Want to know how 2 get better sound in car.
Firstly. Car is Proton Sawi with stock 4 speakers and stock clarion HU.

I know usually change HU will get better sound. I think the stock HU is not good.
But since you guys know the HU more like "built in" and i dont feel like changing it, what can do to make sound better?

1. add amp only? (heard that it works like a PC sound card)
2. change speakers will make a difference? even if still using stock HU
3. add pre-amp? what is pre-amp for?

so dear SIFUs, what are ur advice.

budget upgrade nothing more than rm300.

if budget is none of concern, then add good amp, add good speakers, add good cables, add good sound insulation, then add good head unit...

first step, a good component set...

second step, a good 4 channel amp...

third step, a good sub in a custom made enclosure...

then a good HU... mayb with a built in active crossover... if you got the budget... if not a external ones will be good too...

then a monoblock... for your sub so tht you can run 2-way active @ front...

then Sound insulation...

then change cables...

then 3-way active... but dun go for this step if you dunno how to tune your system well....

cheers....

can u explain what is a "component set"? does this refer to "tweeter, mid speaker and crossover"? so means need to install tweeter, replace stock speaker (for mid purpose), and install crossover? this whole thing needs amp as well right?

tweeter, crossover, mid bass speaker = component set, and normally come with one set.

It can be run without amp and stock HU, (depend, still better ask pro which component set suit your HU).

for TS, better sound is depend how you define?

In ICE, good sound are very depend on HU, speaker, amp, sound insulation, setup and installation. Each has it own contribution.

A component set definitely give you certain slightly better sound in the extend of sound staging. High freq and mid/low freq are separated.

High freq sound from tweeter, normally on dashboard or pillar, sound like vocal, high freq music instrument.
mid/low freq sound from mid bass, normally on door panel.

This setup allow you to enjoy vocal .. like the singer sing in front of you.

My car is using stock HU, and a component set only. Good enough for me.

So at the end it is still depend on what you want and how much you afford. and please don't go for cap ayam stuff. No money than save more. Also you can consider 2nd hand good stuff.

for some ppl,
-stock HU, stock speaker = good
-stock HU, component set = good
-stock HU, component set, amp = good
-stock HU, component set, amp, 2 layers sound insulation = good
-stock HU, component set, amp, 3 layers sound insulation = good
-branded HU, component set, amp, 3 layers sound insulation = good
- etc..

lol, so many combinations smile.gif

Above explanation are very layman, and non pro.

Can't tell you how many percent, as B line doesn't come with front speaker.

at least got staging, sound is clear, pop, rock, tiesto, olivia ong all ok. the drawback is the door panel can't take heavy bass.

Sound proof on door panel & $$$ are needed for this issue.. lol smile.gif
