This is not the correct place for you to ask this kind of questions. Half of forumer are smokers, and half of them may get offended for your statement of smoking as social problem. Although youth are define as 13 to 40, but almost anyone above 18 who start working or entering college would deny themselves as youth, but adult.
People smoke because of several reasons, relieve stress, staying awake. Reliving stress is appropriately apply to working people, who has high responsibility, professional people, students. Staying awake would apply to long working hour people, student studying overnight, lawyer, architect.
IMO, those are secondary reason, for most people that is. But primary reason is they are addicted. If you sit down for a meal at any place, you'll see smoker right after their meal. Reason? The food not nice, so they were struggling to finish up the meal, and need to relieve themselves from those stressful meal? Addiction.
Smoking only post as a social problem for people who smoke frequently, or addiction. A packet of 14s cigaratte cost RM 5 somthing, 1-2 days for frequent smoker. simple maths would get you about RM 100 per month for cigarattes. For youth who can't afford it, they may find ways to get their hands onto it. Treatening friends, steal, cheat.
That is for youth who cant afford it. For working people, it's not so much of a problem. Youth problem only, only problematic youth. No offence cockerish.
I dont smoke, simply because it will deteriote my health. IMO, smoking won't solve my problem either, same goes to crying won't help the girls. I never try a cigaratte before, so i can't tell how the smoke flowing into our lungs, and how relieving it is. I heard it's calming, especially for army who are prepared for war.
