patients my friend smile.gif

I think the official KK for N4 might involve radio updates as well, as happens in the past. Compiling KK looks easy, many KK ROMs already available, but we are not sure yet on the radio, and official LTE as well, maybe not for our region though.

snapdragon 800 has the always on chip to detect the "ok google", so that might make the google experience exclusive for N5. so, full KK experience really depends on the hardware it's running as well, not similar for all.
*
Snapdragon 800 has always on chipset? Never heard that before. Any source to read on that?

Btw, Nexus 5 doesn't listen while it's sleeping unlike Moto X which has a dedicated co-processor that handles all the sensors in its X8 chipset. Nexus 5 only listens when the screen is on according to what I read on some reviews.

Plausible but it's more likely Qualcomm have something with the delay.

I wonder whether block updating method need the system to be updated before it can be implemented or it worls with existing system?
S800 doesn't have dedicated voice processing core like Moto's X8 but the energy efficient Krait 400 cores enables the somewhat moderate always on voice recognition.
The voice recognition from homescreen is part of "Google Experience" launcher. Nexus 5 might be capable of Moto X's always on voice like trick but I think the battery life will suffer because of it.
*
Ya... That's what I think...

Having a low power co-processor like Motorola X8 or Apple M7 (for a different purpose though) is good because it prevents the main processor from getting involved when only minor processing needed (ie. When the phone is asleep). Besides always on speech recognition, I believe the co-processor in X8 also handles the active display so the display will light up when a notification comes in, without engaging the main processor.

However, I don't think S800 has a dedicated core to achieve these features without a hit in the battery life. Who knows? biggrin.gif Maybe it can be scaled to run a lowest frequency with 3 out of 4 cores going into deep sleep? hmm.gif

Its all about business. U think Google is not greedy like apple? If they dun make some feature exclusive only for n5, ppl won't upgrade. Just like when apple came out siri on iphone, it was only exclusive for that iPhone generation.
*
Erm... This makes sense but... I think the price-to-performance ratio alone can drives many ppl to upgrade willingly biggrin.gif

Just found that the Beta version of Nova Launcher transparent NavBar is not supported for Nexus 4. sweat.gif

It works only on KitKat. You can't see the option if you're not on KK.

Sorry for asking this - i know many had asked. Is there a way to sideload KitKat without losing my data - needs to unlock bootloader rite? Would the bootloader lock back after finishing sideloading KitKat.

Many thanks in advance.
Btw,
Still on stock 4.3.
*
Need to unlock bootloader which means data will be completely wiped. You can try to backup using Helium. Helium can backup even without root. Otherwise it's impossible.

Anyone enable ART runtime? Smooth and silky. thumbup.gif

His bootloader should be locked. So your answer doesn't help biggrin.gif

Another thing that give me a pleasant surprise... for those who use Terminal / adb a lot will be delighted to know the shell now support auto completion! Thanks heaven!

I am curious, Nexus 4 with stock ROM + Kernel already pretty smooth and stable, what is the advantages (beside more features and customization) to flash custom ROM + kernel ?
*
There's something beyond the smoothness and stability.

Custom ROM basically is like a ROM used by those phones with Manufacturer modified ROM such as Samsung Touch Wiz and HTC Sense.

Common features in Custom ROM are... Custom Quick Settings. Stock Google quick settings are limited and is sort of "illogical" for its operation (eg: Tapping on the WiFi button brings you to the menu). In custom ROM, this is changed by toggling the wifi when you Tap it once and opening the menu when you press and hold at the icon which makes more sense. Other than that still ok la almost same with stock rom biggrin.gif

Stock. Since flashed to KRT16S, I relocked the bootloader and haven't root.

Need to root first to flash is it?
*
Why do you relock your bootloader doh.gif

Then you have to go through unlocking bootloader process again to root it. Means you'll lose your data once again.

newbie here, just got my phone a few weeks back...was curious when will be the kit kat update available?
*
It's already here. But it depends on "luck" or "probability". Rolled out batch-by-batch. At first, it's just 1%. Means when you check for update, you have 1% chance of getting. Then next batch maybe 5, 10, 25, 50 etc...

So if you haven't get, means you no luck. Find some luck biggrin.gif

Don't know what the fuss is all about SOT? Many do not even know when the SOT is recalibrated. If you continously recharge the phone true out the day without fully charging it the SOT will not reset, so how accurate and your claim of SOT is?
*
I believe that "Many" you referring to doesn't include cowithgun

He knows android very well. Released ROMs and Kernels for Galaxy W. Then he tweaked the Nexus 4 kernel for his personal use. I don't think it's 7 hours. Should be 6 hours something on his Nexus 4.

His claim is 100% trustworthy. Don't mess with him biggrin.gif

it depends. first, n5 has 2300mAh vs n4 has 2100mAh. naturally, it is 9% better. secondly, the Snapdragon 800's sensor cores help to offload CPU.

in theory, you should see noticeable improvement in battery if you phone is mostly low usage. ie: talk time benchmark:

n4: 14:17
n5: 16:40

but in full power usage, where all 4 cores will be used, little difference. ie: gaming, browsing:

n4: 4:34
n5: 4:46

in mix usage, you should still see improvement. but far better? i prefer the term incremental improvement.

Seriously... It makes me wonder... Whether is all other manufacturer too good at managing battery/power management or is Google too bad at it? No optimization at all??

Nexus 4 has 2100 mAh (Erm... Same as S3???) Nexus 5 has even bigger, at 2300 mAh. But looking at gsmarena's battery test, just as benchmark... S3 is better than both Nexus 4 and Nexus 5, losing out only in talk time.

Endurance rating, S3 50 hours N4 32 hours N5 40 hours despite bigger battery.

Sometimes... It just make me think that Google never care about optimization for battery. Same battery capacity, both running on Android and Google is the core of android yet getting outperformed in this particular sector.

Maybe next iteration of Android, they emphasize on this? Hope so drool.gif

That's the nature of the app. I think there's an xposes module supporting that. You should go through the list of xposed modules to see if there's one. I can't remember smile.gif
