I knew some people who lost plenty of money during 98 crisis.  One went bankrupt, and never goes back up until today.  He lost his factory, cars, etc.  If I am not mistaken, he invested in properties.

The other one actually got billed out by family, as he lost too much money in stock market playing margin in 98.  He told me that he wasn't in any mood to work at all during the good time, as he could make hundreds of thousands in days. He was in construction lines.  He said on those days, developers never ask about your prices, they just ask when can you start and whether you have manpower.

A friend bought a house at that time for investment, and left vacant for many yrs.  Only past few years, she managed to sell the house with price she felt ok.

I dun think Malaysia was affected much in 2008.  At least not that I could feel.  I think share market got affected more in 2008.  I think I could only remember NPL was bad, and bank shares are very cheap.  But somehow, nobody dared to buy.

Regardless how bad or good the economic climate is, there is always people going bankrupt, others strike it rich. I believe in individual luck. Of course, during boom time, chances of making it slightly better la.. moneyflies.gif

That article is fairly correct - a lot of asians buy houses the same way people bought gold, believing it to be a good way to store value, even when there's no practical use for it (e.g no tenants, no occupancy) as the price 'will never come down'.

It's best to buy what, in your opinion? mega_shok.gif

No i dont think so. Why do u say that? You dont believe in holding the cash and carefully seek out your own opportunities? You need to meet the right people in the real world bro.
*

Very soon, I promise, I'll seek out the right ppl in d real world. Currently am on vacation. Got some time. Sorry I ask so many stupid questions. Glad I did though. Learned quite a bit since I joined. Nice community! thumbup.gif

Properties bought with loans belong to banks! nod.gif At one time, Donald Trump, on verge of bankruptcy commented even beggars are better off than him! whistling.gif

I think property market will stagnate next year. Just look see look see. See got any dead chicken to pick or not. No need kan jeong. Easy does it. Got money, go share market lo. Faster money, no need hold for years. Very Long time u know, 6 years! Got kid also go to school oledi.

This is the first time over the years, I feel pessimistic over the property market in Malaysia.

I'm most curious, why the average Malaysians die die must own a property instead of comfortable with renting . Renting not a bad option actually. Don't like the place, can simply move out. Can upgrade residence without needing to worry about assessment, rpgt, maintenance fee etc etc... yawn.gif

When in doubt, always heed the old saw, "bulls make money, bears make money, pigs get slaughtered." That means don't get greedy -- lest you be the one left holding the bag when the bubble pops.
If always can catch ourselves on time, no need to buy insurance lol? What goes up, must come down? whistling.gif That's life. Also, property/stock market. See got the luck or not lol. thumbup.gif The Chinese like to say, a fool also has a fool's luck! Nothing to do with skills sometimes. Anyway, I think the stock market will fall prior to the property market. cool.gif Listen closely to the pulse of the share market next year?

If doomsday on the way, stock market will be d 1st 2 crash. Then only property market. If like that, property can still buy mah for long term investment. After the storm is over, sell! What do you guys think?

Please understand this our entire economy doesn't depends on properties alone,  there r many other sectors.
Stock market not necessary reflect the economy,  as money can be printed without gold guaranteed.
Other sectors crash will result property crash but when property crash other sectors may not.
Can be very very long, question is do you have the patience to wait, maybe can keep the house & pass to children like our grandfather. ..lol

Buy gold bar keep under your bed, no maintenance, can cash in fast, can even cabut with it, better than house. .wakakaka.
*

You know I read somewhere on the net, the Indian ladies own the most gold in the world ( cos it''s their dowry). Semua jejaka belum berumahtangga, dengar tu? wink.gif You guys know what to do le when want to own gold, but no $! I always give out very good tips one! flex.gif

Back to your point on buying gold - gold ( if a lot) so damn heavy, how to get pass custom in the even u cabut? cool2.gif
Any better means to invest?

I read something about it sometime back. Sounds like not a valid tender or some parties banned it or something. Sudah lupa! So, tell us, how it works? Legal tender everywhere or not? If the local economy collapse, it'd survive d crash?

If no thread open up about it yet, maybe one of u guys should?

Because people keep on buying & buying,  same senario in Japan 20 years ago building highway which no one use, now u know China endless economy growth come from, I see quite a few flipper feel unhappy when govt take measure to cool down the market,  I bet they like to see this in Malaysia ..sigh

The 2016 predictions just could be very well come true, slow, stagnant & crash.
*
I read flippers in china r cash buyers. Their problem diff. for ours. Our ppl mostly on loans. Their problem is money stranded in vacant no one wants / no one can afford properties ( migrants for rural areas where got money to buy usD100k a piece condo? ). Wealthy cash flippers in Malaysia can take lessons from china...... hmm.gif Buildings not occupied for long period of time can literally rot before our eyes. blink.gif
