Hi all,
Newbie here...
I would like to know about the income tax / any other deductions in salary.
Lets say my monthly salary 3k, what will be deducted from it?
Or is the tax only payable one lump sum to IRAS before end of April?
*
Normally singapore salary is deduct for CPF contribution which eligible for PR and citizen. Other than that, maybe some company got offer charity donation which allow you to make do income tax relief. This donation will be automatic deduct from your salary after you had agree with it during the offer letter signing.

Mid of April is the due date for IRAS filling. You doesn't need to pay at that time. Just wait until the notice of assessment mail it to you. You can opt for full payment or GIRO it monthly.

Anyway, this is what i know from my current and past working company.

I got over 10 years experience and holding MCITP + VCP5 professional cert. I do not have any degree.....
*
Hi,

With 10 years experience and Microsoft and VMware cert, i think 4k is just below average. Maybe the non degree holder is your drawback.

I'm also holding a network and infrastructure role in a financial firm.

Just my opinion.

*
Not a good position to advice you on salary range.

Just can tell my my salary is a bit higher than that amount but i only have ITIL and master degree holder with 2 years experience.

Yeah, 4k for first job in sg is consider good pay if you put aside other factor.

Just curious, how do you define good?

I am looking for one too, similar areas but have to move in by February.
*
Good can be many terms. I think convenience is the most important to those need to take public transport. Food court and convenient store also need to take into consideration.

True! I am taking all those into account when looking for one. Gosh, it sure is not easy to find a place to rent in SG!
*
All is because of the cunning agent. Most of them are in a gang, so who ever you engage, also the same. Maybe this is their survival tactic among hundreds of agent.

Hmm, is it really important to have WIFI in a room? I suspect Singtel and the other telecommunications provide portable dongles? What do you guys think?
*
Yes, all the 3 main telco, Singtel, Starhub and M1 provide broadband on mobile aka dongle. It's good that you able to rent a room which the owner or housemate got subscribe the home broadband, so you can save the cost to own the broadband on mobile.

If you know the house have broadband, try to negotiate for it. Price range is quite variable.

Not really. Mobile broadband using 3G/4G usb dongles or handphone tethering is so readily available these days, why would you even need to share the landlord's Internet connection?

And if the landlord has his media center and networked devices on the same wifi network, he will need to work out how to include you for internet connection sharing but exclude you for network sharing.
*
If they are new to Singapore, for sure the new contract is limited 2/3/4G data plan, so mobile tethering is out if heavy usage user.

As mention mobile broadband is an additional cost for a them who just come over and start work. Since the house is equip with broad, it's still open up to negotiate to share it like other home appliance. All is depend how the negotiation goes.

Anyway, no doubt owning yourself a mobile broadband is convenient as you move around.

So many people in SG, can they find out who is downloading who is not?  shocking.gif
*
Actually they can but the problem as you say, so many people in SG, almost 50% or more are downloading or streaming, it's they will catch all? As long as no people report, they are just close 1 eye.

Singaporean always say, "You can do anything, as long as not get caught!"

My mum holding a long term social visit pass also able to open POSB account.

No matter what 'P', open an account is possible. As long as you deposit the min amount require.

Too bad Citibank raise their limit to maintain normal saving account to $5000, if not, they are a good choice as they provide debit card and cheque book if i not mistaken. Close the account since they change their min amount policy.
