its a good and powerful card, but bottlenecked by the stock cooler
and so far, there are no custom cooling solutions in the market atm
i suggest waiting for custom coolers before making the plunge
Actually it is depends on individual, if u able to accept the fan sound then i will said no thermal issue, i play Call of Duty Ghost/Battlefield 4 for few hours the temperature is around 70-75 degree but of cause to maintain this temperature the fan speed must be keep at 70%, & at this speed the fan is very loud.
just reach home and check asic. i am getting 69.6% on this sapphire 7950 flex oc. shit
That is very normal, pls bear in mind that the ASIC score will not affect the graphic card performance at stock speed. ASIC score normally will be used as indication for overclock the graphic card with voltage adjustment, but it is not necessary accurate
from experience, >60% for reference cooling is considered uncomfortable already
also, how did ya get 70-75C during COD Ghosts? im always at a constant 79-80C at 60% fan speed
Fortunately the fan didn't produced those high pitch sound otherwise it will be very irritating. This is how i set the fan curve, maybe u should try to set the fan speed at 70% see whether your 780 temperature drop to 70
i am oc my gpu. from clock 925 mhz memory 1250mhz to clock 1150 mhz memory 1300 mhz. right now google on how to get better asic quality.
I think u misunderstand ASIC score, it is not the performance benchmark, therefore no way u can improvement the ASIC score.
i read your previous posts, u are complaining your 7950's performance low, maybe u can run some benchmarking software eg 3dmark, 3dmark11, Valley benchmark or Heaven benchmark with stock clock & compared the score by google online otherwise how u determined your card is low performance?
I have one reaching within this week I reckon. With the optional fan brackets for third party 92mm fans, as I suspect might need something with higher static pressure for air to reach those VRMs.
Actually, I am rather worried of board flex, considering the heatsink + quality 92mm fans can reach about 700g (heatsink itself is around 450g, 92mm fans can weight anywhere from 100g to 150g each), plus 92mm fans' dBA/CFM efficiency is not as good as what 120mm fans offer. Coming up with alternative ideas, though, rather, costly. Urgh.
Waiting for your review, i might want to get also, already bought the copper ram sinks
I'll try to work on a review of the Gelid in stock form when it reaches. But no promises though, as I was planning to stretch things out until I sort out my other parts (x2 Corsair AF140, x2 SP120, x2 AF120, x2 packs of Enzotech mosfet heatsinks, Fujipoly thermalpads/Akasa thermaltape).
I think I am overspending.
Actually i'm still struggling which solution i should go,
1. Gelid Icy Vision Rev2 (Cheapest solution, but the fan is not PWM type) 2. Arctic Accelero Xtreme III 3. NZXT Kraken G10 with AIO water cooling (More expensive solution)
Step 2: Get a compatible AIO water cooler, and some ram/mosfet heatsinks.
Step 3: Get a PCI fan bracket holder for x2 120mm which should cool down the VRAM and VRM nicely. I've done some counting and I reckon I can have something set up circa RM350 (but that's because I know where to get an Antec Kuhler 620 for cheap). Thing is you'd need a free PCI fan bracket for the VRMs. A lot of coolers miss out the VRMs close to the display-out of the R9 290(x). I think the Gelid is a very good buy. I just need to find out for myself if those stock fans can indeed properly bring enough airflow to the VRMs, I know they're rated at 125C but still........
Are you talking about this PCI fan bracket?
Mind to PM me where can get Antec Kuhler 620 cheaper?
Installed the Gelid cooler on my R9 290. Did a quick run on Kombuster and indeed saw the VRM1 temps hitting nearly 100C.
Core and VRM2 are fine though. Suspect not enough airflow going to VRM1, either that or the heatsinks for them are too small.
More pictures later.
These few days keep reading oversea forums above the review for Delid and Arctic, it seem like it is correct as what u said, oversea users also facing these issue. I almost place order for Arctic but now look like have to hold
my rig consists of asus r9 290, but i already confirm cm gx650 wiv the shop as he has no other psu stock. has anyone tried this kind of psu with r9 290 before? is it really will damage my gpu in long run?
I believe nobody can give u a definate answer, generally cm gx650 is not the reliable psu, the new V series is much better as they are made by seasonic.
yup i know.. erm, may i know what will the consequence be if the psu is not reliable? will it damage my mobo and gpu? cause r9 290 is expensive, so i don want it to be spoilt
Honestly im not sure how it will be, but why not u ask the shop to exclude the psu and u can buy other brand in other shop, install the psu is not that difficult
Desprado is a well known passionate Nvidia advocate here, just check back his posts and you'll realise that.
The R9 290 is perfectly fine, delivers a lot of performance for a low price. Myself is a user, and llk is, as well. Only "problem" I find with it is the stock cooler being noisy when you ramp it up to beyond 50%, but that's really about it.
Oit so what's your decision - Planning to get the Gelid? I'm going to finalise my PC cooling purchases in another two weeks, then I'd be done with my PC setup liao.
Will on hold the project first as i'm changing my PSU next week, budget bit tight
ya' know that's really makes me itchy... but... but... sold my old setup to my friend today so I don't have gc now... have to get 280x today
don't know how high that custom 290 will be priced here anyway.
Checked the Sapphire custom R9 290's PCB layout exactly same as reference card, if can get the Sapphire 3 fans cooler installed on the reference card i believe the result will be good too.
