Congrates on this new thread! This time its great to be a Lego fan... if you have a big money tree. sweat.gif

I saw the photos on BOM, so many people buying Lego in BV II. shocking.gif

Anyway I am now relieve that they have already put the acrylic wall around my Technic sets. Was afraid earlier that without the acrylic something would happen to them. Might pop in tomorrow to have a look at how my sets are doing there and also to see if there is anything to buy.

Almost all the technic sets there are mine. The 8880 Supercar, Unimog, 8448 Hot Rod alternate, Excavator, 8868 Air-tech Claw rig and mobile Crane MK 2 is mine. Other stuff like I mentioned earlier are my Ninjago dragons. Not able to put the Ultimate Dragon Battle Dragon since I bought it only recently due to the sale and still MISB.

Some photos I took of the sets before it went off to BVII.

Setting up the sets in the middle of the night at BVII once the table was ready. Everyone was surprised at how large the sets were compared to the table. The City size crane, train, helicopter transporter and that technic ferries wheel, VW camper is by the other Asia Brick members.

Season 1 Ninjago and the gold dragons at the front. Felt that I should being them out for this year's exhibition.

The 8448 and excavator is their second time in BVII. The rest like the unimog and the classic technic that time I still have not obtain them yet or still have not release by Lego. Below are some photos from the year 2010. That time I contributed the Crane truck, bulldozer, 8053 crane, excavator, 8448 plus many other sets which I cannot recall.

Thats my gut feel lo.  Unless Places like Parkson, Isetan, Brickboys, take more stock.  As I know TrU is their biggest stockist of maybe just consignment to widen distribution coverage.  Jusco, Metrojaya and the rest don't see them taking anymore stocks from ALJ.

So it's really up what you decide.  Me personally, am only getting selected themed sets that I really want at 30-50%.  Rest is not priority.  As we have seen so far the fools who rushed in to grabbing everything they can afford to buy @ 35% is regretting.  Sprinter all KO.  Marathon runner have to save some juice to finish the race.
*
So far from what I have observed in MV, Metrojaya, Robinson and Jusco seem to have taken less Lego stock compared to previous year. It as if they know they cannot clear the stock because it is so darn expensive. Worst of all, these big retailers are selling the brick clones such as Best-Lock. Jusco has started selling Star Diamond sets and if those Star Diamond sets sell better than Lego then you can bet Jusco will order less of Lego and order more of the clones. I know at one time Jusco never stock any Transformers and instead got sell TF clones sweat.gif If they can refuse to buy even from a big corporation from Hasbro, they can easily turn down Lego if Lego don't offer them a good deal.

As for the 'fools' who bought during the Empire sale, so far I have no regrets yet to my purchase. Maybe coz too used to seeing expensive Lego price so seeing a discount on a highly sought after item = a must buy.

This is exactly the frustration we have with ALJ and I'm glad to see them go!  vmad.gif

I just don't get why they want to manipulate the market, if stocks are moving fast isn't it good for business?

Look at the 7498 Police Station for example, initially they only stock a few sets at BV2. 1-2 weeks later re-stock more sets and now stagnant sales. Then they made it available on Groupon with better discount. Sales through Groupon has been great so it means ALJ do have many sets of 7498 in their warehouse!! I ask everyone here, prior to this ALJ bye bye sales how often do you see 7498 at the shops? And if you do see them at the shops, have you ever seen more than 5 sets on the shelves?

I just don't get why ALJ loves to keep their stocks in the warehouse and create an artificial shortage...

Good riddance to them!
Yes, must tahan and save extra bullets for the big discounts that is sure to come... They are running out of time..

Actually, I chit chat with one of the ALJ staff few weeks back and he/she let it slipped that ALJ may dump prices later so the credibility of the rumoured 70% sales may be true. nod.gif

We should all stop buying now. Boycott the sales and force their hand to improve the discounts. If their sales are good they may have a re-think on giving more discounts.

