In the UK, only one student account can be opened per person. This includes Natwest's Step Account and HSBC's Student/International Student Account.
If you are planning to get a credit card here, try to open a Natwest's Step Account. starting june 2005, international student must stay in the UK for at least 3 years before they can get credit card from HSBC, but Natwest can grant a credit card straight away for Step Account holder. According to some of my friends' opinion, HSBC's internet banking is better than Natwest's. Some of my friends opened Natwest's step account and HSBC's international student account simultaneously. by doing that, both of the banks can not check whether you already opened a student account from another bank. With this, you can get a credit card from Natwest and a convenient internet banking from HSBC. However, policies can change. Make sure you check the fine print properly, as they change their policies quite frequent. |

QUOTE(chamelion @ Aug 14 2006, 11:17 PM) Last time i open Natwest cause HSBC need the student to stay at least 2.5 years and blah blah t&c. But my course mate manage to open in HSBC cause his bank draft is 25k pound where as mine is only 3k when i opened my account with HSBC last year, they didnt even ask for bank draft or anything, they just need a letter of attendance from my university, and that's all. So if you still want to open hsbc yet not meeting the requirement, make sure your old man give you big bank draft edit: and passport of course.. QUOTE(chamelion @ Aug 14 2006, 11:40 PM) Then where is your money come from? that's why i said that policies may change When i ask at HSBC, the old women told me i am not qualified as i didnt stay long enuf, then my friend ask "sure not" and show the lady his bank draft. The lady reply "Oh! I can help you on this matter... She just smile and said " i am sorry.." My friend and i look at each other and lol, cause we already know the bank's t&c before went there but we just nbtd and wanna test the bank moreover Natwest is more strict on overdraft for the step account. my friend got charged 38 GBP for leaving his account on overdraft for a few days |

QUOTE(kelvinbongcn @ Aug 15 2006, 11:26 AM) Yup, HSBC for international student one we need to pay GBP5 EVERY MONTH.... really not good la.. so to make it short. to get a HSBC student or international student bank account we need to stay at least 2.5-3 years in UK right? then we can open its account. unless we have so much many that can let their eye mine is international students account.. they havent charge me a single penny since october 2005 |

QUOTE(gallagher @ Jun 9 2007, 09:46 PM) When did HSBC started charging £5 a month? 2 years ago there wasn't any fee, and the old users still don't pay, only the new applicants. I'm one of their victims =( I've also read somewhere about that. I opened my account with HSBC in 2005 and haven't been charged till today. |

QUOTE I am on a O2 direct retention deal formerly from a retail deal O2 500/100 and called O2 just now and they confirmed the following: Just a heads up for people who are using 08XX number to call overseas from your O2 contract. All new retail (normal resellers like mobileshop, etc) and online (via O2 direct via phone or online) contracts right now no longer have 08XX calls taken from inclusive minutes. From 1st August at the latest (she originally said 1st July, best to assume July) all current contract customers will no longer have 08XX numbers free (except O2 CS calls) and 0870/0844/0845 will be charged with letters going out giving the 30days notice, excuse was it was never really free but on some kind of promotion. source |

QUOTE(onemilimeter @ Jul 31 2007, 01:23 AM) In UK, can we access RapidShare? Can we doing 'bit-torrent' downloading? When we reach the UK airport, will the custom check our laptop or CD or DVD? On downloading: It depends on your provider. Most ISPs allow RapidShare (and other 1-click hosters) and bit-torrent. My university halls of residence blocks bit-torrent but http downloads like RapidShare, Megaupload etc are allowed. |

QUOTE(youngkies @ Sep 19 2007, 04:25 AM) o2 was the best i would say, as the minutes can be used to call back malaysia. but not anymore very soon. I've found a new 0790xxxxxxx number that uses O2 free minutes. And it's not included in this list vodafone is ok-ok, quite expensive sometime and service ok ok only. as for 3, they have cheap plan but they locked their phone. i did write some about that in few pages in front. different telco hv different pros and cons. as to what to call back malaysia cheaply, skype is a good one for long talk. i believe most of us here use postpaid, free phone with hundreds of minutes is a good deal if you do use the minutes. else if you dont use phone, just for someone to reach you, get a prepaid then. as for prepaid, there is no expiry. you can call out as long as you have credit. |

QUOTE(azarimy @ Sep 20 2007, 03:16 AM) i'm not sure about orange's service, but virgin is using cable. malaysia did have one cable service once upon a time called megaTV. this was before astro. telewest was the few surviving cable service in the UK before virgin media bought the company, and use the technology to provide cable broadband. i'm not sure about other cable companies, as most of them only provide cable TV only. I'm sorry but Sky Broadband uses DSL technology which requires a landline other alternative broadband includes sky broadband, which uses satellite to deliver tv, phone and internet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sky_broadband |

And some feeBay sellers do not accept/use PayPal and refused to give their bank details for direct deposit but they will accept cheques.
