Not allowed by law.

Just for reference, I'm currently renting my 3room flat for 2.2k.

Thnkas for the reply. May I know what is Online Notification Letter? I don have it with me and  I was told that I need to present that while collecting my employment pass at immigration office. Who can i get the letter from?
*

Your employer.
Since they are the one applying for you...they should have the IPA.
You should request it to be sent to you.

HI everyone. Page the 1st page it says we can be in singapore 60 out of every 90 days. So if i entered singapore on  1/1, i could stay 60 days from 1/1-31/3, then it "renews" on 1/4, right?
*

it means for every past 90 days, you are only allowed to be in sg for 60 days
if say u enter on 1/1 and left on 7/1 then came back on 7/2 and stayed until 31/3
when april comes, you can only stay for 1 week
PS: this is just a rough estimation..for more accurate calculation...use the calendar or see what the immigration officer tells u when u "re-enter"

guys.. i m going down sg to work soon nxt week..
my current company hold back my final pay to do tax clearance.. what exactly I have to do about the tax clearance thing?

whenever they issue the form I am already in sg.. and the how about the tax relief that I am supposed to file in next year?
*
if your employer is withholding your last pay...that means they have informed LHDN that u are leaving the country.
they will issue a form to you...CP21 or something like that together with your last pay
it looks exactly like an EA form.
u have 2 ways to settle your income tax for 2013 now.
1. Do your income tax filing like what you do normally and submit the borang B or BE with the CP21 (i forgot the month...LOL)
2. When you receive your CP21...go to LHDN office, and get the form and submit manually.
I recommend the first method...which my wife and I both did 2 years ago.

Now that we have established that IPA can be used to open an account and for accommodation purposes, I have another question.  blush.gif

1) Say I want to collect my EP using my IPA and other documents but I haven't yet found a place to stay in SG. Will MOM refuse to issue me the EP until an accommodation is found?

2) In addition, say again I do not have a physical address in SG but I want to open a bank account first. Will the bank allow for that and use my Malaysian address or will they just refuse to open an account for me until I obtain a place to stay in SG?
*

1. ur address will be set to the company address
2. not sure...cause u need to provide proof of residence if not mistaken.

well, they can alwiz issue a cheque for first month

Good choice to raise the kids here for safety and education. But you need to sacrifice not seeing them often next time. Your kids won't want to go back Malaysia with you one. I am one of the kids half raised in SG, degree onwards but spent most my secondary school holidays here. Already felt so unfamiliar with MY after I graduate 4 years later. Your SG fully raised kids... MY only a holiday place to them when you bring them back during school holidays. My sis who study JC here hate this place though.

No free lunch one SG gahmen, you want rip the housing subsidy and baby bonus, they ripper you back later. If son he need to do 2 years NS and 10 years reservist. If financially affordable, give him the choice to decide later when he grow up. But if you really need the citizen subsidies then by all means.

I plan to change a sum of money for CNY. Any money changer in SG that offer good rate?
*

How large of a sum are u referring?
For every difference of 0.01 in the exchange rate with you changing SGD1k, it is only RM10.
Do you think it is worth the time and cost travelling around the island for that amount?
I recommend that you go checkout the money changers around you and see which one offer you better rates.
I know the money changer inside causeway point has very pathetic rates though... laugh.gif laugh.gif

20% increment means she'll be paid in whatever currency, the equivalent of 120% of her current S$ salary? Then add another S$500 housing allowance?
- yes that's correct. Her net salary is then 120% in the current local currency equivalent (notwithstanding any future Renminbi dollar weakness!), but on a side note, i believe her pay will then be pretty much higher than a locally hired person,- so we're thinking not to push this further.
i may be wrong about this
but the tax in china is 25%
if that is true...your 20% increment will be wiped out by tax, unless you are already being taxed 20+% now in sg

Hello, could you guys give me a few opinions about this? According to the MOM, we can collect the EP 4 days after fingerprinting and registration.

If I had my fingerprinting and registration done on Tuesday, when can I collect the EP?

Does after 4 working days mean the Monday or Tuesday of the following week?  rclxub.gif Or is Saturday a working day in Singapore as well?

I am leaving Singapore immediately after I had my registration done so any replies would be most insightful in helping me plan my next steps.  smile.gif
*

you can still exit SG after doing your fingerprinting and before getting your card
imagine those who stay in jb how? book hotel for 4 days?
however, do note that u need to get your card within 2 weeks or 1 month or 2 months (forgot) or they will destroy it.

u need to take an exam in sg,they will issue u a letter, then u proceed to jpj for the cancellation of malaysia license.Once done, proceed back to sg and process for the sg license..
most probably gv jpj some ''duit kopi'' to ask them dont cancel ur malaysia license
*

sg side will not issue u any letter
u just go to JPJ and request for a license extract..even before u register/take your BTT
whether JPJ blacklist you or not is up to them...legally they are supposed to.

