Google has their CDN within Malaysia. And it isn't located only in KL but other cities in Peninsular too like Penang and JB.TMnet & Youtube speed discussion

QUOTE(darrenliew96 @ Oct 27 2013, 09:15 AM) This is google peering data. Google peers directly with TM (you can do a traceroute), that link only states where in Malaysia Google peering point is located.http://www.peeringdb.com/view.php?asn=15169 In Malaysia they uses AIMS to deliver local content. I am wondering if this really the root cause of youtube slowdown. Well, TM and google do not have exactly a peering agreement, but more likely the latter has put a local CDN within the TM network. |

QUOTE(darrenliew96 @ Oct 27 2013, 09:34 AM) So you are telling me that those other internet provider have peering policy with google thus they have no slowdown in youtube streaming? The CDN is put there by Google. Almost all other ISPs also do the same thing. If TM only peers with Google, TM will have to pay Google a lot of money because of unbalanced traffic direction. While TM doesn't have one thus puting a local CDN and control all bandwidth of youtube streaming? |

QUOTE(darrenliew96 @ Oct 27 2013, 01:34 PM) So TM didn't pay to google? I don't think TM pays to Google, in fact I suspect is was the other way around. Then how to explain slowdown in youtube? Is it the CDN peers by own TM? Celcom Pay to google? The CDN servers are owned by Google. It works the way Netflix OpenConnect servers does. No peering, only CDN. |

QUOTE(darrenliew96 @ Oct 27 2013, 02:03 PM) Then how come the youtube speed so slow. Highly likely the problem lies with the CDN servers itself. Therefore Google problem. It's clearly shown that the streaming had been throttled to 40-50kb/s. The speed become normal at 1 am to 11 am Google did that? Or TM? |

QUOTE(Alpha Wolf @ Oct 27 2013, 03:26 PM) My youtube speeds are fine: If you access YouTube via IPv6, the speed seems to be OK. It is the IPv4 YouTube that has problems, where people has to refresh the Youtube page just to get good speed.CODE timestamp seconds 34.781 854x480, 0 average kbps, 100% volume TagStreamPlayer, HTTP, 4378 kbps 10 stage fps, 25 video fps, 1 dropped, 0 kbps accelerated video rendering, software video decoding NaN db, 1 audio factor |

Confirmed it is CDN problem.
Tested with the Kyoukai no Kanata video at http://youtu.be/L5eAWXiI4jA tm-kul10 ![]() tm-pen2 ![]() The tm-pen2 sure has problems. So now kul* CDN is good while pen* one has problems. This post has been edited by asellus: Oct 27 2013, 04:17 PM |

QUOTE(darrenliew96 @ Oct 27 2013, 04:34 PM) Just go here and download simply a video. If you use Firefox + Greasemonkey + Download YouTube Videos as MP4 script, it is easy to do traceroute from the server where you download the video file.Since this one uses google server. Working hard to traceroute the video. But no luck. http://kissanime.com/Anime/Kyoukai-no-Kanata |

QUOTE(powerwoot @ Oct 28 2013, 06:26 PM) btw this is result, 118.100.xx.xxx => tm-kul7 (118.100.0.0/18) Sometimes it can be good, other times bad. If you get low download speed from YouTube, look up what CDN you are using then recycle your PPPoE until you got a different one, then test the speed again.so what's good and bad about this? Thanks again. |
