You might need to see whether there are any programs in conflict with ZA. I have a feeling that there might be a program that is being pesky. If not, you might need to reformat your com/ either that, or your RAM might have a problem(which I doubt).

That's one of the reason why they have trial version. A version for u to check whether their product conflicts with others in the same PC environment...

Maybe you might need to read up and see for conflicts. Can't help you mean while, still stuck with my loads of school projects... SPM some more. Will try to help you when free. I never had a problem with Kaspersky 6.0 with ZA. Maybe configuration conflict?? Might happen though...

try this, got from zone alarm forum

Please do the following. If any of the steps below do not apply to you, or you are unable to perform the function listed, please CONTINUE to the next step.
Open the ZoneAlarm program, go to the OVERVIEW -> PREFERENCES tab, and make sure the Load At Startup box is UNchecked. Close the program, then right-click on the ZA icon and select Shutdown.
REBOOT.
You should now have no ZoneAlarm processes running on your system.
Now click Start -> Programs -> Zone Labs -> Uninstall. Be sure to say YES to the security check.

WARNING - Do NOT run the ZoneAlarm Uninstall program while in Safe Mode. The program may not be able to make the proper registry changes in Safe Mode, thus generating errors after a reboot.

REBOOT.

To make sure that you can see the ZoneAlarm Plus/Pro system files, if they are still on your computer:
a. Right-click on Start, then left-click on Explore. When the Windows Explorer panel appears:
- In Windows 95, 98: Click View>Options (in Windows 98, this will be called "Folder Options"). Click the "View" tab, then click the "Show all files" radio button.
- In Windows ME, XP, 2000: Click Tools>Folder Options. Click the "View" tab, then click the "Show hidden files and folders" radio button.

b. Make sure you also UNcheck the box to "Hide Protected Operating System Files" if you have one.
c. When searching, be sure it searches ALL hidden files and folders.
d. Click OK.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Making modifications to system files may disable crucial functions of your Windows operating system. We strongly suggest re-enabling the "Hide files and folders" feature once all ZoneAlarm files have been removed.

Click on Start, then Search or Find, and select Files. Make sure that the location box is set to search your local hard drive (usually C smile.gif or All Local Drives.

Type the following exactly - delete any folders found:
zonelabs
"zone labs"
"Internet logs"

Type the following exactly - delete any files found in \Windows or any subfolder below it, or in your \Temp folder):

vsconfig.xml
vsdata.dll
vsdata95.vxd
vsdatant.sys
vsmon.*
vsmonapi.dll
vsnetutils.dll
vspubapi.dll
zaplus.*
zapro.*
zlparser.dll
zonealarm.exe
zoneband.dll

vsutil.dll (please right-click, Properties -> Version to be sure it is a ZA file. Do NOT delete this file unless it is a Zone Labs file!)

Type the following exactly - delete any files found in any folder with "Programs" in the pathname):

zapro
zonealarm
"zonealarm pro"

Make sure your Recycle Bin is empty (right-click and select Empty).
REBOOT

NOTE: If you received an error message upon deleting the files, or if the original programs remain in the Programs list, or if the problem persists after this, removing the files in Safe Mode will allow you to delete the files properly. Click Start, Help, and search for "SAFE MODE" for information specific to your system.

Now you should be able to get a clean install of the new version. Be sure to NOT use the old settings as this can cause further difficulties if the database is corrupt.

UnCleHenG, I believe GameSky mentioned that ZA crashes. If so,you cant even open ZA safely without the OS going bong-kers. I would suggest using Spybot or some program that can show the registrty for start up programs and remove the ZA entry from there like Vsmon and so on. Then only proceed with the other removing operations.

After downloading the latest version of ZA pro, it prevented me from installing games and other software on my notebook. At first I thought my new notebook's combo dvd was damaged because whenever I inserted the CD/DVD into it the notebook will hang til I remove the CD/DVD. Then only after I shut down ZA did my CD/DVDs work fine. vmad.gif

I completely dump ZA. Used to have ZA with Kaspersky combo but after upgrading to 6.5, my pc auto restart every 3 minutes. I tot theres something wrong with my hardware, took my pc for checkup and found nothing wrong. Then I notice theres a pop up (0.5 second) before my pc auto restart. Uninstall ZA and everything is fine. So no more ZA for me. Stick with KIS for now.

