The then IPv6 routing isn't really efficient then, just like for Facebook and Yahoo. That's why streaming videos from Facebook isn't really smooth here.

Very few IPv6 websites in US can be connected via non-HE transit, sees only C&W, Cogent and Atrato (EU).

Can someone confirm Google Youtube streaming is under AIMS@raja chulan?

Google has their CDN within Malaysia. And it isn't located only in KL but other cities in Peninsular too like Penang and JB.

This is google peering data.
http://www.peeringdb.com/view.php?asn=15169

In Malaysia they uses AIMS to deliver local content.
I am wondering if this really the root cause of youtube slowdown.

Google peers directly with TM (you can do a traceroute), that link only states where in Malaysia Google peering point is located.

Well, TM and google do not have exactly a peering agreement, but more likely the latter has put a local CDN within the TM network.

So you are telling me that those other internet provider have peering policy with google thus they have no slowdown in youtube streaming?
While TM doesn't have one thus puting a local CDN and control all bandwidth of youtube streaming?

The CDN is put there by Google. Almost all other ISPs also do the same thing. If TM only peers with Google, TM will have to pay Google a lot of money because of unbalanced traffic direction.

So TM didn't pay to google?
Then how to explain slowdown in youtube? Is it the CDN peers by own TM?
Celcom Pay to google?

I don't think TM pays to Google, in fact I suspect is was the other way around.
The CDN servers are owned by Google. It works the way Netflix OpenConnect servers does. No peering, only CDN.

Then how come the youtube speed so slow.
It's clearly shown that the streaming had been throttled to 40-50kb/s.
The speed become normal at 1 am to 11 am
Google did that? Or TM?

Highly likely the problem lies with the CDN servers itself. Therefore Google problem.

If you access YouTube via IPv6, the speed seems to be OK. It is the IPv4 YouTube that has problems, where people has to refresh the Youtube page just to get good speed.

BTW, what CDN are you reported in.

http://redirector.c.youtube.com/report_mapping

Like mine:219.92.x.x tm-pen1

Any other TM user and streamyx user which would like to test the video download speed?

Video less than 10mins seems to work fine. (Load at full speed) 450kb/s
But not video over 10 mins which is 40kb/s

Can you try download this video with any internet downloader?
And report back the speed.
You may need to modify the name of it. Because it will show [videoplayback] rather than <title>.mp4

Turn off IPv6 for youtube.com domain, then do 'recycle your IP address ---> check redirector.c.youtube.com/report_mapping' until you get the CDN you want. IPv6 users will always get kul* CDN servers.

Working hard to traceroute the video. But no luck.

If you use Firefox + Greasemonkey + Download YouTube Videos as MP4 script, it is easy to do traceroute from the server where you download the video file.

Sometimes, its very hard to understand network.
Now i am connected to tm-pen1 and tm-pen2
And I have full download speed. 450kb/s to 300kb/s
Just now download with CDN tm-jhb and tm-kul also no full speed. 40-50kb/s only.
Continuing to investigate this matter.

Sometimes it can be good, other times bad. If you get low download speed from YouTube, look up what CDN you are using then recycle your PPPoE until you got a different one, then test the speed again.

Try YouTube streaming. See got any lag.
Try downloading the video if possible, since this give accurate reading of an video.

Alternatively, you can try download the video from this website with download accelerators or managers.
Then,report back the speed here.
(40-50kb/s = not normal, bad IP)
(Maximum speed of your internet= normal, Good IP)

Link: http://kissanime.com/

It uses google streaming server. (I don't know how they do it, but i am sure it is hosted via google server)

I SP can decide and manage their peering to Youtube
https://peering.google.com/about/faq.html

Here's how people got it fixed, they blocked the CDN and YouTube player will use other CDN.
I don't know what is our CDN IP, figure it out yourself.

i noticed that disabling DASH on youtube does fix the buffering/streaming issues..at least for my case.

tho you've to use 3rd party plugin, here

Haven't tried. But now I am under good Google CDN. I don't want to refresh my WAN IP again.
I will try when my WAN iP is refreshed.

To those whom are having this problem, not sure exactly what is the cause but disabling DASH as stated by GameSky seems to have a positive outcome

DASH = Dynamic Streaming Over HTTP.
It's supposed to give u just enough data flow to avoid any buffering.
Only just enough not to buffer, and also to save server or route bandwidth.

But it appears this feature doesnt operate as it should, causing the stream to be slow, and in the end buffers. If i not mistaken this feature is devoloped by Adobe and it's partners.

I'm using chrome and there's a way to turn it off.
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/y...niapiiifn?hl=en
Use this plugin, open up Extensions page, enter the settings page of Youtube Options.
Under Playback section, there is an option to disable DASH.

Do note that this software is a customization software, it will center your youtube video and make the page as minimal as possible. You can turn it off. You can also set many settings such as hardware acceleration, force HTML5, set it to load HD or any quality of your choice, force HTTPS etc...

Also, do note that if youtube changes their site code and settings, it may break certain functions of youtube when you use this plugin. A simple turning off from the Extensions page will do. Have been using this for nearly a year, the developer is responsible n quick, the fixes usually come within a day or 2.

As for the problem from my experience, it is due to DASH not behaving as it should. Turning it off solved the problem without the need to refresh the page. Not sure if TM's setting causing DASH to fail or DASH causing TM to fail.... notworthy.gif

Not sure whether is DASH fault.
Direct download video from google with download manager.
200mb max speed 40kb/s. (complete downloading need 1 and a half hour)
only from 1 a.m to 11a.m, Speed directly jump to 450kb/s. (which take 8-9 minutes to finish downloading)
I noticed this long enough since june 2013.

Complaint to TM. And they call back to me. Say want to come my house check copper wire. I say, its not my problem (my ADSL stats good), It's your TM fault. Other broadband provider (my preferred CELCOM) didn't suffer this kind of problem. They are like [tiada apa apa saja]. Obviously, they should forward this problem to the network manager, not those residential technician.

Later I will do a video comparision of the google CDN speed From 12.55am to 1.03 am

Hit them via Twitter at @TMConnects to get an answer , you'll be dealing with telekoms directly instead through their CS agents etc

If you guys have trouble with youtube streaming at 30KB/s cap before, i discovered click on address bar and hit enter to load the next page, the video will have a chance to switch to full speed when its being played. Not sure F5 refresh will work.

This is so far how i get around with those slow stream vids in the past month.

Great idea!

BTW, i am under good IP again. Hope that by complaining to the TMconnect twitter, the youtube cap speed will be abolished. It's not fair to cap people's youtube though who pay hell lot of $$ to the company..
