dreamcast's graphics can beat the crap out of the PS2 anytime....just compare both console's anti-aliasing capabilties and u'll see...
blame it on Sega's n00b management and marketing skillz for bringing the Dreamcast down. |

QUOTE(Mgsrulz @ Jul 20 2006, 01:04 AM) OT abit. The game is only 3 discs, but there are 4th discs which contain extras.dude, how many discs does shenmue have? 3 or 4? i only have 3 discs, but i remember there having a fourth disc Quote from Wikipedia: QUOTE NTSC and PAL editions of Shenmue included a feature not available in the original Japanese release. Accessible on a special fourth disc, Passport is a supporting application of sorts that greatly enhances the Shenmue experience. The Theater option allows players to view FMV Video sequences they have unlocked in the main game, while the Music option works in the same way but with unlocked tracks from the game's soundtrack. In addition, the Information section allows new players to learn more about the various aspects of Shenmue gameplay. Several of the game's main characters appear in pre-rendered sequences to talk through a variety of elements from Shenmue including Mini-Games, Magic Weather System, Free Battle and several others. These sequences are fully interactive, allowing players to interuppt the preset camera movements and take control of all camera movement. Many of these tutorial-style sequences were used as Technical Demo's and shown at various events, such as E3, prior to the game's release. Passport also utilises the Dreamcast's internet connectivity. The Shenmue World feature contained highly detailed information about all aspects of the Shenmue world (i.e. Locations and Characters), and it also hosted an online manual. Furthermore, Shenmue World also allowed players to upload thier scores from the playable Arcade games found in Shenmue and to compete in the worldwide rankings board. Downloads, including Shenmue-themed VMU Icons and in-game collectable items (such as toy capsules), could be obtained through Shenmue World, with several of them requiring some kind of item trade. Via loading thier saved games, players could also use this feature of Passport to view detailed information about thier data - from total hours of play, to frequency of Mini-Game plays, to the number of Cola drink purchases. As of April 1, 2002, all Online features of Passport were discontinued. [1] This was due to the cancellation of all Sega Dreamcast production, which also saw the closing of the systems dedicated ISP Dreamarena (for Europe) and SegaNet (for North America). The earlier batch of Dreamcast games really show off what kind of power next-gen systems were capable of. I remember how seeing Virtua Fighter 3 run on the Model 3 arcade board in 1996, and thinking, "No way can a console replicate these kind of graphics".
Until I learned of the Dreamcast. 60fps, multitextured, high-poly count graphics was the high watermark that the Dreamcast set with games like Virtua Fighter 3 Team Battle, Virtual On: Oratario Tangram, and of course, Soul Calibur. Later consoles like the Xbox, Gamecube and Playstation2 were capable of doing more stuff faster, better. But the Dreamcast did it first, and that remains true, regardless of your loyalty to a particular console. I can almost weep tears of joy as I remember how cool the Dreamcast was. All the memories, all the games. Dreamcast easily ranks among one of my favourite gaming consoles ever. |

I thought that the DC had a really stellar lineup, I mean they had games like Shenmue, Powerstone, Tech Romancer, Soul Calibur, all of which we have never really seen before the DC. It was sad to see some of the better games die with the console.

But it makes up in raw performance in terms of polygons per sec. Dreamcast can't process graphics as fast as the PS2 due to its inferior Power-VR chip. but it produces some of the best looking games in its time coz of its full screen AA, and will still be able to challenge the PS2 now. if 3DFX just shut up and quietly manufacture for the Dreamcast, both 3DFX and Dreamcast will still be alive today. another dumb idea for Sega was to include the dumb GD-ROM instead of a DVD-ROM. if the DVD-ROM was chosen instead, the PS2 wun be where it is now. scary experiences from its previous Sega Saturn also drove big publshers away (eg. EA). that's why i blame the management of Sega for screwing things up. btw, u can't compare the graphics of 2 different generations of VF, especially when VF4 came out way later than VF3 (and on different platforms). graphical improvements r bound to happen. |

There are quite a few games that look better on Dreamcast than on PS2. Dead Or Alive 2, Ferrari F355 Challenge, Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Grandia II, even Capcom Vs SNK 2. The problem is mostly due to the PS2's lack of anti-aliasing compared to the Dreamcast.
Certain games, like Dead Or Alive 2 and Capcom Vs SNK 2, despite being released simultaneously on Dreamcast and PS2, clearly look better on Dreamcast. It probably has something to do with the NAOMI arcade board, which powers the aforementioned games, which, incidentally, is a souped up Dreamcast. Others, like Grandia II and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, are simply ports of existing Dreamcast games, which may or may not be a good idea. Grandia II on Dreamcast had very good textures, thanks to the Dreamcast's massive texture memory. The PS2 version, on the other hand, ended up being a muddy port, coupled with the classic PS2 "jaggies". Needless to say, this is a bad port job. On the other hand, RE:CVX, enjoyed an upgrade, thanks to some increased polygon count, better lighting, enhanced sound, and MPEG2-quality video. This is an example of how a game can be made better when porting from another system. |

