Yes, you do have a chance..But u need to continuously highlight this to your boss and try finding the opportunity by yourself. It depends on your boss too. If he/she is supportive, then it will be easy..i have passed my SI and medical check up. now waiting for offer letter

I was in non-technical work for 3 years before I changed to engineering even though I did highlight my preference since my first day of work. So I had a late start but eventually everything's ok.
