Can't you search for room to stay online first before going to sg? I don't know if it's feasible or not as I never tried it yet but planning to do so. I don't want to end up stranded there for weeks not being able to find a suitable/decent room and at the same time, I have to fork out SGD to support myself while being jobless and roomless.

Anybody knows if it's possible to rent short term in Sg? I've been scouting online and realize that most rooms have contract minimum 6 months. I'm not sure if I' m able to commit 6 months to that room since I can't guarantee if I am able to find myself a job in sg. So, if anybody here have any relatives or friends who have got an extra room or space and willing to rent short term to me in sg, please let me know. I don't have many requirements for the room just that it should be tidy and clean, that's the basics. smile.gif

Are you holding any work permit/ S pass or EP? Take note that the HDB owners are not allowed to rent out their room for someone who is holding password without valid working visa (EP, S pass etc)
You can stay in hostel for beg packers which normally charge 20sgd-30sgd per night for a person and you can go back to malaysia during weekend while hunting jobs in singapore.
However, you will need to share the room with some real travellers / tourists so you will need to sacrifice privacy during the job hunting period.
*
No I am not holding any WP, S pass or EP. I'm going there to look for a job. "Someone who is holding password..." What do you mean by password?

I've thought of backpackers as well but uh, I stayed before and had some bad experience so I don't think I'll be staying there again. Anywhere else besides backpackers...?

Go back to Malaysia during weekend? I don't think I can since I'm there to look for jobs. I can't afford to go back Msia every weekend. Once I go there I plan to stay for up to 30 days. But I'm not too sure if that's a good idea since officers will be asking why, right? So maybe I'll split to 15days + 15 days...or something like that.

Hey, if let's say I write in the white card that I am staying for 14 days (2 weeks) but I "overstayed" for 3 weeks instead, is that really counted as overstay? Will there be any penalty or will the officers come hunting me down? What will happen?

hoho..dont think you want to mess with immigration. They can be really nasty if you break the rules. You must follow the declaration and visa rules for stay period.

I am not sure what they will do but best not to find that out the wrong way. Better keep your records clean and apply for an extension. If things goes south they will not allow you to enter the country, nonetheless to work there.

To apply for EP pass you need to go through those immigration check for past visa violation declaration. If you have one bad record, they will probably wont approve your EP visa even if your employer is dam interested in hiring you.
*
How do I apply for extension? What if I overstayed by a few days instead of overstayed by a week? Do I still have to apply for extension?

By the way, is it possible for me to just pay and get a Singaporean mobile line/SIM card there without any working pass? I need to make calls when I am there..

I am not working for Singapore immigration but as far I know immigration will place a red flag on you when you had overstayed based on temporary stay visa. Once you exit the country they will check your visa validity. If you had overstayed, better be prepared for the worst such as interrogation.

I am not sure if you can apply for extension, better consult MOM regarding such matters. MOM contact:

I have experienced very strich immigration rules at Australia and assume Singapore is pretty much the same. I never try to overstay my visa validity period. Just be a good immigrant, there are plenty of jobs there. Just keep trying.

Mobile SIM is very easy to get, just go to any mobile phone shops/SIM card vendors and show your passport. The seller will scan your passport details to the company for registration. Top up is easy as well.

Dont worry about SIM, just check for a method of staying at Singapore for long period or reapply your visa if needed.

I think there was a similiar query regarding this visa stay stuff in the previous post. I remember reading it somewhere.

Haha yes I know you're not working for Singapore immigration but they'll be lucky to have you work for them because you're so patient in explaining things. Thanks for the link and for the infos.

Yes, it's better to be safe and not overstay but I'm asking just in case suddenly smth crop up when I am about to go back (e.g last minute got call for interview) so if this happen I know what to do and will go apply for extension even if it is just for a day.

I'm not sure which mobile line or plan (prepaid or postpaid?) to sign up with. I'll be going to sg for about a month and then returning to malaysia after that so I'm planning to keep that number for awhile when I'm in Malaysia to receive calls from sg.

Just wondering what are the job prospects of being a recruitment consultant? Would it be a good idea if I started out without any experience in this field? Where would it lead me?

Just applied to around 50 companies in Singapore. 2 weeks have passed, no reply at all..

I'm an engineering fresh grad. Is it really that hard to get a job in Singapore now? I thought the Fair Consideration Framework will only be implemented starting August 2014..

How long should I continue waiting before I should give up and start applying job in Malaysia?

Or anyone got any lobang for a Materials & Manufacturing Engineering fresh grad?? biggrin.gif

Any advice will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have thought of that but I don't think it's possible since I'm planning to go sg next week (for about 2 weeks) to give it one final try. Hopefully, being physically there will help boost my chances of landing in a job. smile.gif

I've got a question here. Can sg employers/recruiters find out my employment history in msia when they do a background check?

You have to state your experience during an interview. If you wish to conceal some work experience it is possible, but dont add too much that people can smell the bullshit covered up. They usually know how good you are when they interview you. A lot of questions to test your knowledge and experience.

Usually your SG employer will ask for referee but lets be honest here, HR will not give a dam to call your referee. As far I know they never called mine. Unless it is really high paying job or important role in the company.

Anything within graduate to managers, they wont be bothered to call your previous company.
*
I'm not trying to add anything but trying to conceal instead, because I've worked for a few months and those few months really don't add up to much of a working experience. So when asked if I have any working experience, I prefer to come clean, as a fresher, less hassle and lesser questions.

But I'm afraid if they can find out that I've worked a few months. If that is so, then I'll tell the truth that I've worked for a few months.

Ok, so I just found out that 12% of my pay will be deducted for this thingy called MVC - will I get that 12% back? If so, how and when do I get it back? And my offer letter never state in black and white what are the allowances/benefits that I will be getting, I was just briefly told through the phone. Is this a norm?

Not that I know of. Always ask for receipt for such case when you are not sure. Now you don't have proof to complain to the cab company or LTA. Cab driver charge me 5 dollar surcharge from my house to Changi at non-peak hour. Asked for receipt then he say never mind about the surcharge. Sneaky.
*
Ya that taxi driver who drove me asked me to pay $10 on top of the metered fair which was already $15 plus. He complained and say no taxi driver want to go and pick passengers up from Woodlands checkpoint coz so far and always jam etc. etc. then he say that's why there's $10 surcharge. He knows I'm new to this place coz he asked me which way to take and I told him I was new so I don't know which way to take. Luckily I wasn't silly enough to believe I had to pay this $10 surcharge shakehead.gif

last time got one construction company say your working experience will be irrelevant due to different working culture...
Therefore, they will give u fresh graduate salary...

Wow, that must be the worst BS excuse I had ever heard...
*
Hmm, I have heard of cases like this happen in Australia. Not sure about Sg. Don't be fooled by some HR tho. They can say any bs if they want to pay you low. I've been told before by some HR that their company (MNC btw) pay according to CGPA results for fresh grad. So if it's high CGPA, get high salary..if get a lower CGPA then you get paid lower. I don't think there's such a thing as I believe they have a fixed salary scale for certain positions. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Some of the more ridiculous reasons given by HR in SG to supress your pay is "Oh you're malaysian? That means you can take a lower salary since SGD1=RM2.6 therefore its still a gain to you even if we pay you 30% below market rate"....
*
Wah siao ah...I thought HR have to pay according to the wage range given by MOM. Mana boleh anyhow just make up their own rule like this? shocking.gif
