for him)...

the only thing that dell is proud is their warranty, the stuff QC is generally low (inspiron/vostro line), just my personally experience...

and keyboard quality is bad either (old insprion and vostro line, not sure now insprion 7000 how). you can feel the gap everytime you type...
*
QC for budget-line notebooks will definitely be low regardless of the brand man laugh.gif
At least certain brands have decent warranty support to back up laugh.gif

As for the newer lineups of notebooks (I just came back from Digital Mall), almost all of them have super shallow keyboard sinks. Most of them suck, pretty disappointed sweat.gif

so according to your experience which brand usually have the best build quality and less problem ya??

And what is your opinion on Fujitsu??
*
Its all about the "category" for each brand nod.gif
For example: Budget line notebooks will never be better than Premium line notebooks nod.gif
Apple products are deemed good quality because they only sell Premium notebooks (>RM3k)

Read here for more details, its an old post, but still, and will always be, valid icon_rolleyes.gif

budget laptop not necessary low QC low quality, look at lenovo... i brought an RM1k lenovo G400s (lowest spec) for my gf cafe... so far so good, definitely worth every cents i paid, just look at the keyboard is already worth back the price (if compare to RM1.5k-2.5k dell-ish keyboard)...

got free laptop backpac also (lenovo brand, retail i think about rm100)

Closest would be the Acer V7 at 2.2kg. Might get close to 2kg if you opt for SSD hmm.gif
