Hi bro. I'm just newly invest as well. R u an active trader WHR u buy n sell frequently or u buy n only sell in few years time after considerable profit have been achieve?
*
I'm not an active trader at all - often I just buy then don't check for quite some time. Not looking to sell at present unless significant gains have been made as I'm holding for the long term and looking to diversify rather than sitting on cash.

I'm not heavily invested at the moment - less than 9.5% of my assets are in funds/equities.

Although looking to increase this a lot over time, especially the weak MYR hasn't been good to me recently shocking.gif

BTW guys rhbosk indo equity as well eastspring indo equity took a big loss this couple of month..drop ard 20-30% in nav value.... an y of u guys interested to go in on this unit and hope it will bounce strngly later?
*
I'm interested in Indonesia focussed funds too , performance has been pretty poor

But if you look at USDIDR / MYRIDR the IDR has lost a fair bit of value over the last year - but those 2 funds are MYR based so taking into account the currency drop ... fund performance hasn't been too bad just the IDR being cheap! :

user posted image

The JCI has lost less than 1% during this year. Cheap time to buy Indonesian stocks / funds, tempted blush.gif

good insight...i already bought eastpring indo equity fund rm2k on 18th....if it drops another 5% or more ill keep buying it in multiples of 2k... hope to see indo market rebound back in the coming months...
*
Lets see how it goes. I may add some and revisit in 3-4 months time to see what the situation is then with both the Indonesian market + currency.

Also considering a more "matured" fund - ie : 2]1]FOALL$$ALL_263&ClientFund=1&LanguageId=en-GB&CurrencyId=EUR&UniverseId=FOALL$$ALL_263&BaseCurrencyId=USD]This

Which is denominated in USD (as I have some USD to invest) This fund has been going since 1994 so there's also more history of past performance :

based on ur historical charts now is definitely the mega sale discount time to buy indo funds...  icon_idea.gif fingers crossed though and hope can profit in the long run with this scalping method...

I'll sit on the fence - the index has risen a lot in the last 5 years (difference between now and today 5 years ago is greater than 300%!)

But looking at currency history it's at a 5 year low against MYR so there may be some upside there too blush.gif either way, quite high risk (IMO, of course smile.gif)

Another option would be just to play the currency only (any banks in Malaysia offering IDR deposit accounts? sweat.gif )

for indo equity fund u late 4-5 days bro...if u enter last week...this week u should see >10% gain in a single week....regret i didnt top up when it went below my nav purchase for 2 days last week....but if u holding for longterm why not...

id suggest to keep on a lookout for thai equity trust though fsm msia dont sell it....the thai composite index has been hit hard with political turmoil....its going further on a downtrend until late february to early march when election is done...then it will get slowly better....if u have the guts u can try it... smile.gif
*
I also bought into Eastspring Indonesia, 5k , RM0.399 , today 0.42

JCI has gone up a bit and the IDR too

For Thailand I'm looking at the below - but through TD Ameritrade, not FSM.

cool Thailand election is on 2nd Feb bro... better take action now...if u bought i suggest scalping method...let say u go in 5k...buy 2k, 2k, 1k every other day dollar cost averaging in downward trend method...pls update me your result later in 3-4 weeks time from now...

Ah ok, I was looking at Bloomberg to check the price - didn't look at the date.

I'm not interested in selling up yet - going to keep an eye on the IDR and JCI.

Regarding Thailand , if I want to go in need to wait - this is a new account and takes a bit longer to fund with USD unfortunately (needs to be transferred to US)

Looking to buy some ETF / Mutual Funds soon - funded my TDAM account but not had much time to look into what to buy yet. At least charges there are a fair bit less overall (other than the initial transfer charge for funding..)

I'm trying to double up my invested amount from last year. Seeing at the current market don't look possible. Sigh! No catalyst to make market fall.
*
I'm also waiting for a good time to increase investments - topping up a bit here and there but am still too cash heavy (85%- although at least not all in one currency) am looking to reduce this to around 30% which still leaves a sufficient emergency fund.

I just read in The Edge weather expert predict theres a possibilty of an El-Nino occuring by June of this year....

El-Nino is known as a phenomenon to destroy homes, lives, crops(agriculture based commodity) and even halted mining(precious metal) due to bad weather...some effected parts will be in very humid weather while in some part there will be excessive rain to a point of flooding...

An El-Nino chain reaction would obviously disrupt supply of this commodity and cause the price to shoot up...

So...are u game enough to play food and metal based commodity fund this middle of the year bro?  brows.gif
*
Sounds like a bit of a gamble. Although I can see on my ETF list there's 30+ ETFs specialising in different food commodities - sugar, grains, livestock, cocoa, coffee, cotton, corn etc. rclxub.gif

Cocoa, Beef/Livestock, Wheat, Sugar, Cotton, Rice, gold, nickel, tin, copper are apparently the commodities where the supply can be affected by el nino. Pretty much all of these have ETFs available

Latest news:

Russian order military exercise of grand size with 150,000 troops around their west border nearing Crimea, Ukraine in sharp warning of potential war intervention...us john Kerry warns Russia aggressively any military invasion on Ukraine land would be a grave mistake.... Thank god I sell 67% of my global titans fund yesterday... Potential war tension would ruin European stock market....it is indeed a volatile month and we should be cautious of the development...

I'm not too concerned about the effects of Ukraine/Russia on Europe , if they do drop markets a bit it's a good time to top up - developed Europe is expensive at the moment drool.gif