Outpost is another firewall. It is quite good but is no simplicity program. I used ZA because my other family members are using the computer. They definitely will get confused... So, leave it with ZA. Sigh...

I've had problems with ZoneAlarm 6.5.731 as well.

Specifically, TrueVector has shut down on two different occasions while utorrent was on. I'm not certain about this but it may have something to do with utorrent's DHT Network feature.

Try unchecking "Enable DHT Network", "Enable DHT for new torrents" and "Enable Peer Exchange" (Preferences->BitTorrent) and uncheck "Enable DHT" for individual torrents in utorrent. I haven't done too much testing but disabling those seem to prevent the problem recurring.

Previous versions have been well-behaved (and I've been using ZoneAlarm for a few years now) so I wouldn't write off ZoneAlarm just yet.

I would strongly recommend monitoring the program (enable ZoneAlarm alerts, logs, watch the list of programs with access [Program Control->Programs], etc.) until the next update.

Quite good advice... But then I use Azureus (once in a blue moon, can't do torrenting on dial-up ler...), and there was no problem. My computer now is running fine. I didn't bother to update my ZA either. I am waiting until the coast clear sign from users first, can;t be a tester anymore, SPM coming... sigh, exams...

I've just had my third TrueVector shutdown. Apparently the problem is not simply utorrent's DHT Network feature.

I'm going to wait for the next update from ZoneAlarm or uTorrent before testing further. In the meantime, no more torrents for me.

You can't say exactly unless you've seen the source code and found the conflict... (You know, we can definitely never have a chance to see ZA's source code). So, let's hope that this issues settles fast... sigh

I guess the solution in your case is to simply stop waking up.

Kidding.

Upon further testing, I think I may have another workaround. I've limited the number of connections (global and per torrent) to 100 in uTorrent, and used the "Automatic Deny" option in ZoneAlarm's Game Mode (right-click on the ZoneAlarm icon in the system tray) when uTorrent is downloading/uploading.

Since doing this, I haven't had a TrueVector crash in 20-plus hours of using uTorrent over the course of a week. It's too soon to say if I've managed to isolate the problem but hope springs eternal.

I have a feeling ZoneAlarm 6.5.731 (unlike previous versions) has trouble handling too many connections. I would appreciate it if other users would try this workaround with other BitTorrent clients and report back if it works.

Maybe ZA is afraid rthat having too may connections might be a Leak Test case or Port Scan. Frankly, ZA should announced their alterations and reasons. Anybody using the latest update? Any problems to date?

The latest version 6.5.737.000 is still messed up for me. Long bootup/shut down time + blocked site list gets deleted after each reboot. The Free version seems fine though.

ZA, Resource hogger, well, not really that bad yet.. Though, what version and license of ZA you using?

svchost.exe, in my opinion is NOT related to ZA. It is suppose to be about Automatic Updates from MS. Please check for me. Thanks.

the new versions seems makes your pc startup a bit slow...and I doesn't use ZA anymore, unless they manage to reduce the resource usage...

Currently using Outpost Firewall

I have not yet tested it, but a clean installation of Zone Alarm contains the program :

C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninstexe"

SlyFox's (succesful!) instructions used this program with the /clean suffix:

Change it to:

"C:\Program Files\Zone Labs\ZoneAlarm\zauninst.exe" /clean

maybe if this zauninstallexe program is copied from a machine that has ZA correctly installed, it would uninstall the bad installation??

Since my own ZA is now reinstalled successfully I can't test this but will put it on a CD or memory stick and try it out next time a customer has this problem.

OK. I know you problem now. It states something like missing MSVB(watever) .dll and it can't run right? Well, just installing and I already faced problems. Try outsourcing for other servers that has ZA setup files. I am quite afraid that your setup file is corrupted.

I cant remember but i know it keeps saying some file is in use. Bah, I guess this is a good time for me to try new firewalls. Currently trying Outpost. Nice interface but can be complicated to use at times. rclxub.gif

All the same... It is something buggy about ZA system... Anyway, I can gurantee 6.1 is perfect... Haven't met a problem yet.

Outpost--complicated. LOL. That is why I don't use it. No time to configure this and that. LOL.

Did you stop the service then restart the service at Administrator Tools (Control Panel) ? If so, something is wrong with your installation setup file. Cheers.
