extremely disappointed in umobile

i've been using umi for 3months now and i use it mainly coz over here at hostel i need something decent to waste my time on and what i do most to waste my time is play games.

so far i've tried every prepaid plan and umi seems to have been the best for the past 3months.

p.s reason i use prepaid is so as to that i am able to not subscribe when I'm back home for the semester breaks which I did and resubscribed back this week after 3 weeks of break since I do have a 10mbps plan back home.

so this is where it goes bad (guess everything good has to come to an end)

my friend subscribed to a postpaid plan from umobile seeing the fact as to how i've been playing my online games so smoothly for the past 3months.

i was happy to recommend to him when he asked for my confirmation as to how the performance was.

So we got back to our uni this week and we've been using our respected broadband lines and you know what, my prepaid line has been sucking terribly. The dl speed and the upload speed has been, plainly to put it SHIT.

When I see my friend using his postpaid plan on the other hand is just totally different than mine.

Well tbh i don't really mind the horrible download speeds I'm getting but as long I do get constant uninterrupted internet speed is fine with me since I'm able to play my online games but even that has been such a bad experience.

I've tried over and over again even tried my friend's receiver (mifi) with my prepaid plan and the thing is the same.

The ping is horribly bad (300ms and at times up to 1000-3000ms) and i do get random disconnects for about 2-3sec which is a joy to deal with especially getting disconnected in games and reconnecting every minute.

Well this came to my conclusion, only after my friend has been using his postpaid has my prepaid line become so bad.

So i did my little test.

Each time I was playing a game I asked him to maybe load an img which consumed a lot of bandwidth or maybe a youtube video and voila my line spikes up and remains around 100-300ms ish. And when the postpaid line is not in use it's fine but not as good as it was.

I've tried playing games with his postpaid and it's basically what it was for me 3months back with my prepaid package .

So to put it short,

I am disheartened with the fact as to how the experience differs in using the umobile postpaid and prepaid.

I am paying for the umi package which is RM48 per month.

And my friend is using the postpaid (data only) package which is RM68 per month for 5GB of internet.

I did not know that if you were to take a prepaid line you would get a totally different treatment as to a postpaid user.

sry for the TLDR and for the typos since I am writing a quarter close to 2am and I'm going to sleep soon

Oh this is 'interesting'. I suggest to bring your complaint to U-Mobile and possibly follow that up with a complaint to MCMC if you're not satisfied with their response.

This did not use to be the case a year back, but I did realize within the past year that my prepaid internet ping gotten very bad till can't play games well. Before that no issue. I chalked it up to congestion, did not think there could have been a 2-tier system in place.

yes this was totally not the case for me a few months back this is why i have officially sent a complaint to umobile.

awaiting their response on this matter.

just to be clarified , did u mean

1. when ur fren using his postpaid broadband line "smoothly" , then u are having your prepaid UMI lines super duper sucks speed internet ?

2. u are getting back to very fast speed with ur umi plan at the same time IF your fren stop using its postpaid broadband ?

if 2. is applied, then what i can suggest is convert it into postpaid p50 with discount with me  tongue.gif
if 2 is not applied then u may consider to replace your sim card and ask them reset the line, just try to see if any difference, no harm to try

1. yeah the times when my friend is using his postpaid line my line randomly disconnects and the speed is not to as par to his. IDM if the speed as not to fast as long as it is not interrupted but that is not the case.

2. well i do get much better speed when he doesn't use his postpaid but there is still some hiccups here and there such as disconnects as i've mention above.

I'll wait for the response from a Umobile official as i've already sent an official complaint.

If it is truly the case that postpaid users get a much better experience when surfing the net then I might just consider changing to the postpaid plan.

Thank for your offer.
