are you a freshie or someone with experience? If you're a freshie, you'll likely only get around 3+k per month.

U sure freshie gets 3-4k monthly in a bank for Economist position locally?  shocking.gif My cousin is getting RM3.2k as fresh grad, but thats due to he came from LSE and the Hiring Manager is a far away relative.

Most graduate trainees get paid that amount in the top banks. Yes, they do graduate from universities like LSE, imperial etc. I dont think you can become an economist immediately without prior experience but you can get an assistant role if you're are freshie. It will be easier if you have connections.

If you start out as an economist in khazanah, your pay should start above 4k. But they recruit ivy league people.

Thanks for the info. How about those with experience?
I am not a fresh graduate. I have more than 3.5 years of work experience as a research analyst.

Can you provide the details again? It has been a while.

Sure. I was wondering about the salary for an experienced economist position in a local bank. Thanks for your prompt response.

With 3 years analyst experience.... I'm assuming sell side. I guess you can expect 5k-8k. Range is wide because it depends on the bank...

RM2.5-RM3k maybe? but its the bonus tats the cherry..

for a lot of investment banking grads, they only see big bonuses after year 3. Local banks often offer low base and try to compensate you through bonus too so that they can reduce your total comp package when market is not doing well. The industry is a lot less rosy than what a lot of people think.

Depends also on what you do during your free time. If you've got nothing better to do and have no family obligation. The opportunity cost of those hours are pratically 0, so might as well earn more.