QUOTE(Robert @ Jul 28 2006, 07:40 PM) # of bits is irrelevant. I think the DC is the last console that use the "bit" marketing gimmick.XBOX is a 32-bit console. It owns all the 128-bit and 64-bit consoles. Having a couple extra registers in ur CPU doesn't do nuts really, if the rest of the system isn't up to it, except it can directly address hundres of terabytes of RAM...which we won't see oh maybe in another 100 years in a console...pointless really. |

when fighting Melfice for the 1st time... he supposed to hurt Ryudo to some extend....then only can continue story... but my Ryudo is just too strong... all hits only get ZERO!!! so stucked there then i found another way to over come it.... which is to get ryudo poisoned by other monster 1st before fighting him... then only can go through.. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by daruma: Aug 18 2006, 11:14 AM |

I felt like talking about some of the "cooler" Dreamcast games from back in the day. Today, the game in focus is Tech Romancer, also known as Choukousenki KIKAIOH!!!!!!!!!
Fighting game fans may know of the game Cyberbots, released only in Japan for arcade, Saturn and Playstation. I only played the game in small doses, but I remembered the character Jin Saotome and his mecha, Blodia. When I heard that a follow-up to Cyberbots was released, I was excited. But when I heard that the game will be released on Dreamcast? w00t! Must-have, baby! Anyway, the game is a parody on popular mecha animes in Japan. If you're a big fan of mecha, you should recognize most of the mecha the game parodies. There's the Mazinger, Macross, heck, even Evangelion/Ultraman. Well, technically Ultraman is more of a super sentai character, but just bear with me. Tech Romancer is a case study in too much flash, not enough substance. But what a flash it is! Tech Romancer is so over-the-top in its ridiculousness, it's almost too cool. From the graphical effects, super attacks, and the final attack, this game manages to capture the excitement of watching a mecha show. Witness G. Kaiser's final attack for an example of cheesy 80s anime. (God, I feel old) For now, take a look at G. Kaiser's loading screen. If that doesn't spell mecha anime show, I don't know what does. I'll probably test out Tech Romancer again one of these days. More Dreamcast coolness coming up! Attached thumbnail(s) |

I loved Tech Romancer. It's just so cool to be playing all those super robots. If you're a fan of super robot shows, you'll surely recognise a lot of the parodies/references.
Capcom games on the DC are so memorable. Tech Romancer, Powerstone 1 & 2, Rival Schools 1 & 2..... all so great. |

well i had one many years back then a friend fried my power and then i managed to get a 2nd unit from someone here in LYN. i got it at quite a deal as he wanted to dispose of it quick. there are now CDRs that fit up to 800mbs that can be used to burn but has anyone tried them? im actually looking for DC shooters like Ikaruga, anyone? |

The CD-Rs work. I have tried it. However, some games are too big to fit in them such as D2. You can find a torrent for Ikaruga. Originals are hard to find nowadays.

QUOTE(kersing @ Apr 25 2007, 03:12 PM) i have downloaded tokyo xtreme racer 1 & 2 ....sega gt, i have no idea how to burn them in cdr so that i can play it thru my dreamcast Easy, usually those games are in CDI format right? Just download the demo of Alcohol 120% at their website, and if you have a burner and a few blank CDs you're all ready to go. Just played Under Defeat and Triggerheart Exelica. Under Defeat is frickin tough, under their Easy Mode I'm already feeling the pinch of avoiding tons of bullets and rockets targeted at me Triggerheart Exelica is the complete opposite of Under Defeat. I feel the game tends to be a little slow, which gives the player time to hook onto the enemy planes and ships to fling them back. Backgrounds aren't that nice, either. Nevertheless, it's quite a good game, one of the first shmups I've played on the DC. Oh and don't forget about the loli girls This post has been edited by colinwong89: Apr 26 2007, 03:21 AM |