I just received my driving license.

You can first go book basic theory test from the driving center (usually waiting time abt 3-4 months). Then go JPJ to get your extract (extract cannot be more than 6 months when you apply for conversion). At JPJ you need to fill up form and state reason why you want the extract. If you state that you want to convert to Sg license, they will punch a hole in your Msia license making it invalid.
After you pass you BTT,  you can apply for Sg license conversion.
*

so if u drive to jpj...u will be stranded there? cause u got no license to drive home sweat.gif sweat.gif
You do not even need to be present to get the extract...it can be done on behalf.
my dad got the extract for me end of last year and posted it to me without me being in JPJ

hi guys, wanna ask some sifu here about how to find job/interview in singapore from malaysia.

1. do u guys applied online jobstreet/jobdb.etc and travel to singapore for interview?? where do u guys stay then? travel by bus or plane?

2. or just go to singapore 1st, then start looking for job on newspaper and online? what if u cant get a job in 30days, u cant stay longer than that right? and again where do u guys stay then?

3. as a IT fresh grad and finishing my last subject very soon, any suggestions whether i should get experience in msia or try my luck to apply junior/'fresh grad'/'no experience needed' job in singapore? i believe i do have some advantages compared to any other IT fresh grad since i've done some projects during my fyp and internship. P/S* my convocation is held in 2 months later, i was thinking to work in msia for at least 2 months, and after my convocation i will start planning again. any thoughts?
*

1. apply thru job portals or direct thru company. try to request for a telephone interview or probably skype, but most will require u to travel down once for a face to face. you can either go bunking wif friends or hostel or at relative's place. mode of transportation is up to you and where u are. impossible those from east m'sia can travel by bus. doh.gif doh.gif

2. if u have the bling to survive here with no income, no harm. u can stay for 60 days then barred from entering for 30 days.

3. no harm trying right? just set a "deadline" for when ur trying will have to end.

Guys, what's best FD/etc for rainy day funds? From what I can see, seems like boils down to SCB bonu$aver vs CIMB regular FD

SCB https://www.sc.com/sg/save/current-bonussaver.html
1.88% on $25k
- need to spend $500 per month on credit card (easy enough)

CIMB http://www.cimbbank.com.sg/index.php?tpt=cimb_sg&tpl=sgdfd
1.1% on 1 year FD
*

if u got 10k la.

Wah kaoz this one damn complicated, lol. Read once still don't exactly understand all the t&c.
Well not really 'rainy day' but more like 'emergency i need money now' pool.
http://www.cimbbank.com.sg/index.php?ch=sg...er_st_cur&ac=12 ... seems to have changed to $500/month now. Which anyway isn't a problem. Slight concern on branch location since I work east stay east. Lemme think about it, thanks!

To enjoy the privileges of CIMB Preferred, you have to establish a banking relationship with us, worth a minimum of S$250,000 in deposits, investment and/or insurance.
We may also extend invitation, at our discretion, to selected customers based on other qualifying criteria.

QUOTE(xtylish @ Feb 20 2014, 10:39 AM)
Singapore has charged 22 Indian National, including a woman, with providing false salary information to obtain their work permits, the manpower ministry said on Wednesday.

The 10 people from a group of 22 Indian nationals faces up to seven weeks in jail after they pleaded guilty on Tuesday. They would also be permanently banned from working in the city state.

For the remaining 12, one would go for pre-trial on February 28 while 11 others have sought an adjournment for their cases.

The group of 21 males and 1 woman, aged between 24 and 39, had made false statements to the Controller of Work Passes between November 2010 and September 2013 in connection with the applications for 19 Employment Passes (EPs) and three S Passes (SPs). They were employed by four separate companies.

The Ministry stressed that applicants for EPs or SPs must meet the minimum salary requirement. However, the accused persons knew that their employers would pay them less than the amounts declared, it said.

The Ministry said it would separately take action against the employers and the employment agents involved.

Offenders face fine up to 20,000 Singapore dollars and/or imprisoned up to two years for having made false declaration under the Employment of Foreign Manpower Act.

does it apply to me as well? salary below 2k but s pass?
*

If the amount in your IPA matches the amount you are being paid, then no problem.
The salary guideline for the pass category is just a draft guideline and not the final point for consideration.
