TS said he gonna use flash, so i dont see much issue there, off course better gear will help, but then, he didnt ask if his gear enough, he is asking how to shoot with his gear.
To me, TS, if you intend to cover the event, boring shot eg, registration, speech by VIP, food time, little chatter and prize presentation etc, your gear with flash should be ok, just add in a few bread and butter shot of player / vip / bosses / rolling the ball.
fast shutter may help. I would rather u have some shot with high iso + noise then no shot at all.
Off course, if the event at those dark and music pumping bowling alley then.. god bless you. No way can shoot.
+1 using shutter priority is favoured here, else the action mode on the dial will have to suffice, High ISO is a must with no flash, you could get away with 1/150 on ISO 1600 IMHO, just go there earlier to see the venue and lighting to get an idea, take that chance to decide on the best settingTo me, TS, if you intend to cover the event, boring shot eg, registration, speech by VIP, food time, little chatter and prize presentation etc, your gear with flash should be ok, just add in a few bread and butter shot of player / vip / bosses / rolling the ball.
