Hi guys, need some advice.
I bought m14x R1 3 years ago, and now thinking of upgrading my system..
Should i consider the new m14x or just desktop x51...?
i would like to play witcher 3 & dragon age 3 in the future with high setting and full hd....
is m14x sufficient? my r1 cant even run witcher 2 properly...

QUOTE(Aura @ Jan 23 2014, 01:39 PM) The obvious answer is no. It won't be sufficient at all. What u probably need is a laptop which has GTX 770M or 780M just to get it running at that level of detail and resolution. That's only ensuring that it can run. Smooth or not, that's another question. The best is getting a SLI capable desktop which will be able to run a lot of games smoothly. That way, u don't need to worry much. If u don't have that budget, then u can go for high end single GPU desktop PC. That works as well. Mobile gaming is still a bit underpower IMO. Thx for the advice, guess i will go for desktop then.

QUOTE(BlueBerry~ @ May 20 2014, 05:50 PM) Just wondering. Is there a point of buying straight from Alienware anymore? Before there is the custom nameplate option, but they removed that and there isn't a whole lot of customisation available. Basically none. Yea I wanna know this as well... Seems quite pointless buying on9 nowadays...

QUOTE(horns @ May 21 2014, 12:13 AM) is this about the name plate only? what do you wanna customize? recently alienware has allowed the users to customize their machines again. (in terms of common parts, not name plate). for the ODD, you can always swap the dvdrom and replace it with a hdd caddy. (compared to R4, it's much easier to replace) many still choose to get it online because of the 0-interest installment scheme. I want to customize the aurora to have killer card , but I don't see the option , is it possible to do by myself? Is it compatible ? Or any other wireless option? Thanks.

QUOTE(horns @ May 21 2014, 09:48 AM) oh the wireless part in Aurora desktop. yes for machines from Dell US there is an option for wifi (Dell Wireless 1540 802.11a/n Dual Band, High Speed Wi-Fi). afaik, it's a just plastic plate with Dell WiFi and Bluetooth daughter boards that can be secured to the inner front of the chassis, and connect to the master i/o board; and it's a .n, not .ac (it's a different form factor. i'm not sure if they offer killer wifi. don't be so obsessed about these killer wifi things. you still need to have a compatible router to make full use of it). for machines from Dell Malaysia, usually the options for customization is less than Dell US. for instance we only have the standard water cooling unit, while dell US also offers a premium copper-type. (but this doesn't mean it's a bad thing. we can still add/replace features that we want by ourselves). just bear in mind it's super easy to just DIY with better parts. (think wifi usb or pci-e wifi. all plug-and-play. the only 'incompatibility' happens when you forget to install the drivers) currently i am using asus usb-56 wifi. works fine with asus ac-66 router. (well, i don't actually use it because for a desktop i still prefer to use wired ethernet). if you wanna know more about this, putochip123 is the guy. ok ...i'm not obsessed with killer thing....just wanna the wireless to work because there is no cable here. So what are my options? Buy the part and install myself? If yes, where can i get it? And let's say I cant install myself, will a Dell personnel able to help me?

QUOTE(Aura @ May 21 2014, 12:07 PM) Just go to LYP and buy the part separately. Self installation for a wireless NIC card isn't that hard. They come with instructions anyways. It's just plug and play. If u don't like internal ones, u can opt for USB ones. The pro for using a USB one is u can shift around the receiver to get the best signal, but the con is u get to stare at ur receiver. The pro for using an internal one is u don't get to look at ur receiver and it's well integrated, but the con is u can't move ur receiver around to get the best signal cos ur desktop is rooted at the place that u decided to put. Final verdict, it's ur call. P/S: Dell personnel won't help u to install 3rd party stuff one unless u order directly from Dell but then, it's super straight forward. Plug and play. Thanks for the reply. I will opt for the internal 1... Worst case scenario I bring the desktop to shop and ask the technician to do it.... But definitely I will try my best first.

QUOTE(horns @ May 21 2014, 12:16 PM) right all i'm saying is that we have options for wifi cards that deliver decent performance in the market. the killer wifi might not work at its fullest in all environments. it still depends on the router for that. your option is simple. go for usb (it's just like a usb thumb drive with an antenna). the installation is as simple as plug in to the usb port, install driver, reboot and go. http://www.asus.com/my/Networking/USBAC56/ you can get it from lyp. sorry i can only suggest what i am using. as for the need of technical help, i believe you can call for their help if necessary. Thanks. I think I will go for the internal 1...
