I'm not sure what position you will get in a law firm. But quite a few companies hire law graduates as consultant or legal advisor.
Btw, I saw one similar thread like this in here. This post has been edited by goliath: Jun 22 2006, 08:42 PM |

Why don't you just go ahead and get your CLP?

Well, getting a law degree is tough. I doubt the CLP is any more daunting than the actual 4 year degree...

That's what I heard from my friend too. The passing rate is quite low. Try to look at business firms.

If that's the case, why didn't you register yourself at an Inn in the UK? I'm sure that would've been an easier alternative.

QUOTE(Mavik @ Jun 23 2006, 05:13 PM) Law degrees are like accounting degrees in the business world. Its pretty useful info if you want to work in large corporations and also small and medium firms. Many people in MNCs have a legal/accounts backup degree or foundation. To be an advocate solicitor takes a little bit more of inherent personality. Got to have a big of big mouth factor and a bit of thickfacedness. If you work in the usual legal firms you need to know little bit of everything unless u work in a big law firm which has specialised departments then it would be beneficial if you did legal specialisms in those fields e.g. litigation, nego& arbitration, contruction, IP, tax etc. If you want to work in Malaysia but do a foreign degree you have to do CLP. There aren't any more preferred foreign Unis that dont need CLP. Even the 4 year Aussie programs that used to be exempt are no longer so. No choice. Unless u do 4 year local programme then u are exempted isnt that so? |

QUOTE(TMTANWHACKY @ Jun 23 2006, 08:54 AM) There are many Inns', some expensive, some less expensive. I know a few inns that charge less than 6k pounds. But anyways, if you're already back home, just go ahead and do the CLP man. Is there any reason as to why you don't wanna do it? Lost interest in Law already? |

If you're working your way towards your CLP, then I guess you shouldn't be too bothered about where your work, or what the job title is.
Just grab some generic banking job while you save up for your CLP. I'm sure that should suffice, and it won't make your resume look bad |

It is a norm to start at low pay. After several years of experience, you will see your pay blooming up (but of course, you have to work hard for it).

In a mid size firm salary of a 2 year experienced LA (legal asst) is about RM3k-4k. In a small firm could be less but u may hit partnership track earlier and easier maybe. My friend hit his partnership in a 2 boss firm on his 5th year as an LA with salary of RM6k and profit share of 10%.Not much but not too badlah since this way he has no liabilities. Firm only does routine contract work anyway, hardly any litigation so worth it lah. Non stress.
In my time paralegals already go RM1.8k that was 10 years ago. Wow, u mean our market for law grads so depressed ke? Seriously u can do waaaay more that be a paralegal, trust me. Find out what u enjoy or what interests you. Then find a job in tha field. Otherwise u will just hate your life. |

(they're constantly recruting for this position... look out for it if you're interested) This post has been edited by Ritz Crackers: Jun 30 2006, 08:45 PM |

Why dont u do the MAICSA exams and look into Company Secretary jobs? U even get some exemptions from exams coz of your LLB. Being COm Secretary for big companies will pay well once u have some experience. Its rather routine work but u will never run out of offers, really. ANd u can go quite high up the corporate ladder. If u get bored Corporate Reporting side esp for huge companies reporting to SC and public needs to be tracked and managed well by persons with legal and communications type background. |

as you've seen from all these posts...
having a mere LL.B is just not enough! even if you wanna skip CLP you'd still need to get some expertise in other fields ie more studies... company secretariat is a good idea if you're determine to climb that ladder... but you'd still need to get the cert... so either way you'd still be forced to some further studies no way to run |

Had the same dilema as u b4 I took my CLP. Im currently takin my CLP exam on July BUT I think I'm prob flunking it coz of WORLD CUP... Personally I think the job market for a law grad without CLP is not very good here... Many of my frens without CLP moved to sales!