My crazy guess or dream or whatever you wanna call it:- ALJ closing down warehouse clearance sale! We go raid their warehouse! rclxm9.gif  rclxms.gif
Kinda harsh to call people "fools" leh... icon_rolleyes.gif
Well, I see those resellers as a business and getting stuck with those stocks is a business risk they have to deal with right now... Greed doesn't pay.
*
The Groupon sales already more than 500! Do ALJ really have 500 police stations in the warehouse all sitting there doing nothing?@!#?! If so then it simply boggles my mind on why they are sitting on these stock for so long. The set 7498 came out in 2011 if I am not wrong, plus there is a new one coming out next year. Then if you are a franchise holder from Lego, I'm sure you have minimum to buy and sell? I'm sure every year got a minimum amount of stock to order etc. Why didn't they just unload it all at BVII or Empire I can never see why.

As for why they are no more than a certain number of stock on the shelf, I think it is because it is so expensive those big retailers dare not order too many of the same stock, afraid cannot sell. TRU maybe can stock more, but this big set is a slow mover and will take up valuable shelf space. I do not think places like Jusco, Parkson, Robinson, Metrojaya etc can stock so many since they sell many other stuff than toys. Then it is so #$#$ expensive until some stores have to put them in a cabinet or in a high place like in Jusco! Also you see TRU put those anti-theft gadgets around the large sets. Not only for this police station, but for high price items like Technic flagships, Istana Jabba, An Unexpected Gathering, Olivia's House etc all suffer the same problem. This happens when you have a super dooper overpriced set where even the retailers you are selling to have doubts that these sets can even sell! If TRU, Jusco, Parkson et al all doubt you can sell at such super dooper expensive price will they even try to stock your product?

What I really want to see is ALJ dumping the 2nd half 2013 stock. I was told that the 2nd half of 2013 sets cannot have sales coz need to return to Lego. However as BBT has proven, they already have discount for some 2nd half 2013 sets like the City Cargo sets, Star Wars sets (AT-TE, Jabba's Sale Barge, E-Wing etc) and 49008. So it only be a matter of time before the 2nd half 2013 sets are let loose.

As for me, I my plan is to spend the TRU vouchers maybe by the end of this month and buy nothing more! Hope the rumors of the great Lego warehouse sale will come true!

Of course they are the MAIN culprits as they are the authorities which set the benchmark 35% 50% 40% off and prices is based on their SRP.  Initially YES is to maximize profit.  But now come Jan 2014, how much can they control if they got that much stock left in their inventory and no one is taking up any stocks?

This is a Global initiative that is just fortunately working to Malaysian LEGO consumers advantage.  Not to get rid of ALJ per say.  Lego has Legoland (M) to deal with.  I mean besides the theme park, they cannot have visitors going there to find out that the other attraction going to Legoland is to experience the LEGO BigShop and find out is no different going to any retail outlet.  Already the Entrance Fee to go into Legoland cost quite a bit.

Also they have to "take care" of our parallel importers.  Realize Lego.com customer support don't support us anymore like for lost parts etc?
*
You are right about the problem in Legoland. I raised this issue even before LLM opened; how on earth are they going to make a profit and sell sets at the price they are selling now? There is nothing worth buying in Legoland at all except maybe for the Legoland exclusives like magnets, key chains etc. If you are a Singaporean, they are so many Lego exclusive stores that have a better variety and prices. Going to those exclusives stores does not require to pay toll, petrol etc to get over to Legoland, if you even have a car to haul in the 1st place. Hell, since the Singapore Dollar is so powerful maybe can even buy from overseas and ship it to Singapore! Since Singapore is a port city I'm sure shipping is not expensive and their Kastam is easier to deal with than our Kastam! If they cannot even attract Singaporeans, how do they expect to attract Malaysian who does not have the spending power of Singaporeans?

Then for AFOL like me, LLM is not an attractive place to buy sets since it is so far from KL, the ticket price is expensive, the prices are retail prices and the selection is no match to some of our Tun Tan Sris here. To me Big Shop is no different than BBT. Atleast BBT give you membership discount.

Last month I was at LLM due to a company trip. The Big Shop berlambak with stock but from the looks of it not really moving. Some of the boxes of the modular buildings looks like it has been handled many times. There was even 1 49000 F1 racer which I think was sold at the City shop where the box art already become faint because it is too long exposed to the sun (the shop is fully opened).
