Plot
The story follows humans as they struggle to survive against the threat of the shapeshifting gigantic alien monsters called Gauna. The manga begins a thousand years after humans flee from Earth, which was supposedly destroyed by the Gauna, aboard massive spaceships created from the remains of the planet. The Gauna follow the emigration ships into space, forcing the humans to create large mechanized weapons called Guardians to protect themselves. Most people in the surviving human population are screened and drafted as Guardian pilots at a young age, if they are shown to be capable of piloting the mecha. The story focuses on one of such ships named Sidonia which has developed its own human culture closely based on that of Japan where human cloning, asexual reproduction and human engineering such as controlled hybrid human/animal mutations and human photosynthesis are commonplace.
The main character is Nagate Tanikaze, who lived in the underground layer of Sidonia since birth. Never having met anyone, he trains himself in an old Guardian pilot simulator every day, eventually mastering it. Later he ventures out and after being tested in a new simulator he is selected as a Guardian pilot, in hopes of defending Sidonia from the Gauna's attack using his incredible combat skills.

sweet at least ep 2 they show the scene mc got knockout after entering girl shower/photosynthesis room. Btw the fight scene on this episode quite short.

collaboration project with silver ant, as explained by them and polygon pictar at autodesk launch last wednesday. Pretty neat their explanation on how they categorize their 3D render framerate and those custom Slice Tool used for the monsters in the 3D anime

This anime is so good! I thought they looked bit weird at first but after ep1, I totally loved it!

the anime is doing very well, imho pacing it better than the manga. as someone who have read the manga, this anime gonna be really good. i actually rate the manga better than shingeki's manga lolx.

ps: this was published b4 shingeki but despite the similarity between both, both actually progress differently =)

Just done catching up to this anime....OH MY GOD!!!!

Looking great so far---from the godtier soundtrack, the action sequences and outer space setting.
And I actually love that it's using full 3D CGI for the animation, works alot better than blending 2D/3D ala Gonzo IMO.

to me, its because nagate felt that it was his own fault that the girl died, even if he complain/reveal/blame the guy, it wont bring the girl back.

thats why he said, my enemy is the gauna. Even if everyone hate him, he will still fight the gauna.

So manly. but really, this anime really trigger alot of emotion, more anger and hate

urgh i one day finish 8 episodes. It has been a while since I watch such a nice anime.

Yes. Silver Ant Studios, who are owned(?) or a subsidiary of Polgygon Pictures, the animators of SIDONIA. From what I gathered, Malaysian 3D animators deliver better results when paid the same amount of money as their Japanese counterparts.

What I'm saying is that there are cheap CG animators in Japan and Malaysia - but the for the same low price, Malaysian studios give better results.

here's what my unpatriotic biased towards this cuntry self would say: "wah Malaysians ah? no wonder the graphics look like shit. And isn't this chinese cartoons Japanese animation? why got Malaysians? sell outs. no soul!"

Malaysian saving anime. Thanks for the info, cant read japanese so i dont know which one to google. They still need to increase the fps though. Some scenes, mostly the one that involved panning can be to watch, but i understand, need bigger budget and such.

Still gotta give the Malaysian team credit for working well with Japanese animation lead staffers. It's a great start, imho. I wish more Malaysian studios receive outsourced anime work from Japan. It's the best way for our scene to grow financially and at the same time, learn from the best. This info came from one of the lead CG animators at Silver Ant, btw.

i dono why many didnt like the animation, I myself love the animation, it matches the manga art style. I didnt like mekaku city actors animation instead

you mean Shaft style? i also dont like the style,.i think mekakucity actor will work better for normal style, although monogatari series really good with Shaft style
