Just noticed about the Transformers Expo. Dang almost miss it. Anyone gone there? Any good? Worth the bucks?
Went there last Saturday. Here are some run downs on what they have and my review/opinion :Part 1 - Transformers Toy Showcase : A very impressive collection of TF toys from G1 till date. Almost 95% of the whole collection are there (some are not display due to space constraint) Neatly display in show cases with explanation of their origins. Highly recommended
Part 2 - Bumblebee Camaro display : The actual replica of the Camaro SS use in the movie on display for photo sesssion. Too bad they don't allow you to go in to the driver seat. Mildly recommended.
Part 3 - General Transformers artwork gallery : Some pretty nifty artwork and cut-outs for you to take picture including some which I have never come across. Mildly recommended.
Part 4 - 3D Experience : Basically just watching a documentary of the Transformers history on a Toshiba TV which is part of the sponsors. It's a Toshiba TV promotion in disguise if you ask me. Not really recommended but you can't skip it since it is part of the tour.
Part 5 - Animated Light Show Projection : A very cool animated light show projection showing animations of Optimus Prime head evolving from G1 throughout generations to the TF Prime design (So cool that we stayed and watch 2 times
Part 6 - Augmented Reality : Through the wonders of modern technology you can now dance with Kreon Optimus Prime & Bumblebee and take picture standing beside Autobots or Decepticons via the AR camera & TV display. Photos taken will be uploaded to the TF Expo official webpage. Kids will love it. Mildly recommended.
Part 7 - Life size replica of movie Optimus Prime & Bumblebee : Photo session with the 1:1 scale OP & BB. The replica statues are very highly detail and look very grand when standing beside it. Highly reocmmended.
Part 9 - Kid's Activity Corner - Activity section with interactive activities and contest. There's a cosplay Kreo OP/BB running around entertaining guests which is very cute
Part 10 - Merchandise and Food : A whole section dedicated to selling stuff. Basically they are selling caps, T-shirts, kids shoes and some "not-so-popular" TF toys at regular prices. Food prices are... you know... unless you are really hungry
... and that concludes the tour. Forgot to mention that the Camaro & replica statues are barricaded due to the area is restricted for the professional photo service. You'll get a high quality 6R printout for a fee of RM30. Taking photos outside the barricade is free tough. You'll also get discount food voucher if you purchase merchandise in the expo.
So there you have it. It's not the best exhibition which I have been to but for what it's worth it's non the less a very good experience. Some of the sections need a lot of improvements such as space management as there are too many unused spaces at the replica display area. Another section will be the merchandising but I can't really blame them since I heard Hasbro is just providing the license and some minor sponsorship for the expo. Most of it are funded by the organizers themselves.
All in all I have to say I'm really proud of the organizers effort in to making this expo as good as possible under the circumstances in lack of sponsorship. Thumbs up guys
Is it worth your while to pay the Expo a visit ? I'll leave it to you guys to decide. I went there solely with the intention to support the local TF scene but was pleasantly surprise of what they are able to achieve at such a grand scale.
See you there...