Just bought a Shenmue and Shenmue 2 from PA last week, both JAP version.
Because of my US ver. DC,so i need to use a boot disc to load these 2 games. When i'm trying to enjoy my games,i faced some problems then. First, after i used the Utopia Boot Disc to load my JAP ver.Shenmue, it seems like it just can't load the game, the load process stuck when it reach 100%. Before this,i've try with my fren's Shenmue too. JAP limited ver. as wat i have, but also met the same problems. Last time i thought it was the Disc's problems, thats why i never care about it. But just never realize that i will meet the same problems again, with the different Disc, same game, same console. But the most ridiculous is,my DC just work great with other games. So,just wanna ask,do any bro here knows how to solve the problems? ![]() this is my JAP ver. of Shenmue Chapter 1: Yokosuka,it just won't work on my US DC.Although i have change my Utopia Boot CD from v1.1 to v1.2. The next problem is about the DC VGA BOX,i have try to connect my VGA BOX to my monitor, and trying to run my Shenmue 2 and Power Stone 2 on it.When i start the games,i can just hear the sound but the screen is totally dark, nothing i can see.As i know, these 2 games are definitely work with VGA BOX(it state on the back cover),but i just don't understand why could this happened on me,and i have checked already, the VGA BOX is definitely function,no problems at all. ![]() ![]() my Shenmue 2 and Power Stone 2,it just won't display anything when i connect it from VGA BOX to my monitor, but i can still hear the sound. If any bro knows how to solve these problems, hope u can kindly let me know about it,thx QUOTE(-Panadol- @ Jan 29 2007, 09:54 AM) Selling off some ori DC games: Hi bro,how much are u going to sell ur HOD 2 and Zombie Revenge, and may i know hows the conditions of ur franchises?House of the Dead 2 (+2 Light Guns), Virtua Striker 2, Zombie Revenge, Sega GT Homologation, Frame Gride, Soul Calibur, Phantasy Star Online, F1 World GP If anyone interested pls PM me, thanks! |

QUOTE(stevechan360 @ Jun 10 2007, 11:13 AM) Just bought a Shenmue and Shenmue 2 from PA last week, both JAP version. Whoa. Nice to know there are still some pureblood Dreamcast fans here. Welcome to my world! Regarding your issue with Shenmue, I don't think you can boot Japanese games on a US system with the Utopia disc. You either need to modify your console, or use a utility disc. I recommend Gameshark CDX for booting Japanese games. Once upon a time, I bought a Japanese copy of Virtua Figher 3. You know, because I'm such a huge VF nut. Long story short, I ended up with an unusable copy of VF3. Until I stumbled upon Gameshark CDX. Since then, I've started buying Japanese games whenever I get the chance.Because of my US ver. If any bro knows how to solve these problems, hope u can kindly let me know about it,thx Hi bro,how much are u going to sell ur HOD 2 and Zombie Revenge, and may i know hows the conditions of ur franchises? About the VGA box, I could be wrong, but this is a hardware compatibility issue. I assume your copy of Shenmue 2 and Power Stone 2 are Japanese, yes? Developers need to include VGA box support for individual games to make sure of compatibility. However, the code is dependent on the region of the console. If you were to run the aforementioned games on a Japanese console, it's certain to work correctly. Hope that helps. |

Hehehe. I just HAD to post this. Came back from work just now, the telly was on; I didn't bother with what it was on the telly, but my ears picked up something very distinct: the title music from Skies of Arcadia! Someone in TV3 must really like that game very much. You see? Dreamcast lives on!

I still have my DC with me in working order too, right next to my Saturn and Mega Drive.
As Borat said, Good Times. I was so looking forward to a new Panzel Dragoon game on the DC, but it turns out Orta went to the Xbox instead. If there is a Azel Panzel Dragoon/Saga 2, I will wet my pants. This post has been edited by XEN -v- gK: Jul 24 2007, 12:45 PM |

I just finished playing Under Defeat a few days ago on my DC, it's a good helicopter 3D shooting game. Sadly, that will be the last of those Naomi shooters on the DC as they have finally pulled the plug on this console.

At the last level's boss, I stupidly kept shooting the huge tank's armor without realising there is actually a trick to easily win destroy the tank if you watch the replays I guess the most fun level to play would be the second level, when you have to destroy the battleship. I just loved equipping the rocket launcher, let it loose on the small turrets and see your points accumulate skyhigh QUOTE(tripleB @ Aug 13 2007, 05:13 PM) gamemp3s.net released a torrent of the soundtrack a few months ago, if you're interested. |

Ikaruga is pure awesome. Probably the purest vertical shooter on the Dreamcast (or other consoles of the era). Dreamcast was home to the most number of arcade ports I've ever seen, excluding the Saturn. Any particular games that you have in mind? Try hitting me with one. I might have what you are looking for.

Yeah, that's another one right there. There were lot of arcade games developed on the SEGA NAOMI board, so their existence on Dreamcast was pretty much guaranteed. Border Down was horizontal shooter exclusive to Dreamcast, though I think the game is an acquired taste to many people.
